Brenda Starrr
I was supposed to go to school today from 11 to 7. That all changed last night when I found a hard, pea-sized lump in my right breast. My grandmother died from breast cancer 10 years ago. I can't fool around with this at all. I see the doctor today at 2. I called out from school, which may or may not piss off my boss and my trainer. I was vague about the message I left, as I don't want to go into it until I know more. I know that I've asked this before, but if you would, pray to whomever you pray to for me. I'd be very grateful.
Nienna
You're in my thoughts... If it makes you feel better alot of the time they are benign cysts. I had a similar experience several years ago and I just had to have it drianed... Good luck. Try not to get too freaked until you find out more. Brenda Starrr
Believe me, I'm really trying my hardest not to be freaked about this. It's so hard, though. I'm about as far from being a hypochondriac that you can be. I won't even take Tylenol unless I absolutely have to. I hope that it's nothing, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to get a mammogram and whatever testing that goes with it. I don't look forward to the mammogram, though. I want to know how they're going to take such a small breast and smash it between 2 plates to see what's in there. I think a man may have invented that machine.... Ginevra
I've had my breasts examined before and trust me, they can use that mammogram machine with great skill. Nienna is correct. Try not to freak yourself out oversomething that's probably nothing. Some variations in the breasts is quite normal as we age.
Onyx
I know it's unpleasant to contemplate surgery, but I've been through it several times, fortunately all benign. The mammogram wasn't as bad as I expected either. If they want to biopsy, do not let them go schedule you for an old style biopsy with the large incision until you are sure you cannot have it done by Mammotome. I wish all of mine had been done this way - then I would not be all scarred up and wouldn't have had to go through all that pain. It's a tiny incision the size of a match-head and MUCH less painful. I can barely find the scar now. http://www.breastbiopsy.com/mammotome.jsp Plus another thing I found out -- Biopsies done the old way make mammograms difficult to read and can actually make it impossible to see a dangerous lump, so it's worth driving to get to a mammotome place if you have to. I know how scary it is. My grandmother and mom both had breast cancer so I'm more at risk too.

Brenda Starrr
I will try my hardest to remember asking about Mammotome. Thank you so much for the advice and all of the good vibes.
Brenda Starrr
I just got back from my doctor appointment. He found it as well, and I get to go get a mammogram and an ultrasound. Yay. Let's just smash my little boobies between 2 glass plates. Breast of Brenda on glass, please.........
fallennon
Both my grandmother and my aunt had breast cancer in their twenties some years ago. After a lumpectomy they were and are both cancer free and have been fine for years. You are in my thoughts and prayers sweetie! I hope for the best! The_Dark
Just so you know... Yeah, a man did invent the mamogram. Oddly, when I worked at the hospital in Lansing I saw a mamogram being done on a woman with rather small breasts. Let me just apoligize now for what ever man thought of that.... Your in my thoughts and prayers... it's small and it's early.. things will turn out just fine.
Brenda Starrr
TD, you don't know what it means to me to hear that. I'm actually choked up. My husband thinks that all of you are being so sweet and caring. It will be an honour to meet each and every one of you when I come up to see you all in May. SomeDanGuy
Yeah, the worst part is right now - the waiting and wondering with no information to go on. Chances are, it's probably benign. I think something like 80% of lumps biopsied turn out to be nothing dangerous. And even if not, it sounds pretty small so it should be no problem. My mom had the same thing happen to her this year, so I know it's a scary time. (Turned out to be nothing) My thoughts are with you.
Nienna
The worst part about the mammogram was that it was COLD for me... The tech was very comforting and nice though and I hear it's usually the case. I agree with TD though. The waiting almost killed me. Just try not to think about it. and be grateful you are one of those women who checks herself out.

Brenda Starrr
It's a cyst. Thank God. However, that man-made motherf*cker of a contraption made my boobs really sore. I'll take the soreness over what could have been any day. Thank you all for being so cool.
