  1. Yeah don't forget The Cure, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, Shriekback, old Ministry, Fad Gadget, Gary Numan, etc... Lots of New Wave/synthpop stuff fits in with the goth movement. I've been schooling myself a bit lately with some of the older music I've just run into. A few things I didn't even know existed but thuroughly enjoy come to mind :D You can read my playlists for them.
  2. You forgot Mephisto's on Saturdays. Though it's not strictly industrial people still have a lot of fun. Also it's only the second floor that isn't industrial, the first floor is goth/industrial/EBM/synthpop all night long. I've added in the entry though, with modified information from the site (which I need to go and update on the site now too).
  3. Troy if you have my number still how come you never f*ing call me? Seriously give me a ring and I got a new cellphone too, anyone who wants the number throw me a message (no PM's please, just any IM chat will do). Still I'd prefer if you tried the house first then my cell.
  4. Blame the patrons for the music. As a DJ, and knowing all the other DJ's. I can tell you they usually get yelled at if they try to introduce anything new. I'm lucky because I get A LOT of leeway where I spin at. You listen to any of the radio stations and you will hear some staples but you hear a lot of new stuff as well. Also to correct you, the music at that dump isn't the same as it was back in 1997-2000, it was BETTER BACK THEN! (I started going in 2000, I remember what they played, and I still like those playlists better than the ones I hear now). As a matter of fact we had DJ Moondancer come in and guest DJ. He's been out of the loop for about two years now and I loved it. City Club has lost a lot of its goth/industrial edge and has gone more "techno" (especially on Saturdays). Not that I have a huge problem with that, But every week, yeah it gets old. I can say the same thing about a few other DJ's who keep repeating songs. (example, Jinx really needs to give Covenant's "Call All Ships to Port" a rest, seriously. I mean yes I play it on occasion. But with him it's almost guaranteed he's going to play it. Same thing with Tim Tiki and Little China Girl, No Flash in the Sky, etc... (I'm only bitching bout Mephisto's DJ's because for the most part thats the only place I ever go anymore). I used to be guilty of the same thing, and in some cases I still am, but I try to avoid it. One of the reasons I keep a playlist is so I can see what I played the week before and try to avoid doing it again. That and even 3 years ago there were many other songs other than just the top 10 hits as well. I like to try and hit on those. This week you can expect to hear me play some Fad Gadget, possibly a whole block of it. BTW I really don't know what would be more fun than going to a club, seriously. Maybe a party with some friends but the sound system is better at the club. I guess if it was a choice between City Club and doing nothing.... I'd do nothing (since I have better music at home and a better sound system). Unless I really wanted to hear loud music late at night, then I might show up. Lucally we have so many other clubs I never have to do that. I'd probably end up going to a hick bar before going back to City Club. Thats it for now I guess...
  5. I won't use the bathroom at City Club unless I'm about to piss myself or something, and even then I can stand up and use it so it isn't a problem, but I will use it at Mephisto's. Troy I can guarentee you if you switch goth night to Mephisto's that you will get in free of charge on any night. Also pretty much anyone who becomes a regular gets in free too. Also speaking of working at the radio station update your yahoo information, it still says you DJ on it. As far as my bitching about the club goes I've done that ever since I found out there were other better clubs. I will also say openly and freely that I do like Luna and Necto. So take my comments how you will I also think that if a club with the same size dance floor and hours of City Club who catered to the same type of crowd opened up elsewhere it would overpower it in no time.
  6. Sup Spookykid? Anyhow yeah, I can guarentee you if people don't start going to Mephisto's we're going to lose that night as well. The owners are getting fed up with the lack of attendance and interest in the club from the goth/industiral crowd. I hear live acts on Thursdays and Fridays (which is fine since those are non scene related nights). But I do Saturdays currently and roomer has it Jinx is to start right along side me (or maybe take over completely, if my industrial won't bring you out his EBM might, not that we both don't dabble in the other genres). lestat_and_lilith you talk about being thankful for what we have. Well we have more than City Club. Most people just go there because they know everyone from what I gather. True our dance floor isn't that big but we've just put in all new lighting in on the 2nd floor converting it into a dancefloor and we've got other plans as well. I'm trying to bring back the wireless internet so people can surf the web there. I want to start streaming the music online when I get that set up again. Also if we could be open till 4:30 AM we would be. I welcome any suggestions anyone has of how to improve our bar as well.
  7. I can site many reasons why I hate it and Labyrinth, Troy you opened up this can of worms, so it's no one's fault but your own #1. Quite literally everyone thinks that it is the cornerstone of the Gothic/Industrial scene in Detroit. I avoid it to prove that it is not in fact necessary for the Gothic/Industrial scene to survive. I want to see the scene become decentralised from the place. #2. The Leland building is falling apart. I made my way into the basement and it made me never want to enter the building agian. Last time I was there was just to DJ the NYE bash in the 2nd club (Stuido 54). They're trying to fix it up but I doubt they'll ever repair it fully. If a city inspector saw it they would be shut down. I'm sure someone has and they're getting paid off to keep their mouth shut. I prefer my club where the bathrooms are actually clean. $3. They still owe me money for said work. They've taken enough of it over the years anyhow. Not to mention the fact that Higgins is only interested in making more cash and he's such a penny pinching greedy fuck that he'll do anything ANYTHING to save or make some extra money. (yeah I used "$3." for that reason on this one heh) #4. I work for the competiton, not that it means anything. I could still go but I'd rather go to where I know the owner personally. I know and like all of the staff (for the most part). If I see something wrong or that needs doing, I have the power to fix it or change it. If I need a ride and it's early enough I can call the owner and he himself will come and get me or have the bouncer pick me up. If I get hungry (or if anyone gets hungry really) we'll order a pizza and I can EAT there. I can also book bands I'd like to see and I think will bring people out (such as oh say "Faith and the Muse" on my birthday last year). If I'm DJ'ing I get to play whatever I want usually (the crowd doesn't mind either since it's all good music). I want to take a nap, I can go upstairs and sleep. I feel at home there and everyone knows me, I'm not just some face in the crowd. It's like a gothic "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. Even if Mephisto's closed up tomorrow forever I still wouldn't go to that sh*thole ever agian. I'd go to Luna more often or find some other goth club to go to. I already try to go to Luna as often as I can on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we're not open and Necto on Mondays, though it's not often I do that as my truck is hurting right now. Or just hang out in my room which I've made almost exaclty like my own little club. Complete with lighting and club quality sound (well better than City Club sound actually since my speakers aren't blown).
  8. LOL black does not not count because it is a given. It does not count because it's the absense of all colors. Just had to point that out.
  9. A couple of Technics SL-1200 MKIII's, what the hell, lets go with the limited edition gold plated ones too. Either that or the new CD turntables they got, or the DVD ones Pioneer has (that are at Necto). A quantum supercomputer. Yeah that would make me happy.
  10. The dollar would be really strong if we had something baccking it again. Right now it's value just keeps going down.
  11. I was standing in the shower one day thinking, if you've ever stood in the shower drinking a beer, you might be a redneck. Not that I drink beer in the shower, or anywhere else for that matter.
  12. I have 4. Hat, boots, duster, belt buckle. But this was obvious
