  1. 50 years ago today, Yuri Gagarin blasted off into low earth orbit, opening the heavens up to manned exploration. I thought we'd be much further along by now, but it's worth a bit of a celebration nonetheless.
  2. It's highly unlikely that this is the 1st time this particular douchebaguette pulled something like this, *Siren*. If you don't do something, it almost certainly won't be the last.

  7. that trail is part of a long series (hopefully to become one long one) that more or less follows the Clinton River. From Pontiac west, it follows an old rail line until it ends at a heron rookery/nature trail about 4 miles west of Orchard Lake Rd. Hopefully, one day it will go from Lake St. Clair all the way to Ann Arbor.

  9. don't know how I missed this one, but there's a mini triathlon-style event on Belle Isle on July 17. It's a quarter-mile swim, followed by a 20K bike ride and concluding with a 5K run. It's billed as SheROX Detroit...more info at: http://www.sheroxtri.com

Now that it's warming up, it's time to think about outdoor fun & games. for the really hardcore, the Glass City marathon is in Toledo 2 weeks from tomorrow; probably too late to really think about preparing, though. http://www.toledoroadrunners.org the Michigan Trail Marathon is in Pickney on May 1; there's also a half-marathon that day. Or you can take part in the 5-mile run the day before at the same site. http://www.trailmarathon.com west side! the Solstice Run is in Northville on June 25.
