  1. I was a DJ at the CC in the mid 80's and was subject to same criticism that is happening today. The only problem was that there was no forum to discuss topics like this. I mixed beat on beat like Ms.Naughtya's post. We had complaints I don't doubt it, that's what I was told by management. Club goers are very passionate about the CC. I have noticed on my visits that there is a lot of energy left on the dance floor when one song ends and the next song begins. The wait for the start up of the next song causes dancers to lose dance momentum some stay some leave. So that's why beat mixing is used to keep the dancers and the flow of the music going. If beat mixing is used correctly it does not necessarily mean one song would last 3 hours. For example Depeche Mode sounds different that New Order and Nitzer Ebb is different than Front 242. The object is to bring in the new song while you are dancing to the last song. Then you realize there is a new song you are dancing to. Here is a classic mix I did for fun. It is on sendspace.com please feel free to download and listen http://www.sendspace.com/file/2koas9 As a DJ in a cutting edge club like City, the DJ's job is to introduce new music. The best way I found to do it was play a few recognizable then slip in a new song that I was trying to break in. Then I would go back to a few recognizable songs and the cycle continued. I mixed a set then would take a break with what I called dance oriented rock like, The Cure, The Smiths, The Cult, I am sure you get it. I would try to balance out the night, easier said than done. On Saturday nights the CC had 2 DJ's that took turns one mixed the other played out songs beginning to end that seemed to worked. The CC DJ equipment and sound system needs to be addressed. It needs an update. The CD Decks need an upgrade to modern CD decks. The sound system and the equipment are the same stuff I used, that's over 20+ years ago. If today's DJ 's do know how to mix it is almost impossible to do so on the CC equipment. There are some quality computer based programs for laptops. Hell what am I talking about, the whole club needs an update.Just look up and around the next time you are there or better yet dance around a puddle or a bucket of water after a rain. AAAH I digress.
