  1. You look like a perfect fit/ for a girl in need of a tourniquet
  2. That is a very good question. I think both parties want to do both: increase income and reduce costs. The difference lies in how we envision that happening. Even as a Democrat with some very liberal leanings, I can see some good in what Snyder is doing. Renovating tax codes so that they are simpler and more realistically outline the appropriate tax burden of each sector is a good thing, even if it loses friends temporarily on both sides of the aisle. I am in favor of simplifying the tax code. That does not mean that I think that everything Snyder has done is fair. The jury is still out on whether supply side economics really improve quality of life. In the evolving world economy, companies still give priority to shipping jobs overseas and overpaying their executives when given tax breaks. Not all of them, no, but in significant enough numbers that it does not create the wave of job creation often touted. What we know WILL help is having a highly educated pool of talent for entrepreneurs to hire from, since many of the jobs that are not easily exported require this level of expertise. THAT in mind, Snyder's decision to offset the loss in revenue generated by his business tax cut with cuts in spending in education seems a bit of a gamble. It may be balanced NOW, but at what future cost?
  3. Well, I can see that it isn't a surprise to anyone, but occasionally our assumptions need to be tested just to be sure that they are in fact true even though they look like common sense. Whether a study of this type should get priority funding in economically questionable times is dubitable, but it isn't altogether useless.
  4. Wow. When you say it, it sounds like a day I really wish I brought my lunch to school instead of redeeming a hot lunch ticket.
  5. Thanks for the link. It looks like I have a date with Destiny that weekend! No, I'm serious. It's not a romantic date. I wouldn't book a romantic date with my brother's love interest. I'm not that kind of twisted. But Destiny has agreed to attend with me even though she is fully aware that I can't dance and look completely the fool when I try. Oh, and she is signing up for the show on Friday night to do some Hawaiian dancing which did not yet look to be represented on the roster. So, cool.
  6. Here is a case where you and I will simply have to disagree. I can not comprehend how you believe that neon signs as a national aesthetic should have more leverage than the people in a single community per majority vote (even by proxy in city council) upon whether those signs, the use of which OUTSIDE the community will NOT be determined by this action, should be permitted. In this case, the "they" are the simple few thousand Grosse Pointe Woods denizens. And "they" are only coming for neon signs still existent in violation of an ordinance voted upon some time ago, publicly, without ample support for their reinstatement since. If this action unfairly targets people of a definable racial, religious, cultural, or socio-economic make-up, I think the burden is upon you to prove it.
  7. Seeing as there are already stipulations that most businesses close by 7 or 9 pm, I don't know why they just can't mandate that illuminated signs go out by a particular time as well. The argument in favor of the ban is indeed concerning light pollution. In any case, whatever the vote is, the outcome is entirely within the community's rights. That's devolution of power at its most basic--the community level. Here, the most basic unit of government is making its own decision regarding its aesthetics. I don't know how you can argue with that. Upon whose rights is it encroaching?
  8. I AM GETTING HOARSE FROM ALL THIS YELLING.

  10. It's not better than seeing Emilie Autumn, but since I get to attend that concert too, it is sort of like having two birthdays.
  11. NO thanks. I would by DGN tees or towels, or even a throw. A digital photo frame with DGN would be wonderful: it'd be the perfect place to display photos of all the wonderful people I've met thanks to the site. But as I'm already, thanks to my mom who is a bit of an impulsive shopper/gift-giver, encumbered with two of the hellish snuggies, I can decisively declare that I don't want any more.
  12. Well, it's still snowing in Rochester Hills. The storm sure didn't end on schedule, though it started almost exactly at 7pm yesterday as predicted. Right now we have only six inches of new fallen snow. And even though some drifts, like the one on our back deck, are an impressive 24 inches, this storm has fallen far short of its acclaimed 10 to 15 inch accumulation. Maybe the late and continuing snow will make up for it. I'm hoping not.
  13. You're kidding? That was your car? Oops. In all seriousness, I am sorry to hear about that misfortune. Does that mean your insurance will be getting you a new car or merely reimbursing you for the Bluebook value of the stolen vehicle?
  14. Yeah, this week's Stone Soup is canceled. I won't have my friends literally dying to come over my house.
  15. Excellent advice. Bjork has a beautiful song full of the same sentiment that I found very helpful following my divorce. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=n8TYzospOso
  16. I don't 'remember' American Bricks--I say so because they were not in manufacture at the time of my first acquaintance with them. However, I am familiar with them. My mom has a shoebox full of the original American Bricks, which were made of pressed cardboard (uncorrugated). The windows and doors and roofing tiles were the same plastic construction used in the more recent sets.
