  1. Oooh... bunches. From a pure musical place... there is Fuminshou No Nemurihime aka HIME by Miyavi. This song was a revelation to me. I had hovering around the Jrock scene until I heard this song. It pulled me in hook line and sinker. Heres to you Miyavi... you crazy futher mucker. Another musical piece is the entire Rock Opera War of the Worlds. Yeah... never heard of it? It's real. Came outa the late 70s. Yeah disco drums backing the rhythms. But it still kicks ass. But it didn't end there. The 90s came around and the techno crowd got ahold of it and remixed the entire thing. Ulludubulla took the original and passed the parts out to various techno artists of the day and had them do their own takes on the work. Not only is it a great album but its a great cross section of the techo artists of the late 90s. I have to give credit to the composer that truly woke me to music in the first place. I had spent most of my life playing music (guitar and drums). But I had never really felt it. It had always been just something I was doing. Then I heard Bach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1Vm6_mn4ME. Things changed. For a while I turned into a classical music snob. It was the early 80s. Other music started creeping in that caught my attention such as Bowie (how could he not) and others. But then I heard a sound unline anything else I had ever heard before. Yet at the same time it was made up of sounds I heard all the time (except the chain saws, no one but a lumber jack hears chain saws all the time. by The Art of Noise was my entry way into the alternative/punk movement (also my introduction to City Club). The next song/band I want to give a nod to was the one that lit me up to the early Goth movement. This band matched my mood and usual state of mind on a regular basis. But This Corrosion by Sisters of Mercy nailed it to the wall and left its bloody corpse there forever. Philosophically (I think of myself as a stand up philosopher) I have yet to find a song that matches me as well as by XTC. I am an atheist and while the song does not reflect the arguments or sentiment I have on the matter its the closest thing I expect to ever hear on the matter. I think of it as my theme song when doing battle in the trenches that make up the nets various religious debate forums. If I think of any others I will post them up.

The words were still there in her mind. But without meaning. Gibbering silently.
  4. Aside from the usual mags I read (New Scientist, Scientific American, Scientific American Mind, Skeptic, Skeptical Inquirer, not much of a trend there) I am slowly coursing my way through Dawkins' God Delusion and Bert Ehrman's Misquoting Jesus. re Dawkins... its definitely preaching to the choir. And he dips into the emotional name calling a bit too often (he seems to lack compassion or empathy for theists) but he does offer a good book detailing the dominate arguments used by theists and the standard counters offered by atheists. Good to read for both sides if you are not familiar with the standard fair on the religious battlefield. Misquoting Jesus is an excellent book detailing the troubles of determining what the bible actually is supposed to say. With all the hands it has passed through its not just a matter of mistakes creeping in via editors. A lot of times changes are made deliberately in order to bring the text more into view with the particular editors view of things. Ehrman first explains the basics of textual criticism and then takes the reader on a tour of some of the more interesting finds via ancient manuscripts we have come to find.
  5. Too many tentacles. There will be enough tentacles for everyone once Lord Cthulhu arrives. Best not to spoil our appetite before then. Ninja or Pirate?
