Actually something is being done about it. But remember, the people who made DGN were opposed to both the threadjacking that goes on here and they were opposed to having a DGN chat room. As you already know, Scary Guy.

This was a decent thread until the usual threadjack. DGN is not a chat room, you know. It's in the TOS. It used to be enforced, too bad the only people who can do something about it are gone.

I don't care what you do. If you want to call yourself goth, more power to you.

Maybe that is Joey Deadcat's problem with the word 'goth' as it is defined by many people today. Alot of the futurepop stuff they play at the goth clubs really isn't all that dark. You really can't deny that the music they play at the clubs now is anything like what a goth club would have played in the 1980's. It's not that the scene has evolved because the dance music now is almost completely unrelated to "goth" music of the past. I don't think he is saying one thing is better than the other, I think he is just saying the music today is not goth. He is pretty much right. However, other than the kids at city club, no one calls that stuff goth. The artist don't. The people who go out and buy all the CD's don't. I don't really have a problem with what he is saying because he's technicly right. Goth is not a state of mind, goth is not enjoying the dark things in life. Goth is a movement that grew out of the punk movement, started in the Uk by bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees. Joey Deadcat is hardly the only one to have this viewpoint, not only has this been debated here on DGN, most people around in the 1980's have a disdain for what they see as the mislabeling of "goth". From wikipedia: "Gothic rock was originally clearly differentiated from industrial and heavy metal by older participants in the alternative scene, but newcomers and media misconceptions blurred the boundaries in the nineties as gothic rock became significantly less popular in the US and UK. Thus while Industrial metal-influenced or heavy metal bands such as Marilyn Manson, Jack Off Jill, Type O Negative, Lacuna Coil, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Slipknot were often labeled as "goth" by the media, this categorization was strongly resisted by longstanding goths. Even more confusion was added with the rise of gothic metal, with such bands consciously using gothic imagery from the dark ages in their own music and appearance and started even following fashion trends indistinguishable from older goth ones. Arguments about which music is and is not goth became an ever more significant part of how the subculture tried to define itself. The other significant development of the nineties was the popularity of electronic dance bands such as VNV Nation and Covenant in the goth scene. The rise of what has been called cybergoth music and style, which has much in common with techno/synthpop, caused bitter divisions between its fans and those firmly attached to the analog and/or guitar based sound of gothic rock. Bands with a darkwave sound or those such as The Crüxshadows, which combine an electronic and gothic rock sound, appeal to both sides to some extent."

Actually that is a goth trait. As much as people like to say they are non-judgemental look at how much people on DGN make fun of EMO and "tourists" at City Club and "jocks".

I am well familair with the March Violets and Sex Gang Children and 45 Grave and Projekt records and early 4AD (old wolfgang press for example). But it's like, that music didn't really age well. That's why goth clubs don't play it anymore. Hell even Clan of Xymox is incoporating futurepop into their goth blend these days. But overall I agree with you. I'm not a graver or a goth (I'm too old to care) but I'm well aware that Assemblage23 has nothing in common whatsoever with Bauhaus or Joy Division or even Love Spirals Downward. Unfortunately (for you, I don't really care) is that people call it all goth now. What can you do really? By the way, did you like the march violets when they got a new female singer? I would imagine you like their earlier, darker stuff. How about the Damned? Virgin Prunes?

I shop at hot topic and listen to She Wants Revenge. What else could I do to be goth?

well today was the worst. day. ever. When I woke up today my boss called me and told me I was fired because I used the ladies room instead of the mens room yesterday. But the door to the mens room is very hard to open and I have a bad pinkie which makes it hard to open the door. Ok I admit I did open the stall door of someone in full pee, but I had no idea someone was using the stall. Ok I did sit down on top of her, but my knees are bad and I needed somewhere to sit immediately or I was liable to fall over. Ok fine, I did go poo poo on her lap but I can not help it, someone slipped a laxative into my cereal this morning. I go home and find the repo man waiting for me, he claims I have not made a car payment in 6 months. Well that's a lie. I mailed him an IOU slip every month. That proves I intend to pay him. Then I go home and found that my pet hamster hung himself. He scratched a note in the bedding that said "I would rather be dead than live with you". It hurts because my mom used to tell me that all the time. Anyway I called the police about the hamster and they arrested me thinking I killed him. I was interrogated for 4 hours and the bad police man made me cry. They told me I was gonna do hard time. Well they finally let me go when they realized I wasn't gonna crack. So I went back home and found my hamster had faked his death because he was throwing a party and there was a banner that said "Ted's in jail for a long long time!". To make matters worse, my hamster was having sex with my mom! I was so depressed so I went to city club but I remembered that city club isn't open til later so i think I will just sit in the parking lot, that way I know I won't be mugged but someone who works at the ramada told me the lot was full. I said "what? the lot is completelt empty and it the club isn't open for another 11 hours!" and they said "sorry, you gotta get here early to park here!" then I noticed the fucking Latex twins peeking their heads around the corner, laughing at me!

I nominate all of Blackmail's posts because they are all funny. If you don't think he is funny then perhpas it is because you don't know funny.

I just wanted you to call me and tell me what was going on. I didn't mean to leave those messages on your voicemail, I am sorry your mailbox is full now, probably because I left 25 messages. When I said I was going to kick your ass for not calling me back, I was joking, like all the messages we leave eachother. I know you won't see this post, at least not until later. Maybe if you read this before we talk, you'll know I was just messing around like usual. I talked to Leslie and she said from the little info she has that you will be alright. Anyway you're still a bastard, not because you didn't call me back, but because you blamed me for the taco bell wrappers in your car and because you still owe me a bean burrito, and because we still have to make our own comic book and because we still have to cohost a local access cable show together showing synthpop and EBM videos. Anyway you're pretty much my best friend these days (along with tracy) so you better make a speedy recovery so I have someone to mess with on my way to the park. It's like Kierkegard all over again.

I've sent you a grand total of ONE pm in my entire life and you posted it publicly TWICE trying to say that I threatened you, which I never did. So after a grand total on ONE message you continue to bring up my name time after time. I do NOT rip on you, I do NOT send you messages or have fake DGN usernames. If you have a problem with the person sending you messages I suggest you privately take it up with them and not bring my name into it continualy. Thank you for your understanding.
