  1. I'll tell you what I told the march of dimes girl the other day. I'm poor, how bout you donate to me :D Here's an idea though. How about everyone take the money they save on The Ritz's DGN night with the coupons and donate that to the forum. Or for that matter the money you save on drinks at Dead-Line from 10-11. The free admission on Fridays before 12 with that number thingie too, that's four bucks right there. Just a thought.
  2. Oops, nm that was the birthday list, not the users online list. Oh well.

  3. "Last Seen: 1st June 2006 - 11:01 PM"

I was going to say it's odd seeing you online on here. Hope you show up more regularly.

  4. Hey, can you update the circus obscene event or delete it so I can create one that I'll regularly update? Thanks :)

  5. Yeah not a problem, just throw me a buck for gas if you can.

  6. Yeah, that would be awesome except we're competing with his show. So I can kind of understand his lack of wanting to do that. But since I do DJ there I agree, you should plug it too! pleeeeeeeeeeze Also I believe we do have an internet connection there as well. You should come do a remote guest spot and broadcast from The Ritz live! I'm just sayin :D I can't actually make that happen but it sounds like a damn good idea.
  7. Bug people! It's the only way they know sometimes. I've literally heard nothing about it since I don't know when. Put links and everything out and do it up on LJ like you used to, maybe even create a facebook page or something too (maybe you have one already, I'll go looking).
  8. You need to advertise it more. I was talking about this the other day with Moondancer and we didn't know if it was still going on because neither of us had heard anything. Also thanks for the plug on your show. If I had HD I would tune in... Wait no I wouldn't I'm working. I'd record it though
  9. I have that song. The cover is by "The MDP". I play it often to be silly. (full song)
  10. I submit to you that you should come out to Dead-Line because I hate City Club and don't want to go for legitimate health reasons.

  11. Again "If you don't watch the news you are uninformed. If you watch the news you are misinformed"
  12. It works both ways again with the original and new definitions. What scares me is if we don't update the definition and people just don't get it that they'll look at Bauhaus, Sisters, etc... and go "That's not goth, Manson, now he was goth" and I'll have to stab someone "YOU SEE THAT KNIFE STICKING OUT OF YOUR CHEST? THAT IS GOTH!". I'm just sayin...
  13. See words and their meanings change over the years. This is just a modern example of etymology.
  14. This topic doesn't belong in here I agree. The problem with hate is it's a human condition. Hating is actually very goth since "emo's hate themselves, goths hate everyone else" lol j/k. But seriously loving your own scene is great but it doesn't mean you have to hate another just to prove your love for yours. But no, I've equated City Club with a middle school for YEARS! There is so much negativity in the scene (even from myself because I dish out what I'm given). Bitter little rivalries and bickering between cliques, both overtly and covertly. This is why I go with my definition as it answers everything and eliminates the need for any debate on what is or is not goth. I'm a little sick and light headed, so I hope I'm making sense. I'm going to go lay down and may post more later when the throbbing in my brain dies down a bit.
  15. Actually you look like a rockabilly I think with that haircut. Not that it's a bad thing but you just remind me of my friend Lyle. Thanks, I'm glad I'm better than a wiki emoticons/default_smile.png https://slate.com/technology/2008/02/digg-wikipedia-and-the-myth-of-web-2-0-democracy.html a great article on it. However I must say that wiki can be a great source of information if used correctly. A great quote comes to mind though. “Dictionaries are like watches; the worst is better than none, and the best cannot be expected to go quite true.” — Samuel Johnson Of course this was probably before the atomic clock, but his point still stands. I win (although seriously, the paradox of it is that first you have to define goth before you can decide how goth like someone is. I DIVIDED BY ZERO OH SHI-).
  16. So where exactly were you when we sacked rome?
  17. Thank you, I do try. I think with logic and reasoning almost anything can be accomplished. Occam's Razor strikes again! That one south park on it should be required viewing for all.
  18. Collide - Whip it 4:03

I was thinking this would be perfect but maybe it's overdone? I don't know but I love DEVO and all DEVO covers!

  19. Time for me to chime in I think, with my gospel of the one true goth definition. If you don't like it I will totally go jihad on your ass. Troy said it best I think in the original post. Just because we don't like something doesn't mean it isn't goth. It's also been stated more than once that most of the best goth bands and their marketing teams have stayed FAR away from the goth label for the obvious reasons that if they accept us the rest of society will shun them (even though they pretty much already do). It's not goth or not goth/black and white/easily definable. What it is are shades of gray and obfuscation. By my definition EVERYTHING IS GOTH! it's just a matter of to what degree... Being gothic to me is having an appreciation for the darker things in life. If you can appreciate the beauty in wilted flowers you can understand what goth is. It's not completely about depression and usually tends to be quite the opposite. It's getting JOY from things that would normally depress most people. This all pretty much spouted off from the "video" thread, which I backed out of because I think everyone posting videos in it are completely wrong just by the nature of the title since it goes against the new definition of the word. Technically (if you want to be a super elitist snob) it was born from 1970's punk and most people call it either post-punk or deathrock now (different genres with similar roots) because everyone shat over the original definition and things got really confusing, then Manson became known as "goth" and none of them wanted to be associated with that douchebag so Manson actually has done way more harm than good for the scene (even if I do like SOME of his music/lyrics and ideals). It spans all genres including EBM/synthpop/industrial/emo/IDM/etc... and all styles of fashion including steampunk (edwardian)/cyber/victorian/punk/etc... has origins from around the world, and spans all religions including Catholicism, Judaism, Paganism, Buddhism, and even Atheism (which isn't a religion). Basically the only requirement in media and art for something to be gothic is for it to be really really dark in nature. I submit that you can't measure what it is or is not but only the degree of how much it is. Why people don't get this I don't know because it seems retardedly simple and logical to me. It's like the debate of if Pluto is a planet or not. First you have to define what makes a planet. Maybe compared to Jupiter we're not a planet since it's size is much much larger than all the rest. Is it a mass of matter that orbits the sun in a somewhat circular pattern that is larger than a small moon? Yes? Fuck it it's a planet then. (ok stupid analogy but if someone can figure out or see where I was going with it by all means take it over and finish the thought, my brain is fried right now).
  20. OMGHI2U XD I'll chime in with a real response later.
  21. It's not, if Richard Dawkins is involved. I mean he's great but they're all about the money over there at the Dawkins foundation. Not that I don't think it's a fantastic cause :D
  22. But the very title of the thread is incorrect because of what the neo-definition of goth is. Technically it's not a question of if it's goth or not, but how goth it is. That is to say it's more of a scale.
