Question for all regarding Diesel

Recommended Posts

So I spoke with the manager the other night and she wants me to dj at Diesel. I've heard a lot of complaints lately on all the forums about this club and that and the music thats being played. If I decide to spin at Diesel, are there any suggestions on what people would like to hear played at Diesel? Im very surprised that I havent seen many people there. It's a cool club with a lot of atmosphere. I hear people bash CC all the time yet still people go out there. I suppose because of the number of people that go out to CC. And people have complained that Necto is tough because of the night being on Monday and I havent seen much about Luna.

diesel is 18+

two bars with cheap drinks that are not watered down

a very cool staff which I havent seen anywhere else

couches, beds, comfy places to lounge around if you just wanna watch or get naughty

clean bathrooms

a cool rotating dance floor with a nice lighting system and the sound system is decent

safe parking and a restaraunt across the street if you need to sober up

and of course the CASP events are very cool!

So any feedback would be great! The Lab obviosuly isnt ever gonna be the same again but this place could really rock! Ok sorry so long but Ive been around Detroit for a few years and all and this is by far the coolest club Ive seen.

have a day!

That website needs some work...it offers little to no details on the club

Here is what I know:

Formerly the Jag Nightclub (across from the Clock Diner on Campeau), you know the old leopard print place that the Albanians used to hang out at...

Ambience is great (allegedly) but it was a little slow when it first opened. Has great potential and worth checking out.

:blink

Oh! *THAT* leopard print place where Albanians used to hang out....

Erm... actually I don't know where any of those landmarks are and I wouldn't know an Albanian if I happened to see one.

Does anyone have a street address?

It's on Jos Campau...  Somewhere.  Helpful aren't I?  :laughing

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I feel like I'm back in Tennesee! "Well, you go half a mile down the road where the old general store used to be .. "

Maybe if someone could post a photo of an Albanian and the leopard print building I could spot it?

:doh

A "glitzy" club will never wean me away from City Club because sometimes, a club tries too damned hard. I've been to Mephisto's once and didn't like it 'cause I felt like a lot of the atmosphere was insincere.

Jon and I are willing to check out Diesel, as we would like an alternative to CC. But it has to be down-to-earth. Not saying you should cater to us - just that that's the thing that brings us back to CC as opposed to a "cleaner" club.

We can't do weeknights. I don't know how many people can on a regular basis. So we're willing to try it on a Friday night, for sure.

How much is cover? $4.00 each - $8.00 for us, a couple - is very doable, leaving $$ for drinks & a bite to eat afterwards. Mephisto's cover is quite a deterrent. If cover is better at Diesel, great. See you there.

Music: Jon and I like all the crap people complain about at CC. Apoptygma Berzerk. Beborn Beton. Wolfsheim. Wumpscut. KMFDM. VNV Nation. Iris. Covenant. That's what we like to dance to.

As far as sitting around bullshitting with friends and listening to music, rather than wanting to dance, old school all the way - Sisters of Mercy. Siouxsie. Bauhaus. Cure. Keep it darkwave, and we'll be happy happy.

We honestly would like an alternative to CC for when we're just not in a CC mood. But CC goes a long way towards atmosphere & authenticity. The "dirt" may be part of it, dunno. Throw around some topsoil and maybe we'll be pleased. :laughing :nut :woot:

So far... Only Luna and Nectos have really done it for me in terms of atmosphere and music. (Tuesday, Thursday at Luna... Monday at Nectos) Unfortunately.. Those all violate your weekday rule. I'been going to SWITCH at Clucth Cargos because friends go. The music is OK... but the crowd is still pretty small. Kinda kills some of the fun..

Ahhhh - now that sounds heavenly. I'd like to listen to some of that and just sit and talk. I like some of the other stuff you mentioned too, to dance to.

I'd love to know what the cover is also. I am not sure if I can make it Friday but I would like to check it out if I do go out. I want to make it to CC Saturday and two nights in a row is a little too much CC for me, hehe.

Im with Fierce Critter. I hate clubs that are all flashy and have alot of gimmicks. Im allergic to stuff like that.

Some people love lots of external stimulous I guess, but I prefer basic , grungy, "real", and dark clubs. I just want space to dance. Nothing fancy. I could care less about who the DJ is or what music they are playing.

I'm usually willing to try things once, but from the way its been described, Diesel sounds like a place I would totally hate. It ain't for me. So I'll leave it for the people who like that sort of stuff...

That is all.

Old school Goth and Industrial Please!!! The music city club used to be famous for. I don't know what the hell to call what they play there anymore. I have been to Desiel once and the atmosphere was great and the staff was even greater, but there was a drag show going on and that always makes for a great time almost anywhere. I will being going on the 19th for SIN! I hope that you get the dj position and play some fabulous music!

Jon and I will check out Luna and Necto SOMEday. If I can get myself to a point where I can go out on a weeknight by myself without feeling guilty thinking about Jon sleeping at home alone while I'm out partying, you might at least see me checking out their "goth" nights on both our behalf. And I'd still like to do some Wednesday night Karaoke at Mephisto's. But Jon doesn't like missing an opportunity to hear me sing, so I don't suggest it in an effort to keep him from driving around SE Michigan on no sleep on Thursday.

Ordinarily, a small crowd also bothers Jon and myself, especially when it comes to dancing. But we've come to like chatting with people at the DGN corner at CC to the point where we're really not getting in the dancing we'd like to be doing for fun & fitness (seriously). So if dancing isn't the main attraction of a given night, we might be able to deal with a smaller crowd. Might be a benefit, actually.

Clutch Cargo's... isn't that what they're calling St. Andrew's Hall these days? I used to go to 3 Floors of Fun in the early 90's before I switched to CC. The Shelter used to play some decent music. I hear it's all hip hop and house now.

Thusfar, I'm thinking Diesel sounds like it deserves a chance where Jon and I are concerned. We'll visit any place to see if we'd like to go there more often - but, like I said, it has to be on a weekend. So if this is going to be a Friday night thing, we'll give it a shot. We'd even take a break from CC on a given Saturday as well.

When I was going to CC in the early 90's, their setlist included stuff like Siouxsie, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Fugazi, Pigface, Dead Can Dance, KMFDM, and a lot of bands I'm sure they're still playing once in a great while that I didn't know the names of back then. Mostly what you'd call darkwave, synthpop, and EBM today. I heard precious little of what I think most people refer to as "industrial" these days. And nothing that really bordered on techno.

I really can't personally get into the more techno stuff they play when it comes to dancing. It gets tedious and boring trying to come up with different moves for 3-4 songs or more in a row of the same frickin' repetitive "boom chukka boom chukka boom chukka boom" beat.

Guess I either need to take dance lessons or just get used to it.

Still, on a "good" night, I hear enough of the stuff I like to keep me coming back. I like a big dancefloor for one.

DR - I know you were mostly looking for music suggestions, and maybe I took this on a "describe your primo atmosphere" turn you hadn't intended. If so, I apologize. Fact is, I'd love an alternative to CC on the weekends. I'm not on the "CC SUCKS AND SHOULD CLOSE" bandwagon - not by a longshot. But I do like variety, and wouldn't mind maybe having someplace else to go to for a slightly different scene.
