Get your animals fixed???
Ginevra replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
I don't have a problem at all with ethical breeders. These are ones that work to improve their specialised breed through breeding and education about their breed(s). I do have a problem with some of the types of breedings that I've seen, such as a Teacup Poodle. In MY opinion, this is not bettering the breed but making it more delicate and weaker, which is a whole 'nother thread in itself. I've know many people who will swear by their pet shelter animal. I still prefer that people that are simply looking for a family pet go to the pet shelter. I adopted a dog once from a humane shelter in Minneapolis. Long story short . . . . the dog had been surrendered for "barking too much in an apartment". Since I had a house, it was no big deal. Through trial, error and first hand experience, we found that the dog had been abused, neglected and who knows what all. The dog was such a biter I was getting bitten, on average, once a day for about two months. I tried every way I knew and tried to have as much patience as I could but this dog would just turn around and bite for any reason he felt necessary even when there wasn't one. I felt sorry for him but my hands were tired of being bitten and I was afraid for my toy poodle's safety as well. -

Pets at the pet store are typically sold "whole" because to take a dog to a dog show or to certain competitions which would measure confirmation of the animal, the dog cannot be altered in any way. Although, if I wanted a dog that was show quality, I'd go to a reputable breeder and not to a pet store. Many people are under the misconception that animals WANT to be parents. A bitch or a queen WANTS to have offspring to nuture. Or that they MUST breed at least once so that the animal has the chance to experience parenthood. -
Yeah, but apparently, even that doesn't help all that much

Whats Your Excuse For Not Going To Cc On Saturday ?
Ginevra replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Quizzes And Polls
I haven't gone at all this past winter but winter before last, not only were the bathrooms not clean, there was a VERY noticeble lack of toilet tissue as well as the toilets not flushing at all. Having to wait outside the ladies room while someone takes a bucket of water in there to flush the toilets is not high on my list of Fun to Do. And as someone already stated, heating/cooling is also an issue. While I've not seen the basement like SG has, I'm sure it's in quite a state of disrepair. -
Do you feel uncomfortable posting your "problems"?
Ginevra replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Health & Well-Being
There are certain facets of my life that I simply won't publicly post about. If I'm having issues at work, can't figure out how to handle a co-worker, or just had a fecking bad commute to and from work, yeah, I'll post about it. But if I'm having issues with the boyfriend, the roommate or my best friend, no I won't talk about them here. Someone tried to do that to me once on the old DGN. They posted as if they were speaking about someone who never even knew about DGN. When I read the post, I just about choked on my soda because it suprised me so badly. I never want to do that to any one else so my personal issues don't make it here. When I was involved in other online communities that weren't so geographically concentrated as DGN is, I didn't have as much of an issue in sharing more private aspects because it's like "You live in Vermont and you live in Texas and you live in Alaska and you live in India and . . . . . " I wasn't concerned about the information doubling back on me and biting me in the arse somewhere along the line. Having a geographically closer community as DGN is allows for more slipups and sharing of information. -
The best is when someone talks to you at a store (I work in retail) and they have a handsfree attachment on their phone. Makes it interesting if you don't notice the earbud and it seems that they're actually talking to you instead of just talking into "the air" because they don't have a phone obviously available.

I searched on www.switchboard.com to dig up some information for myself about these locations as I live close to at least one of them. Unfortunately, the only one that I was able to bring up any information about was Cosmic Eye and it did contain the full listing with phone number, map, directions, address, etc. It could be that the others have met their demise already. There is Isle of Avalon? in Royal Oak. It's a little small but it's cozy enough. Last time I was there, they had only just moved to the location so her stock was sparse. You way want to confirm that they're fully moved now. If you're up to the drive and/or are going to be in the area, I would *highly* recommend Crazy Wisdom? It's an excellent store and if you decide to go, I would give yourself at least an hour or two for browsing. It's a two story store and half of the upstairs is an eatery with limited sandwiches and a wide variety of coffees and teas. They don't have herbs that I remember but they do have incense, candles and aromatherapy items. Edit: I was wrong about the sandwiches. After viewing Crazy Wisdom's menu, well, that reminded me that they're a vegetarian establishment.

It's not anything specific, but there is Crazy Wisdom in downtown Ann Arbor. I can't go into that place with any amount of money; I WILL find a way to spend it. heh It's on Main Street, I believe, but it's been a while since I've been over in that area. Perhaps one of our resident A2 people could help us out? :smiling:
