Once I read that, I KNEW Charlie must be back. That's wonderful! I probably missed this thread for a few days. Hey, it would be great to go on vacation in New England, but as the New Jersey poet Jon Bon Jovi once wrote (in reference to your impending trip to Maine) "It doesn't make a difference If you make it or not You've got each other and that's a lot For love - you'll give it a shot" We'd totally get together with you, but we're very po' We have a car and even with a free ticket to the RenFest and packed lunches, I told bean we're not going unless we carpool. The odd part was, it made the trip to Holly a lot more fun. (Of course unlike the dick heads that use Tyger, I already liked Eevee, LOS, Slogo, Stormknight, and Msterbeau. Even if I got my ass kicked playing travel-Sorry. It sucks when Slogo bumps that bitch back to start.) The Van of Doom is the only way to fly. Back to you Angel, I may be heading down to those parts a couple times in October. Maybe bean and I, you, Tyger, and Morbid, can BBQ and watch a movie or something. -------------- I've had a good weekend so far. RenFest was great and this morning. bean touched my tra-la-la http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbYtqAWDF2U It was so nice I can try to forget the nasty email I just got attacking me for my "deep-seated psychological issues" Ignoring an ex who is starved for communication is an interesting thing. Each time I don't respond, it gets her a little nuttier.

AFTERMATH It was a lot of fun! Went in the Van of Doom with Msterbeau, Stormknight, bean water, Eevee, Lord of Sins and Slogo. When it got a bit slow in the middle of the day, I fellated a banana for the others viewing pleasure. It tasted wonderful! Got to meet Lula La Rose, who was quite nice and her husband. Had a Phee sighting! He brought the whole brood. Also got to see and talk with Tzura and Nightgaunt, only made better because it was at a showing of only my favorite puppeteer ever And when the banana was done, I enjoyed a nice hard pickle. This time I shared it with bean. Good entertainment, good wares, good people. Van of Doom is the only way to travel. Next time I may even go without showing the fellas a tasty shot of me bum. -
Great song. It reminds me that in 1987, I couldn't go anywhere without hearing this song, which samples the last :30 of the Bar Keys song above Although this song also samples Public Enemy, James Brown, and RUN DMC to name a few, that sample is my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B87snXgV7Pg&feature=related

I am going to try not to do a long post, even though I have so many thoughts on this issue and so may things to respond to. Rev--- First of all, although I stopped using multiple colors in my posts, because I found that it's easier for many to see my points in one color, I completely get your individuality, but PLEASE use colors that show up well. (I'm a fan of your use of dark green, esp when you use it to respond to someone within their quote, but certain others like red will cause me blindness at some point (I only say this because I love what you have to say) Rev-- I have to disagree with your statement here " ...the LGBT, in their massive wisdom, don't see that Civil Union is semantically the same shit..." The way I see it, there are two BIG reasons for gay marriage, not civil unions, gay marriage, FEDERAL gay marriage. (I've tired of states doing it. Let's put it to the country, so we can give gays, lesbians, etc equality everywhere and move on) 1. LGBTs WILL NOT have equal protection UNTIL they are given full marriage equality This next section is taken directly from the Human Rights Campaign--- Rights and Protections Denied Same-Sex Partners Because same-sex couples are denied the right to marry, same-sex couples and their families are DENIED access to more than 1,138 federal rights, protections and responsibilities automatically granted to married heterosexual couples. Among those are: --The right to make decisions on a partner's behalf in a medical emergency. Specifically, the states generally provide that spouses automatically assume this right in an emergency. If an individual is unmarried, the legal "next of kin" automatically assumes this right. This means, for example, that a gay man with a life partner of many years may be forced to accept the financial and medical decisions of a sibling or parent with whom he may have a distant or even hostile relationship. (That's right the same dad that disowned you because you're a fag now has more say in your welfare than your loving partner of 10 years) --The right to take up to 12 weeks of leave from work to care for a seriously ill partner or parent of a partner. The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 permits individuals to take such leave to care for ill spouses, children and parents but not a partner or a partner's parents. --The right to petition for same-sex partners to immigrate. --The right to assume parenting rights and responsibilities when children are brought into a family through birth, adoption, surrogacy or other means. For example, in most states, there is no law providing a noncustodial, non biological or nonadaptive parent's right to visit a child - or responsibility to provide financial support for that child - in the event of a breakup. --The right to share equitably all jointly held property and debt in the event of a breakup, since there are no laws that cover the dissolution of domestic partnerships. --Family-related Social security benefits, income and estate tax benefits, disability benefits, family-related military and veterans benefits and other important benefits. --The right to inherit property from a partner in the absence of a will. (which many people can't afford) --The right to purchase continued health coverage for a domestic partner after the loss of a job. (Tell me that's not important in the state of Michigan) Such inequities impose added costs on these families, such as increased health insurance premiums, higher tax burdens and the absence of pension benefits or Social Security benefits in the event of a partner's death. Some same-sex and transgender families consult attorneys, (at GREAT PERSONAL COST to them, IF they can afford it) to draw up legal documents such as powers of attorney, co-parenting agreements and wills, that will at least permit them to: -- declare who they wish to make health care and financial decisions for them if they become incapacitated; --how they wish to share parenting responsibilities or, in the event of a breakup, custody of a child; and --what they want to happen to their property when they die. However, these are not a substitute for legal protection under law and cannot provide the broad range of benefits and protections provided by law. 2. Legitimacy Candyman questioned "Is it(the drive for gay marriage) so they can shove it in the faces of people that think differently than they do?" In a way, YES! But in the most wonderful positive way possible. (And devoid of anything shoved in another's face) See, there's a reason why a growing number of politicians say, "I support civil unions, but not gay marriage." Ask yourself, if it is basically the same thing (which I showed above it isn't but it IS sold that way) why is there such a division??? Because politicians want to give equality, while also acknowledging to their supporters who find it offensive, that it's not really marriage. It's a way of saying "You have equal rights (which is a myth as shown above) but your relationship does not hold the same validity as a man and woman's, so we can't really give you the title of married. Because you're not. That's only for good g-d fearing Christians, (or any other opposite sex couple that wants to get married) So, it's a way to pacify gay people AND shut up conservatives who can't stand the thought of LGBTs put on the same equal level as straight people. Simply put, by legalizing same-sex marriage, it is saying, not shoving in their face mind you, but saying to those "that think differently than they do" (as Candyman put it) same sex couples, in the eyes of the law are 100% equal to opposite sex couples, they have the same rights, same protections, and therefore their relationships are EVERY BIT AS VALID as opposite sex ones. You can condemn us to hell, but you can't deny that we are equal while on this earthly realm. Not that there hasn't been an effort in the past to give people rights that were separate but equal. I just don't think it worked out so well. -
Like I'm looking forward to the RenFest. Thank g-d for old canned vegetables. Who would've guessed they'd be worth a $19 ticket? They better take bean's student ID for the other ticket though.

I think bean and I are going. I'm working next weekend Then the weekend after I have MichJewfest---Live! at shuls across the state---, then Mich JewFast Live the weekend after that, so this should be great. Bean and I will be modern, but mess with us and we will go medieval on your asses -
I couldn't believe stronger in a woman's right to choose, and as the anti groups pray every day outside the clinics, I pray every day that there are men and women like George Tiller who continue to perform procedures that are safe and legal despite the threats. We need to have comprehensive sex education, so people know about birth control. We need to have comprehensive abortion alternative education, so women know that if they get pregnant, there are other ways to go. But then, we need to give the final deciding power to the person most affected by it. It is a difficult moral decision, but one that I leave to the woman.

Yeah, I feel this way all the time. Of course it does no good to beat yourself up. You'll still beone of the most astute, intelligent people I know. Thanks to the people that gave me support. Feeling like I don't know why I'm always amazed when so many of the people who's political and complete worldview are opposed to mine become the same people I personally like best. It's always been that way. Like I am going to take care of that yapping little hairball across the street if he doesn't shut up. Damn bean for making me a cat person

How about you, you were there. OK, lets see who I talked to and saw bean water---always nice seeing you. You're too easy though. Every time you're there, you go home with me. Also saw Crank and put on Flock of Seagulls when I got home. One thing I'll never get, how are they a one hit wonder band when three of their singles charted? (I Ran, Space Age Love Song, Wishing) Osaka, better-dressed than everyone as always, nice dancing with you Sglgothmom-you looked so great, I didn't even recognize you at first, good to see you smiling so much Black Jack and Lord of Sins--good hanging with you two LOS -- good finally talking, "Women ya!" Women are good Hmmm... "38C wait no B, need to take into account the outfit, the heels, and the trajectory of how she was leaning." Hunhee/Burrich the happy couple returns on a Saturday! next time tho in a case of breathing vs boobage = breathing always wins Got to say hi to Fin, bean got to say to Saechalyn And stormknight, If you ever need four hands again to make a point let me know And finally, we planned on meeting up with Az (occasional poster) and his less gothically-inclined friends + taysteewonderbunny, one of my all time favorite people, and we did, and it was good Amen. -
Honest Debate is fine, but when you compare: a health policy with a public option and the democratically-elected president of our United States---- to the final solution and the fuhrer who was responsible for gassing 6 million of my people, I'm sorry, you're fucking nuts No matter, Barney Frank knows how to handle the crazies.

Coming from a serial hugger, Dragon gives too many hugs. Her arms must get very tired I'm very happy your dad's doing better. That type of thing is often the toughest on the loved ones. ---- I'm amazed at how empty I'm feeling. I had my best friend, next to bean, be around here for over two months this summer, and now she's gone. She cried and bemoaned the circumstances that made this go into place. It's back to a few hours here and there, and a liquidated paycheck---until next summer. A year ago I had money and stability and her. Now I have the love of my life, but everything else is in flux I feel like I'm ruining three lives at once. I keep telling me it was all for the best it was all for the best it was all for the best it was all for the best it was all for the best. (And I honestly couldn't imagine my life without bean, not a day, not an hour) I just hope I'll still be saying that when the final notices start coming. I'm too old for this shit.

Good point. For me I think it comes down to if the principal, who says it was after school and only with adults were present, OR if it was in front of kids, some of whom may be offended. It's funny. I almost got banned from a classroom. I was explaining chanukah and I sang a prayer in Hebrew which no kid could understand. I was thanked for bringing cultural understanding to the predominately Christian class, but I was told later not to come back for Passover or any future holiday. The teacher wouldnt say why. I had to go to the principal, who finally told me it was the prayer I sang over the candles. I said "It's in Hebrew. I could be singing about how g-d is dead" but she said one of the parents--none of whom were present-- had a problem with it, so I was sure to modify things in the future. As tough as it was, I understood though. It's not my place to sing Hebrew there, so I won't. And trust me, it's not a Christian thing. There is probably 1% Jews in this school. Once you cross that line from cultural understanding to religious proselytizing, even if you're speaking in tongues, which is quite entertaining, your out.

Candyman, I have to say something to you specifically. All the others with conservative viewpoints are respectful and keep on topic. You are so condescending and rude to those who differ from you, it's just sad. Your vitriol drips from every word, it's almost unbearable. I don't like ignoring posters, so I'm writing this instead. And I'm putting it here so you don't think I'm too afraid to post it publicly vs. a PM. As for Creation and Evolution---- There are VOLUMES of scientific hypothesis where evolution has been tested and re-tested and re-tested, and its findings HAVE proven to give enormous benefits to understanding our world and environment. Creation "theory" is a guess with no tests and nothing proven. It's based on belief and belief alone. And I say this as someone who prays to an invisible man in the sky every Friday. As for this topic, I agree with Tits that this is going to far, however it is concerning that the school was just found guilty and brazenly ignored it a few months later. It's as if they were saying 'bring it on' I don't know if the punishment fits the crime but something should be said. As someone who can actually see both sides with calmness and perspective, I concur that the ACLU oftentimes doesn't pick its battles well and sometimes goes too far, but they've also done a helluva lot of good, which would take a day to list. Then again if you'd like to throw out the baby with the bathwater, it's your right as well. (edited because spellcheck failed me)

Since she gives it to everyone else, to Dragonluv. I hope you're feeling better. Like I'm in the same boat as Jynxxx. Not that I'm a deadbabe or anything. No, I think my ex's promise to bleed me until I was penniless is about to come true. I should be looking over financial info to make one last grasp at fighting this, but I'm too depressed right now. FOC is impervious to karma.

Who makes the best horror?
the eternal replied to DJ Nocker's topic in Movies, Books, Art, TV, Gaming and Computers
FOX I know how you feel. After seeing the environmental devastation detailed in An Inconvenient Truth, I felt that it met the billing of the "Scariest Movie You'll Ever See" because it foretells hell on earth for our grandchildren. -
Like Pomba's old school's officials can stick it up their asses. Like I should not be on this board and will be off at the end of this post. Like I think I'm well liked at my new job, but the pace is very demanding. Like Ponyo is just like every other Miyazaki film---amazing Like I feel a little bad b/c I think someone left the board b/c of me but at the same time, the spell check button could've solved ALL her problems here and <pardon this rant> How the f*ck do people get through school without learning how to type three words w/o misspelling two of them?????? -------- WARNING -- POLITICAL RANT Like seeing the psychos at town hall meetings remind me of when I was a rabid activist (for the left) and that interrupting a meeting (that people drove miles to get to to hear reasonable debate and answers) IS NOT cool and should NOT warrant praise on cable news networks. I'd be embarrassed if MSNBC had me on years ago and Fox should be ashamed for making nutcases who yell at our elected officials and spray paint swatikas on Congressmen's plackards<---CLICK, into heros. It was inappropriate when I did it, (even though I NEVER did anything so disrespectfull) and it's inappropriate now and if Obama takes away the public option for healthcare b/c of it, that will be a sad day. If he takes it away b/c he felt it was the right thing to do then that's cool. Bottom line, no one should buckle to yelling yahoos, and I'm sick of them being made folk heros by the same people who made fun of the comparatively mild "loony left" activists a few years back -------- Like it's very frustrating seeing people in terrible relationships that have no idea what's ahead. I was there and I'll never go back. Like I'm very lucky to have bean. Hope everyone's been well since I've posted last Take care all

The Dgn Country(ish) Music Appreciation Thread...
the eternal replied to Msterbeau's topic in Music Discussion
Pulp Fiction has one of the best soundtracks I normally hate the country-ish sounding songs (as opposed to people like Cash or, WIllie Nelson, or Emmylou Harris) but I love the simultaneous patheticness and goofiness of this track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2qAZXHROz8&feature=related Here's another. It's one of the first songs I ever got into. Another cheesy classic I love the guy that does the oom papa mow mow. He sounds a bit like Barry White and has my old hair style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1DzlRvd0C4&feature=related
