The Gathering 7 - Thursday, April 21st- Coming?
Scary Guy replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Nope, but I'll still invite people. Apparently I was incorrect. It's the week after this one I can't make it. I'll see you there! -
There Was Nothing I Could Have Done
Scary Guy replied to LadyKay's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
Speaking from a specifically sci-fi standpoint, even if you could go back in time to change things you couldn't, because then there would be no reason for you to go back in time to change them creating a paradox. Speaking from a realistic one, there is no point trying to change the impossible. Accepting things and moving on are the only options. All you can do is try to fix or mitigate the fallout that comes from it. -
Goth Attire Required Picnic?
Scary Guy replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Well if it isn't required then it should say "strongly suggested" and not "required." Yes I might wear all black but jeans and a t-shirt are still jeans and a t-shirt, no matter what the color. Maybe I'll throw on a button-up or something. But I never thought I dressed very goth, and I know people who dress very corporate who are goth as hell on the inside. Pretty sure there's a topic on this somewhere else on the board too -
Are you Ready for Virtual Reality?
Scary Guy replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Movies, Books, Art, TV, Gaming and Computers
First off FUCK Facebook for buying Occulus Rift, and fuck consumer VR in general. Closed sourced proprietary trash I say. The Avegant is what I want but the FOV sucks and there is no head tracking as far as I can tell. Anyway we've had VR since Wolfenstine 3D. What we want (and isn't said) is immersive virtual reality with a head mounted display (preferably with tracking.) I've been also very into 3D online worlds and have been on Cybertown, Goonietown (formed when Cybertown started changing for the worse), worlds.com, Second Life, Vivity, and now JanusVR (which is closed source but the worlds are pretty open.) We also don't have enough people working on input devices like the Leap Motion, or something like the p5 (outdated USB powered Power Glove successor.) I want something like this with power glove like abilities built in too. I have an old serial Spaceball but good luck getting that to work apparently (I have a few if someone wants to try.) Also our computers run VR great if the code isn't sloppy. Shit our PHONES are even doing VR! Some like the HTC Evo 3D have done that and taken 3D photos too. The problem really is the raster graphics. What we need is vector like the Virtual Boy had (but not red, eww.) -

Chaos Theory
Scary Guy replied to kat's topic in Current Events, Science, Spirituality, Politics, Religion & Sociology
See, I don't like the term "chaos theory" because there is nothing chaotic about it (and "domino theory" has a better ring to it. Although if there is a difference between the two I admittedly don't know what that is.) I'm a determinist in that I think we only have one course of action, free will is an illusion, and everything is tied together. it's a bit sad to think we have no free will at first but you get used to it. Yes we have the illusion of choice but we don't really HAVE choice. Our choices are shaped by our life experiences and environmental circumstances at that moment of choice. Even when you say "oh well that's not true, I'll do the opposite of what I'd do just to prove you wrong" well you are only doing it to try to prove me wrong because I'm a dick and you want to prove me wrong. That isn't you changing your mind because you want to that's you changing your mind to prove me wrong because I'm a dick. I think if you had a computer that could simulate every aspect of the universe you could predict everyone's actions. -
The Gathering 6 - Thursday, April 14th - Coming?
Scary Guy replied to Troy Spiral's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
I plan on showing up after a quick stop at a book thing on the East side. Be around 9-10 though. -
Makes sense. Anyway it's just paper, you are who you are regardless of what it calls you.

Really? Wow that's weird. Maybe you got took as a kid. You should do some genome tests to see if you're actually related to both your parents. I mean that sounds like a red flag to me. Then again, I'm paranoid about everything.

"Red Apple doesn't count as a recruitment place" Every place counts as a recruitment place! I mean granted if someone goes there, they're probably already there for the DGN night anyway. However if a friend brings them along there is a chance they're not on the forum and "oh you're not on the forum, you should check it out *hands card* and yet another member shows up. Anyway i'm pretty sure Failbook and the other social networks hasn't done any of the other smaller online forums any favors (or their users with all the data-mining.) V.F. has suffered too but that might also because their user-base is made up of a bunch of assholes too (although they might data-mine as well, I don't know.) Actually I'm pretty sure they do since it connects to enough ad networks. All this thing connects to is googletagmanager.com, gravatar.com, and wp.com. The first I have blocked with Ublock Origin, the other two are pretty okay although I do have a bit of paranoia about those tracking you across different sites with the IP address.

9 is okay but if you can handle it I'd go with a .40 cal Glock. Mostly because you can also buy conversion barrels to convert down to .357 and .9mm (but you can't convert up for obvious reasons.) But obviously get whatever you feel comfortable with shooting. If you want to try out a bunch of different ones you should come to one of our atheist shooting group's outings! ------------------------ Okay, as for the safety of things, I've seen a lot of things over the years. I-Rock (by Harpo's) is pretty safe because they have security standing around. Northern Lights is Detroit but it's in Midtown right by CCS and Henry Ford. There's a parking structure across the street you can't park in, but it does have security that drives around sometimes. Also I know NL keeps cameras on its lot which is nice. Small's is okay as I've never had any issues there although I had my truck stolen from out front of Mephisto's once and that's also in Hamtramck, that was in 2004. I see cops driving by Small's CONSTANTLY too so it's pretty damn safe. City Club I haven't had any issues with. The lot is secure and safe (now) and I've been parking on the street lately because I'm cheap and I also have had no issues with that either. Of course everyone's mileage may vary. I remember when Nerdcore had her car broken into outside of Luna one night and that's in Royal Oak (although she was parked back in the dirt lot on a busy night). --------------------- Finally for those who might not have seen it, I did make a thread about things to do:

nightlife Nightlife events in the South East Michigan area.
Scary Guy replied to Scary Guy's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Yeah I didn't include Ohio in the recurring nights because it's pretty far and I was mostly focusing on the Detroit area, although I'm not opposed to others. The Dark Room is a monthly event in Toledo too though. I just mentioned it because I'm doing that one night. Thanks for mentioning it though, maybe I can figure out a way to stay the weekend and hit both. I mean if they get the attendance that REALM currently does then they need all the support they can get! -
More like detroitgothICKY ASS THEME! Also if you do that XKCD hyphen moving thing, it still applies. Theme currently looks like ass (It's hard to imagine that it looked worse than it does now.) https://www.xkcd.com/37/ I mean don't get me wrong, I like creepy bats and spiders and implements of destruction. However this seems forced and cartoonish. Well at least we can post, and it isn't a white theme, joy! Oh also you can now login with Failbook. That's a bug, not a feature

I tie that into country very closely. Anyway I'll check out the stuff you posted for sure!

Actually the last season was pretty good. They actually ended it, and it wasn't some Blake's 7 bullshit ending either (because when I think bad endings I think of that literal shit-show.) I will say one thing about the ending left me uneasy, at the very end should not have existed. It's about as much as I can say without spoiling it.

I forgot about Ghost Synthesis and Violet Void, and Terror Network (who has no good videos)

nightlife Nightlife events in the South East Michigan area.
Scary Guy replied to Scary Guy's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Well that's exactly why I posted it! They just started doing them at the begging of the year. I just didn't include it in the main list because it's in Ohio and nowhere near Detroit. I don't have the fun things in Lansing listed either. If someone wants them listed up they can post but I don't really know because I don't go or hear often enough to keep that part updated. -
