I'm glad this thread started the way it did...but it's not meant to be just a "roots of industrial" thread. I'll be posting more of that type of thing, to be sure; I'll also drop in some newer stuff, and I encourage others to do the same.

check this out - it's Mycenae Alpha by Iannis Xenakis, a Greek composer who died a few years ago. I think you'll like it.
perhaps I should explain the visuals: those scrolling drawings are the written notation for the composition. A UPIC machine "reads" the drawing (that's what the vertical line is) and plays the corresponding sounds.
funny you should mention that; i saw a story on the news a couple of nights ago about some state (might've been this one) contemplating the institution of a tax on soda. using the $$$ to help fund med care and such.
