  1. I enjoyed Paranormal Activity quite a bit. It really does require a specific mindset though. It also requires people in the theater to SHUT THE FUCK UP, due to the focus on ambiance and subtle tension. Dumbasses laughing and shouting shit in the theater ruined the second one for me. >.<
  2. It seems to me that welfare benefits should be kept, but with recipients being required to do mandatory work on various projects. We sorely need more trains and buses for instance.
  3. Like my legs have busted glass in them. I think I may have gone overboard with starting up squats again...
  4. One unfortunate trend of history is the tendency of oppressor/victim categories (along with favored groups) to flip flop over time as social groups react and counter-react to each other. It never solves anything and the blame game needs to ultimately be transcended if real tolerance and equality is to be possible. It's one reason I dislike the idea of labeling myself as a progressive. I can't stand the tendency some progressives have to put an icing of nice sounding rhetoric about tolerance and equality over a passive-aggressive "blame men/caucasians" mentality. It would be far better if progressives went back to the goals of empowering workers they had in the 1930s and 19th century.
  5. Occasionally I've been worried that there are black widows or wasps lurking inside.
  6. I need to see if the cafe in town has Wifi tomorrow. I have an easier time writing when NOT lounging about at home.
  7. A Dance with Dragons. It's good and all but....eh, not a particularly good book to read when I'm in a depressed state. A Song of Ice and Fire is a VERY dark series. :\
  8. It's always sobering when one realizes that the economic and social structure supporting one's lifestyle in an industrialized country may be causing horrendous suffering in other parts of the world. :(
  9. I miss it up north. Beautiful wilderness, hills, few cars, quiet, nice temperatures, less humidity and LESS MOSQUITOES!! Ultimately I still prefer more urban environments and probably wouldn't be happy permanently staying in an isolated area, but the shift from northern to southern Michigan is really grating on me today. :\
  10. Drain some gasoline from all the cars that will be clogging the roads and use it to restock a makeshift flamethrower.
  11. Amazed at how many mosquitoes are in our backyard. There were far less up north, even next to a swamp! O.o
  12. Grilled beef brisket. Soon it shall it journey to its eternal resting place within the darkness of my stomach, with some ale to join it.
  13. :( I worry about dogs in the neighborhood attacking our pets now as well.
  14. My meditation teacher keeps mentioning the Silat workshops he holds down in Florida. Going to a local martial art school would be more practical but Silat by itself is starting to interest me now...
  15. My parents and sister are over in the UP, the loud parakeets are outside, the TV with all its endless reality shows is turned off, and my brother is staying here (watching the dogs while I'm at work). Our house is far more tolerable now.
  16. I guess that makes apple orchards God's ball sacks.
