  1. I've vacillated about this from my 20's up until last year. I come from a big family with everyone pushing the kid factor on me. I'm so old now, they don't waste their time anymore, though, lol. It really used to make me feel like crap, not having kids. I used to think it was my "duty" to have children, and pass on the family genes. I was only worried about that for my father's sake, though, and I have since realized that he doesn't care about that. Whew! lol I agree with Enishi. I'd rather pass on my spirit, and any teachings that I would have to offer the next generation. Ten years ago, I probably would have loved to have had children with Nightgaunt. Money would still have to be factored in, but I would have had a lot more energy to actually raise a child. As it stands now, I don't feel like I have enough time to squeeze in the things that I want to do, much less what I would have/want to do for a child. When we saw Concrete Blonde in concert a year ago, she sang "When I was a Fool," and it touched me to my core. I thought I was done having those transformative experiences by just listening to a song, but she gave me a wonderful gift by singing this that night: "So I live in these days But I still have my old ways 'cause the future, somehow, has yet to arrive And I see all around me the women on time Kids and divorces and crisis in midlife and do I surrender and give up my dream for a brick in the wall and a washing machine grow up and get real for a kid in their teens who won't care what I've done where I've been, what I've seen And I wonder why I tear myself in two over who to be, how to be and what to do and I know you liked me better then and I know you liked me better when I was a fool" This song set with me for days, made me cry, and laugh, and then rejoice. Just as I don't want others to feel guilty for having children, I was also tired of feeling guilty for not having them. It helped to free me. I am not a "woman on time," and I love myself for it! Creating life with someone you love is a wonderful thing, but for me, I think Nightgaunt and I will just have to work on some projects together, like writing a book, and taking care of our furry children, lol. I don't want children for many reason, most of which have already been stated. The human race needs a lot of work, and I honestly don't see us getting our shit together anytime soon. I'll leave this thought here, because this could spawn off a whole other topic about having the human race start completely over (yes please) XD Holy crap. I think I'm done XD
  2. Extremely happy for you!! Nightgaunt and I will be sure to catch you before you go! We will miss you!
  3. lol Not to take away from the thread, but this just reminded me of the following Cruising scene.....one of my all time WTF favorites! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inABlRqOnuw AND I still think the Chatroulette initial video was a cute one
  4. **pokie-poke!** XD We missed you at the party last night!

  5. Nightgaunt and I will probably see this when it comes out just to give it a chance. My spirit will always hold to the original, however....... "Conan, what is good in life?" "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women" YES!!!
  6. I see how you came to the end, but I do not agree due to the very nature of what it is to be human. I know I'm not supposed to add anything within this thought experiment, but I must to explain what I'm thinking. Using only the maxim which includes nothing else isn't going to end in a truthful conclusion. It may work on paper, but not in reality. For this to actually work, no one could take on a culture, or express a philosophy, or really express any thoughts whatsoever for fear of depriving another of their liberty. Liberty and choice go together, so the picture I get from the above maxim is one of all humans standing naked and alone, possibly afraid of moving or even breathing for fear of infringing on the life of a fellow human being which would lead to taking away their choice/liberty. With no one eating, moving, breathing, etc., we all die. Another way to look at it is to take away the need for sustenance, along with the other things needed to actually live, and what we would become would be something nonhuman. This, in turn, would maim the original maxim because the human variable is taken out. Last thought on this.....To be human is to be flawed. We could not handle a utopia.
  7. If we're only dealing with absolutes of anything, it seems as though, Vater, in this vein of thinking that no matter what the maxim, it will always end in the death of humans.
  8. Just had a thought from reading this..... If money is what drives people to do certain things, like become doctors, lawyers, CEO's, etc, then those same people, if that is purely what is driving them, would not want to spend time/effort into evolving into those professions due to not getting any more out of it than the next person who is just sitting on their bum. If I am thinking about a Utopia of sorts, however, I wouldn't want those kinds of people to head up those professions. I would want someone who wants to become a doctor no mater how much money they are making because they are doing it for their joy, and to help out their fellow human. The way human beings are now, though, we can't handle Utopia, so I will get back to the question. The way our societies are set up now, I agree with Joey in that even if we all want to take some money away from the billionaire to help those who have nothing, we are taking away something from someone that they have, however they came to have it, and that is stealing from them, which is immoral. What is also immoral, is that billionaire refusing to give up some of his/her wealth to help someone else out who is less fortunate. Whether moral or not, at this point, as a whole, we would not be able to handle "even distribution of wealth." There are always going to be some shmucks out there that are going to set up things to hoard resources, and try to gain power.
  9. In the end, everything we do is selfish in one way, or another. We live the ways we do to cope, to survive, to feel good about ourselves, to be happy, etc. Even when we do something that makes us feel like crap, it was a choice, and that choice is based on what we want. As for the topic of killing all of our enemies would be immoral, I believe I can see what you are saying by playing the scenerio all the way out, but I don't agree. Morals are ways to live, and deal with what is "right/not right." Every culture has their own morals, so nothing can be universally agreed upon. There are situations where I think killing an "enemy" is not immoral, such as in defense of ones life. And even if the human race ended up killing itself, I think that has more to do with stupidity than being immoral. Now if we are talking about war, and soldiers killing other soldiers because that is what they are "supposed" to do, I do not necessarily think that is moral. Whatever the supposed reason for war, I think there is always room for discussion to avoid an entire people possibly be wiped out by another. We are hardened enough, and life is too precious to be wasted. Sorry if this is fragmented. Just a bunch of little thoughts streaming out.....
  10. We have two male daschunds that are brothers and they are all about licking each others nether regions, and doing the nasty to each others head, and so forth. Male dominance or not, every time I see it I feel like I just watched Two Girls and Cup, lol. We do plan on getting them snipped soon, so we'll see if that changes
  11. I think its a good idea, Kat. We all have problems of our own to work out, but helping others in worse situations is always a great topic to keep open for discussion. Not coming together enough to help each other out is one of humankinds issues in the first place. I'm open to discussion, and projects
  12. This sounds fun! Nightgaunt and I are up for anything
  13. Just because something didn't go as planned in the past, doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried again. When I'm at CC, and there is something going on in the ballroom, I always check it out. When things began in there, one of the things that drove me away was the sound system. Music sounded muffled, and if I wanted to dance, I just couldn't get into it because it sounded like it was coming out of a paper bag. That issue has obviously been rectified, as the last time I was there just a few weeks ago when Servitor was playing, it sounded great! AND I was dancing to the music before the bands played. I was really enjoying myself, and would have danced more to the DJ'ing if they didn't have to stop for the bands. I loved the clips on the wall, and remember thinking how nice it all was to be able to dance at a club to old school again. I'm like Msterbeau~not only do I go to CC to hang out with my friends, I go to dance. If it is made into a lounge area, I will surely visit and enjoy it, but I need to be honest that I won't be spending the whole night there.
  14. February 20th @ The Majestic Rasputina with Voltaire Oh my!!! Oh my!!!! http://majesticdetroit.com/2010/11/02/rasputina/ http://www.local.com/events/event/E0-001-036463704-6/rasputinavoltaire.aspx http://calendar.metrotimes.com/Events/e19503/Rasputina
  15. Tiz good, ya!! I love it when bands I adore do renditions of songs I wouldn't normally like. I still giggle at Rasputina singing "Baby Got Back," lol
  16. I confess I feel you are significantly wrong about this, and are anything but! I confess I like tubed meat.
  17. I don't have cable, which sucks when it comes to things like this. I loved it! Thank for posting. He did a lot of calling out in this segment, which stirs people to research things on their own. It's people like Maher that I wish could be more accessible to the public on TV. We have television, but just the free public channels. I wish this kind of calling out, and people with different views were able to have more access to the public. Also, I think some politicians do a wonderful job in grasping on one thread of an idea, and then running with it as their own, changing the face of the original idea until someone like Maher lifts off the veil. It amazes me, however, that spinning lies never stops a politician even when they are exposed. They just pick up with another lie, run with that, and keep going. The only reason I can see is that people want to believe is some symbol, or even the idea of an idea, even when its full of shit, just to believe in something, or even to create a certain version of themselves. I hate politics. There's too much "you have to play the game" in it.
  18. Granted. Unfortunately, the particular person you were thinking of gets sewn onto you in the fashion of the Human Centipede (I'm so sorry~it was just the first thing I thought of! ) I wish I had better cooking skills.......or any at all, actually
