the friend who told me about Thunderdrome has been restoring 2 or 3 '70s-era minibikes. some other friend of his told him about Thunderdrome when he saw the work in progress. My friend intends to race there next year; one of the minis (a Ruppman!) is pretty much track-ready right now. :D

a friend turned me onto this a few days ago; check it out! The Detroit Velodrome (Outer Drive at Mound) closed down in 1989 or thereabouts. Seems that some guys have been patching it up as best they can and having minibike and scooter races there the past couple of years. :D there's plenty of Thunderdrome vids to keep you going all the way to next spring; here's one to get you started:
