Back in the 1950s, Detroit had perhaps the best mass transit in the country, with dozens of privately run bus and streetcar companies competing for the public's $$$. It's been like 50 years of desolation...but finally, a private company's getting back in the game. Taking advantage of cuts in DDOT and Smart, the Detroit Bus Company is starting up on June 1st with two routes: a downtown/Corktown/Mexicantown loop and a downtown/RO/Ferndale run.
