  1. Marblez your avatar doesnt fall under my comentary about pictures that your refering to, at least not much. Your AV is pretty acurate, much more than mine is thats for sure. People will tend to vote i think , for who they feel they are most "qualified" to vote for, meaning, who they feel they "know for real what they look like" Jarod and Marblez having been seein in real life around DGN folk a lot, and Brenda just having a lot of different neat pics so as to give many people at least a "fairly clear generalized idea of what she looks like. I dont think it matters how large i make the "what they look like IRL is not relevant to this poll" commentary , people wont read it hehe. And , yes , yes you do suck for screwing up my poll , and the fact that you destroyed the idea that i wanted the person that made the poll not to be a choice IN the poll, god damnit. : And any of you scamps voting for the "best looking" picture get an Offical DGN Poopy-Hat ™© Read the descrption again. :whistling:  :smiling:
  2. In a previous post, i had covered subjects highlighted in red, that where then, brought up after my post, and since i'd already covered them, i figured i'd just quote my own commentary again, rather than re-write the same comentary (which was still relevant) in different words. Bad job of quoting on my part, wasnt clear in my intent.
  3. Basicly its all there and you interpritated it correctly, except for the spin that might suggest im saying "you should not take a stand for what you belive in". That part of it, would be better stated "feel free to take a stand but dont be so rigid in that stand that you no longer seek "the truth"" The idea that "ive thought it all through , and it is not possible that my conclusion could be wrong" is what i belive to be an error that many people may have made. Also , oddly, i tend to often value kindness and politeness over unvarnished truth which is a bit of a psudo-paradox. :ermm:
  4. I like "the subject" of politics. But, in practice, often it can turn to an angry argument, rather than a discussion, which , often leads nowhere. I like to sort of look for "the truth" over the course of a discussion, but i'd say 90% of the time when i start on a political subject with somone, they aready have sort of entrenched in a certian viewpoint and pull up the drawbridge and pour down the boiling oil lest they be invaded by a forgien concept. I try to keep the drawbridge (nearly) always open for business. I honestly , activly try to keep an open mind, you'll hear people say they are open minded endlessly, but its fairly rare to actually find somone that is active at it. Its about impossible to be fully unbiased, that only exists in some sort of fairy-land story, but often i think its not even attempted, its just something people say so as to not sound like ogres. Which tends to lead to heated "fights" rather than discussion, which then can sour me to the act of discussing politics.
  5. No, MINE! And if you try to get is ill go hide out with him in the Tower of Song (girls cant get to us there or so i tell myself)
  6. Depesh Mode? Nitzer Ebb? Sisters? The Cure? Front 242? Ministry? Concrete Blonde?? Who the heck is that? As if i didnt know there was goth/industro 80s music. sheesh, im old remember? I've been bitched at in the past for my playlists being to pre-90s heavy in the past actually. That is , clearly 80s night, as in, as in pop music of the 80s , 80s night. Go have a look at the billings for it. Sure a few random "relevant" songs may slip in. Same would be for any 80s night of the 900 different 80s nights across SE mich.
  7. Drag the wife on over to DGN paradox. Kickin and screamin if nessisary.
  8. LC is mine lulu you cant have him. Keep u mits off. MINE!!
  9. Bro up until recently i havent been calling hardly >anyone Ill send you an IM on yahoo.
  10. How Did You Hear About DGN? How did you finally "end up joining" DGN? Oh and BTW, if you have any interest in helping DGN, the thing we ALWAYS need help with is promotion. Its the hardest thing of any aspect of DGN to get consistent help with. *hint hint*
  11. Yeah Luna's 80's night is on the calendar (click on that link above in my topic post) why exactly i dont know, as there is like 900 80's nights all over town, probably could find an 80's night every night of the week, maybe 2 or 3 clubs a night, and while i do like 80's music im not sure its relevant to "the scene" particuarly. Weelky View Link (same as above) http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?act...week=1110501952 Somone else on this board listens to LC? O.o I rember posting about him on the old DGN and the thread went over like a lead ballon. heh I also used to sneak him onto my 89.3 FM show back in the day and rarely did anyone ever seem to like it much. :unhappy:
  12. I've been trying to get all the "regular goth/industro club nights" sorted out and listed properly on the calendar in the Metro detroit area. (even ann arbor is pushing it a bit far west but it seems fair to include it) Heres a weekly view of the calendar: http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?act...week=1110501952 The corprate summary: Monday - Nectarine Tuesday - Nothing Wednesday - Luna or Mephistos Thursday - Labyrinth Friday - Luna or City Club Saturday - Luna or City Club Sunday - Nothing We missing anything ? Any of the above not correct?
  13. That "scary guy is an employee" comment was meant more as a wise ass comment than anything. He's been saying similar things since before he was working at a club. Hell is phone number is still programed into my cell phone from a pre-scary guy as DJ era. I actually am thinking that tommrow nights possible outing might be, rather than luna, to try and track down SG at Mephistos. If anyone thinks im in disagreement with the "standard CC complaints" they didnt read my post above (which is what SG covers for the most part, with some variations) And, for sure dont know my history with this subject, i was near "frothy-mouthed preacher" status at one point i was so adamant about trying to get many of these things fixed. I've been complaining (as stated above) about 95% of the same things, that everyone complains about, vocally , for nearly a decade in one form or another. I've also been telling complaing patrons to go bitch to the DJs if they have a problem with the music , and to Mike directly , if they have a problem with the atmosphere/setup for nearly as long. In recent years i've slowly been becoming somehwat indiffernt to the music at clubs , unless im DJing there (and that hasnt happend in years either, and never at CC) as long as they can manage to belt out some reasonably danceable stuff when a girl drags me out to the floor. Not becaue i "dont care" but becasue im locked in social-ping-pong so often now, sometimes the only way i know what was played is to get ahold of playlists online afterwards. I've went through my "omg this conversation is ...yawn.." stages on and off as well. Currently im in a "willing to talk about it without banging head against keyboard" stage.
  14. I've never been a "Kill Your Television" guy , even though i can understand the mentality. I've always been an avid reader of "classics" and lots of nonfiction , and the mindless bullshit that populates about 80% of TV , while annoying, doesnt render the entire medium "worthless" There are plenty of bastions of intellignence and quality on TV. Having said that... I've now turned fairly anti broadcast/cable tv. Due to the onset of Netflix and ... DVD burners. (whoa did i say that last part, must have been a typo.) Im slowly losing much use for TV, save the occasional watching of the news/documentaries or older films on say TNT or AMC that are just not yet avial on DVD and im , for whatever reason, really chomping at the bit to check them out. First and formost its the selection, the selection of things to watch from the huge Netflix library is so much better than whatever bullcrap happens to be on TV at the moment is amazing. Then theres the fact that it irritates me when i miss something, ( having to get up to go do something for instance) and i cant stand commercial breaks. For the most part , TV isnt "on demand" in the way that DVDs are. Scheduling my life around what time cable or broadcast TV decides to show a program burns my ass. (Tivo might be an option at some point but the $$$ is a bit high for me the last time i did a budget breakdown) Even when i hear about some new series that im interested in checking out i usually dont bother with it, as theres some much available on DVD that ill just watch the commercial-free, on-demand, massive selection , until it does come on the DVD market. Summary? Netflix is good. :
  15. Go on saturday and find me. Ill introduce you to at least like 10 people if the alcohol / medication mix is working well (meaning im not feeling sick from the PTSD). After a month or so of that it will be IMPOSSIBLE for you to walk from one end of the club to the other without finding friendly faces here and there , and in some cases, it will be difficult even to get to, say the bar, starting from the dance floor without basicly having to ignore a few folks temporarily. One of the key reasons i started this board was to make it easier for people to "make friends" without some of the difficulty associated with doing that by just going to a club with only who you brought with you as friendly faces (if any).
  16. I had you, in mind , specificly as one i was waiting for a long tirade from. Although , at this point , being a DJ at a differnt competing club, that competes directly with CC your complaints have lost a lot of their teeth. Regardless , i've actually sent people down to mephstios (directly by telling them about it) and indirectly by pointing them to the DGN calendar for a long time now and mentioning your name. Which reminds me, another thing on my list of bitches about city club, i've been sending mike (one of the CC owners) business for TEN YEARS and i still have to pay to get in the door. Bullshit? yes it is.
  17. I have been a VERY VERY vocal , outspoken complainer about various problems at city club. I've bitched about them on television (public access), Radio (89.3 FM for months and months, even named names and blamed specific people, and thats one of the reasaons i was fired from the station) and bitched all over the net and , directly to mike. (the owner) But, having said that, City Club IS the cornerstone of "the scene" (if any single thing could be) and has been for longer than many posters on this board have been potty trained or even alive. And, the fact that its for the most part >exclusivly Now, does that mean its the "BEST" club, no. But its the ONLY club that has managed to stay around for a long time, regularly, as a "scene club" for over two decades. Once Luna or mephistos or some other place hits the 5-6+ year mark, having the same days open, consistantly, and doesnt give the impression that it may be out of business in a year, they could, quite easily take "the defacto scene club" title away. But that wont be happening any time soon. Having said all that "DGN night" , will be at CC probably for a long time to come until some other place manages to approach the reliablity and longevity that CC has. People know where it is, know what it is, and its got "history". Nor are any of the problems there particularly huge, doomsday type problems. Many of the things i used to bitcha bout, actually are "fixed" at this point, or are not nearly as bad as they once were, and some others, are shared by other clubs as well. Also something like Necto isnt even in the running, its to far west (and im still quite dubious about its reliablity as a "goth night" , consistantly) Despite the fact that i've been going their since before i even heard of city club. "DGN Night" could be at any club, i just currently dont feel its prudent to switch it to a club night that may be gone in a year, when its been at LCC for years now, and even people that havent been on DGN in 4 years know where "DGN night" is. Im not against changing the night, i just feel the cons outweigh the pros. As for you guys that arent going to CC, just due to being slackers.... been there, done that. :whistling:
  18. I have a hard time with the "time was invented by man" concept, as , its something i tend to assume we all exeperince , before we are able to really even contemplate such things, its not something we were "taught" or something we read in a book or were given as a tool by our parents as a proverbial cotton gin. Its , perhaps "an inate tool used by man" to understand things that he may not otherwise be able to grasp. Without the use of time as a measuring stick we are unable to contemplate, pretty much anything, but im unable to , at least at my current level of understanding buy into that it was "invented" by man, for use. If we want to say that all that exists, was also invented by man, then, we go off into an area of discussion that terns into nearly pure philosophy , with no checkable facts at all and can only be validated by faith without any basis for that faith? At least with fringe theoretical physics we have the HOPE of checking a few facts, that are currently somewhat , at least in part based on "faith". Not to say its impossible that "man invented time" , i just think its unlikely.
  19. I like this thread. (ponders many of the stated things)
  20. First off, howdy. =) I cant say im really a "horror fan" as such but i do have plenty that i like. (although there are plenty on this board) These will just be scattered comments as i dont really have a mental "horror film list" to discuss exactly... hrmm... Dark City was great. Jacobs Ladder i think was very well done, also The Shining. i think im a bit partial to the shining with its "he goes off to live in his jazz age fairy land" ending hehe. The ancient The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is good but only if you can deal with silent films. I'd probably get some things like chaplins City Lights or the film The General before trying to get into this thing. Also i sometimes cant be quite sure what counts as a horror movie. Alien , and Aliens both which i think are masterpeices and are on my short-short list of film recomendations. Not sure if they fit the "true horror movie" list though. Interview was , i thought fairly good despite its flaws. Some campy fun ones where Tremors and the more recent spoof on the killer mutant spider 50's films "8 Legged Freaks" was pretty fun. Recently watched Underworld which was interesting. Im strangely at a loss to discuss horror movies all that much despite the fact that i like "gothic" stuff and im also a major film addict. Ill shut up now before this turns into a novel with me listing off random movie commentary for 4 hours. :
