I hope you went online to sell them then. Most of DGNers are poor. The Pixies are awesome btw! I would love to see them in concert. But if I paid $150 for a concert, bean would ask me 'Where is my mind?'

What's the last movie you saw?

Be wary of the conservative (or leftist) who gets excited about fair reporting from the mainstream media. If I want to learn how teachers unions are the source of all evil, I'll just turn on Fox News. (Thank you for the tip though. Instant queue Netflix allowed me to check this out with great ease) Edited to say--- ANYONE that thinks Chernobyl is a feminist is fucking retarded. Yeah I said the word retarded. Now the left and right (see Sarah Palin) can hate me. Anyone with a brain knows that Chernobyl is a radiation-filled man machine who with her Cyborg partner Pest wreaks havoc on civilization. Which begs the question, can one still love early Mel Gibson like Road Warrior and Mad Max as it was before he became a psychotic douchebag? -

Honestly, I have to check out your imdb list again. I should've just copied into a word doc. I just remember your love of the turtles making me giggle. There were some other craptastic sets mingled in with some good shit. Just read up on Flame and Citron---looks fucking awesome! All these people say, although contemporary, it has a noir look to it. Love old film noir--need to see more of it. Also own Inland Empire, as well as Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, Mullholland Drive, Eraserhead, and I'm sure others I can't think of right now. Lynch is great being weird but also good at playing it straight (Elephant Man, Straight Story) He's a genius, when he feels like doing something. Everyone should try to get into Lynch at some point. -

I think it's fun, fun, fun, fun. PLUS, I'm so glad she taught me that after Friday comes Saturday, and after Saturday comes Sunday. As the Pixies would say, IT'S EDUCATIONAL! -

Tarantino has his detractors. People have complained his movies are too talky. I think dialogue is great, as long as it's interesting. Perhaps your attention span is too short. Between--- Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, True Romance (written by him), Jackie Brown (his most maligned for being talky) the Kill Bills and Basterds, I think everything he's done is fantastic. Of course it's no TMNT, but hey -
They could Anyone can sign up. They'd (as in anyone) probably be asked a couple questions, just to make sure it's a real band. Koffin kats'd be awesome to see again

What's the last movie you saw?

WOW! Both movies are so awesome. Audition is maybe the most intense horror movie that ANYONE I know can watch. It's so artfully done. The ending is so wrong though. You know what else is wrong, putting down Inglorious Basterds. That movie is fantastic. Watched Near Dark for the first time in 20 yrs. Didnt hold up as well as I remember. Still like it a lot. Bill Paxton is great in it. Oh, and the LAST LIONS, brand new natl geographic film on lions dying out toward extinction. Actually that was the backdrop, it was really about a specific pride. Uplifting and sad at the same time. The mother lion was so strong fighrting for her cubs, but WTF, letting buffalo hobble your little girl in the night? And then leave her alone defenseless? IF you like animals, you will never see better footage of lions in your life. -
No problem. Went last night. It was pretty awesome. After going to CC so much you'd think no one knew how to play an instrument. There was this 'Jumpin Blues' band. The guitarist was absolutely amazing! It reminded me that most rock and roll started with blues and that in the 80s a lot of dark music was called goth ROCK. Reading interviews from bands people think of in electronic terms like Smiths, New Order, Depeche mode and they'd actually talk about playing the guitar. Even dream pop like Cocteau twins was created BY guitars. GOOD TIMES. Anyway, I found out each night is dedicated to a different group of people. Last night I gave money to Community Living Services, which helps developmentally disabled people live independently. Monday is Autism. I didn't ask about which night GMHA is though (Goth Makeup Hair Assistance, an unreliable yet dedicated group who give unemployed goths the money they need to for hairfalls and eyeliner)

I talked to AJ and he said he was game. I see the Ferndale crowd liking Mean Salley's band a bit more, because it involves tribal drums, but anything would be acceptable to get on the bill.

http://www.assemblylineconcerts.com/schedule.html The link takes you to a list of Detroit bands playing. What's missing? YOU! AJ'S MUSIC CAFE 240 W. 9 Mile Rd. Ferndale, MI 48220 248•399 • 3946 AJ'S is trying to break the Guiness Book of World Records for LONGEST CONCERT EVER! AND IT'S FREE! It's ALSO a benefit concert for the people of Detroit. There are still plenty of spots open. I have non-DGN musicians I'm going to support BUT I WANT YOU! If I was in a local music group, I'd want to do this. It's a way to get your music out to people who wouldn't normally hear it BUT would be totally open to ANYTHING because the AJs crowd is pretty pumped to help out Detroit. I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I just think it's awesome that for 3 years in a row, AJ ONeil has stood up for Detroit's people and the auto industry here. TO GET YOUR BAND ON THE LIST click http://www.assemblylineconcerts.com/schedule.html find an open spot then go to AJs or call 248•399 • 3946

I'm going to Assembly Line III at AJ's Cafe in Ferndale. They're going for the Guiness Book of World Record for longest continuous concert. It's FREE but it's also a benefit for Detroit and non-profits that pump money back in the D. I think it's mostly blues tonight, but I like all kinds of music. If it's good, I'm good with it. SERIOUSLY THOUGH aren't there local bands/artists who would like extra exposure and show solidarity with Detroit? --DKonstruct --Servitor Sanctum 7

Chernobyl was talking about Manfast at our Bad Movie Night last week and I was finally like Oh shit! I'm still fat. Now many of you will disagree, but the BMI calculator called me Obese. Not anymore! I started calorie reduction Monday and I have lost 6 lbs in 5 days. I am now officially merely Overweight. I will continue until I reach my 1st goal--30 lbs. Then I'll reassess. PS. Cardio was good today.

2 things-- Anyone notice that dark red spot on the lower east coast of Michigan. Oh yeah. Diabetes? Detroit's got it! Imported from America. Also, the Bible belt is just a term for some of the Southern states. It's a term of pride there, as in they like Christianity, and it's an easy way to summarize those states. Old Jews talk about the "Borscht Belt" which is where all the Jewish comics would entertain in New York before they got big.

You want me to really make your head explode? I'm considering seeing Antichrist. I have no desire to see a woman cut out her own clit, BUT I love Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, and Dogville. Lars Von Trier is a special kind of fucked up. He walks the line in all of his movies between woman-hating misogynist\ and a man who truly sympathizes and identifies with a woman's plight. Anyway, those three movies are more emotionally gripping and demoralizing. I've been told Antichrist is all kinds of crazy physically. And I'm not exactly a member of the D'Amato/Fulci fan club. We'll see. ---------------------------------- Just saw My Bloody Valentine (1981) with friends. Expected MUCH more. It was dull. -

Awwww. This is so sweet. Our first fight. If we were dating, we could kiss and make up. It's funny the way words can take on different meanings on a page. "So I think you inflected more of your own emotions than any emotional undertones I may have placed in the post" Ummm...no. Not at all. You really couldn't be more off. I call em like I see em. In this case I may have been wrong. So be it. I for one LIKE derailments now and again. They used to be fun! Things would get serious. People would derail it and then it would get back on track. Besides, we're the only ones that have something to say on this topic. No one else is jumping in. As a bonus, we got to discuss ANOTHER movie--Let Me In It's two posts in one! I have to admit I did like when you posted "If I were offended, you'd know about it" All I could think of was this. OH SNAP! Talking about the way words appear on the page, you took my words REALLY STRONGLY. I half-heartedly criticize you and THEN slam myself for being condescending and you threaten to leave the board (except for staff chat) Wow! Alrighty then. I had a smile on my face when I made my original post. Hell I've been TEN TIMES as mean to Nocker and he never reacts like that. (Damn you Nocker, how am I supposed to hate you when you're being so damn nice to me?) "I apologize if you took my post to be offensive." But I didn't. I said I probably offended you. Everyone loves you so much, (I'm being serious here) you must not be used to getting criticism are you?. Nocker and I get it so much, we're old pros. Honestly, if I had ANY idea how you'd react, I wouldn't have posted a half-hearted criticism. "If you've read any reviews on people who actually read the book" Umm, no offense, but why the hell would I read any reviews ON people who read the book. Why would anyone critique book readers? And why would I give a shit about them anyway? Anyway, the original movie was very ambiguous when it came to that theme. It would be very easy to draw the conclusion you mentioned. I guess I liked then this new take on it. It makes it more tragic. He's not a disgusting pedophile in this version. (Not that it was explicit in the original movie) He's someone being scorned for the new younger model. It adds a twist. Both character developments for the caregiver are interesting in their own ways. -

That was how i felt about human centipede. I expected to be half covering my eyes, but I didn't. The best part was the lead actor. He was fantastic. We saw Importance of Being Earnest. It was light and fun. Wait, no. Last movie we saw was Harry Potter at the cheap theatre (love that place). So many great actors. It was good. I hope the finale isn't a letdown this summer. -
I meant to say this earlier---good to see Burrich around. I think he posts more now than he did the first time around. Also I had a great time playing games with my friends.

Hunhee-- I want to say you were condescending about figuring out the caregiver in Let Me In but-- A. I can tell I offended you by talking about how you felt about the movie. B. I've been pretty condescending myself, so I'd be quite the hypocrite to critize you. I don't think the original movie's title spells it out, but I can see how you'd pick up on it. As far as Drag Me To Hell, I like over-the-top horror comedies like Dead Alive and Evil Dead 2 and felt it fit right in. Machete was a lot of fun, because it pushed the grindhouse theme to such silly proportions. Maybe, like the grammys, the Academy Awards should have genre awards. There's a best animated film, which is fucking retarded, because it's always a Pixar movie anyway. They should have a best horror film. Best exploitation. Best film made under $10 million. Even $1 million. El Mariachi and Clerks were made for less than my credit card debt. Imagine all the others whose directors didn't go on to fame and fortune like Smith and Rodriguez. I think one thing I like about critics and awards is that they can give exposure and legitimacy to directors that deserve it. But only if they're recognized in the first place. Then, MAYBE THEN, this man can finally get the respect he so richly deserves. -

Gobble gobble Motherfucker! PM me your IMDB List I love Terry Gilliam! (At least from what I've seen) Brazil is one of my Top 10 movies. If anyone's reading this and has NOT seen Brazil, go rent it now. Hunhee, I'm sure you've seen it, but I still recommend asking for Brazil when you call Thomas Video. It'll be a much better evening. OK, since I'm not on the board as much as I'd like to, I missed the Franklyn thread. That said, despite your love for all things movies, you don't seem to be fixated on "horror, exploitation, and arthouse" you seem constantly to get excited about torture porn/rapesploitation. Irreversible/Serbian Film/Grave, etc. You even started a thread, which I still can't be sure if you were just trying to shock everyone, which talked about sexy horror films. Now there would be some great examples like the Hunger or Angel Heart (even though those are kind of horror lite) And you picked an actual good movie, but a really fucking disturbing movie. The woman would cut off pieces of her skin. I can't remember the name off-hand, but it was the kind of movie that NO ONE finds erotic. They may like it, and say "Whoa that's fucked up" but not get turned on. I always think about what I write, and how people may perceive it. The way you write, it really seems like you get a hard-on every time a rape or disturbing shit comes on. It's very simple. Rape IS worse than death. WAYYY worse. Death is natural. Violating someone. Taking away their core. Their innocence. Their self-direction. Autonomy. and emotionally scarring them with something haunting they will never forget... is a LOT worse than dying. You're dead. WTF do you care? I find this a lot harder for other men to understand than women for some reason. Except Cher "Ayn Rand" nobyl. but that's because she's 1/2 woman 1/2 fearless Cyborg ----------------- Let Me In-- I get that we don't need to be told everything. In fact, that's why crime movies or pay cable shows are almost always better than shows on reg TV. CSI, NCIS spell EVERYTHING out. They spend so much time explaining, there's less time for buildup and excitement. That approach would have killed The Dragon Tattoo movies or Dexter. That said, if you don't know enough about characters, you often don't care as much about them. I felt that fleshing out the caregiver, deepened my appreciation for him and the acid he dumped on his face. I love movies that make me feel something. There's a difference between being spelled out and being given enough development to give a shit. That was the problem with Lost Highway. I love David Lynch, but there's a reason why Mullholland Drive, a fucked-up dream-like ball of confusion connected with audiences and LH didn't. I love Eraserhead, which creates more questions than answers, but I care about the guy. The freak of a baby. The lady in the radiator. I could go on. Now THAT is what I'd call the textbook definition of an art film. Here's the two clichés I set up in my post. The part about liking the added depth (Cliché #1 Don't explain I can think for myself) The part about reviews (Cliché #2 I don't read reviews I like what I like) These clichés are ever more present on this board because this board and alternative/goth culture in general has a very libertarian viewpoint of "Hey this is me I do what I want independently and don't need to be told otherwise" I LOVE METACRITIC (metacritic.com) Here's why. I don't just look at the scores. I look at WHY the critics liked/disliked it. OFTEN times I'll see a movie they don't like because their review said things that make me want to see the movie. The other thing is movie critics see movies all the time, so they usually reward fresh movies. Movies that bring something not seen in awhile. The SAW movies, guilty pleasure flicks at best, are all hits (except among critics) Let me In and Drag Me To Hell TOTAL fucking box office bombs. You know what? They were right! Those are two of the best movies to come out in the past couple years. They're fun. They have great acting, interesting plots, and I wanted to see more when it was done. I don't always want that. Sometimes I just want sit down with some popcorn and watch Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter take out a clown car overflowing with radical atheists. But the critics, although I don't always like what they say, can really inform.(w/o telling you the entire fucking movie, the way Wikipedia entries always do.) -------------------- Final note: Everyone tells me you're a cool guy to be around and I look forward to reading your IMDB list and seeing you at Industrial Night, but I still can't tell if you love rape or the shock value it produces. -
I'm there now. I need a nap, but I wanted to respond to a couple things, neither of them are this thread. 'Cause I can tell You know what it's like The long farewell of the hunger strike --------------- Meg needs to not be hard on herself.

beanternal will try to get out there. It's tough with her late at school that night, but if we all commit to going, (maybe the opener?) I may be able to convince her. And yes, finding something newer than Fun With Knives we could respect will be good too!
