  1. I have a 3 1/2 year old who doesn't listen to me at all!!! It is so frustrating, even spankings don't work on him (and I give 'em good). His dad doesn't have any better luck with him. Sometimes making him stand in the corner or sit in time out will work but only briefly. We are happily married and financially secure so there's no home life issues. I have two older children from my first marriage, a 12 yo daughter and 6 yo son who I never had this problem with. I refuse to give up on disciplining him even though he's been like this since the day he was born.....I know, how do you know you have a bad infant right?? Because he never let me put him down, would scream for hours until he got his own way. He's very smart and determined to get what he wants, I think he's going to make an excellent adult when he's allowed to make his own decisions all the time. I have no suggestions as to what to do about it but at least you know there are other kids that are the same way.
  2. My husband has the Droid and he loves it. I have to say I am pretty impressed with the things it can do. We've used it as a speedometer and metal detector, which I thought was pretty unexpected. I personally want an iphone because I already have an itouch now so I already know how to use it and I have a Mac which I think will sync better with an iphone. I think that it would be a matter of personal preference. I would say go to the store and play around with both and see what you like. Also, I'm sure you can find product reviews that could help.
  3. I pack my kids a lunch because I don't want them eating the crap that is served in the cafeteria at school. I'm usually in favor of new laws but I'd be pissed if someone said my kids would have to eat what was being served instead of what I gave them. If healthier eating is what they're going for they could just ban a few things (even that is wrong, but better) such as pop or candy from being sent for lunch. It's all about the $$$.
  4. My 3 1/2 year old son LOVES pink and I never told him he shouldn't. My 6 year old son will put on his cousins princess dresses when he's playing with her at her house because that's what she had to dress up in. At home he has a firefighter costume but over there he's a princess.
  5. That is hilarious and I would also love to see it!
  6. Thank You I biked on the Great Appalachian Trail last summer and it was also an old rail line. It was really cool because some of the bridges still had the old railroad ties under the new wooden planks and my son is obsessed with trains. The GAP starts in Pittsburgh and ends in D.C., we did not bike the whole 300 miles but I'd love to one day. Biking along the side of a mountain watching people whitewater raft below you in a rain storm is a memory I will never forget. I am really excited to check out the trail that runs along the Clinton asap:)
  7. I am so looking forward to the nice weather. I only recently started running so there's no way I could participate in the above events this year, hopefully I could do something like that next year. My family and I like to bike a lot. Last summer we spent most of our time in PA since my husband lived there but he's back this year and we need to find some good trails. Any suggestions? Does anybody know they name of the bike trail that runs over I-75 just north of M-59?
  8. OK, just curious....what is a Hipster? I think I kinda get the idea but I'd like to know.
  9. When i was in kindergarten I wanted to be a model, teacher or artist. I can really laugh at those now since not even one of them would suit who I am. In middle school I want to be a Nurse Anesthetist but then by the time I finished high school I didn't want to go to college and I fell in love with being a waitress. I had a lot of opportunity to go into management but never wanted to. I still love being a waitress except I haven't done it in over a year and I just recently graduated from nursing school. In a few short weeks I'll be an RN. I still want to be in the OR but there really is no aspect of nursing that I don't love. I've been doing homecare for a few weeks and even though I thought it was something I'd never want to do I have enjoyed it so much. I still feel that I have no idea what my future hold except that I am a nurse and I will love it.
  10. I have 3 children and I don't want any of them. lol. Actually, I do like my kids most of the time but they sure are a lot of work and I completely understand why people decide not to have them. I'm actually looking forward to when they are older and we can be more on the same level and actually have real conversations. A comment about the hygiene of cats vs. children....you are right, children are filthy!!! Why the hell do they always want to touch my face???? lol.
  11. Good reply Vater! I don't have a huge knowledge of unions or politics but from what I've learned in school about how and why they were started and what I know about how they are now, my opinion is that the two are entirely different. I liked your point about the company shipping jobs to Mexico so that they can fire the people who can't/won't perform. How true.
  12. My kid is on Concerta (which is the same as Ritalin). I'm not a big fan of meds and took me a long time to actually make the decision to do it. So far, the meds have made a world of difference. He is almost 6 and in Kindergarten. Before, he could barely walk 10 steps without tripping over something and now he's fairly coordinated. He can also sit still in school instead of rolling across the floor and he can actually write his name (he has an almost savant like ability for reading and letters but no ability to use a pencil). He also has extremely poor vision and he's some where on the high-functioning side of the autism spectrum. All of this adds up to a very complicated case but so far the meds are helping a lot. However, I really enjoy the evenings when the meds wear off because I get to see the "old Roland" again. He's very creative and playful even if he's a walking disaster at that time. So, for a lot of kids, maybe Ritalin is overused but for mine it has been good (so far).
  13. I can totally relate with the "pain in the ass" as I have two little boys of my own. Mine are 3 1/2 and almost 6. I love them to death but boy oh boy do they know how to test that theory. I live in Roseville so I'm also you neighbor.
  14. This is a cool topic. I wish I had a cool talent. I can roll my tongue, cross my index and middle finger and ring and pinky finger on one hand without using the other hand to help. My grandmother used to do it all the time and she thought she was so cool so I kept practicing, I don't actually think it's that cool though. I'm very good at painting ceramics though I haven't actually done it in over 10 years. I can sing pretty damn good too, in fact I sing constantly about ordinary things, I drive my family nuts! Also, I'm really good at stabbing people with sharp pointy objects:)
  15. I like your idea about the old horror movies on the walls. I love the ballroom but whenever I go in there it's really loud and there's no where to just chill out. I would love to just sit back and have a drink in the dark.
  16. So, what makes these people vampires? It says they don't bite. I am not a vampire but I do bite:)
  17. It sounds like the problem wasn't about how these idiots were dressed by rather how they behaved. I love to dress up personally but my husband does not, he still loves the music and loves to dance. In the past he was going to wear something I knew he didn't feel comfortable in because he felt he should but I made him stop and put on his regular jeans/t-shirt because he should be able to wear what he wants and still have fun without feeling out of place. I see people at City in their normal clothes, having fun and it's cool as long as they aren't being jerks to those of us who want to be our freaky selves.
  18. I used to hang out at that bar after work many years ago. I was not a big fan of the place myself but that doesn't mean it's not better now.
  19. I think the African dance workshops sound really cool.
