What do you want to be when you grow up?
Destroit replied to Destroit's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
Oh....yeah, might help a bit. -
The French, from what I've been able to gather, are good at three things: A) Complaining about stuff that is trivial B) Running in at the last minute in a war, jumping in on the winning side, then acting all big and tough because "they won the war" when they didn't really do much. C) Coldwave Not going to lie, probably my LEAST favorite country/culture/language in Europe... Deutschland/Britain FTW!

What games are you playing?
Destroit replied to Azeuron's topic in Movies, Books, Art, TV, Gaming and Computers
Timata is probably yearning for a D&D Night at our place again. This would probably start up in January. He is able to DM but would prefer if someone else did it because he's sick of DMing and wants to play. I believe we'd be doing version 4. We live at 9 Mile and Van Dyke. Any serious players out there who might be interested? -
I AM the DJ I will also play your requests faster than it takes CC to play a request (2 years in my case , but lately they've been really good about it actually)

If this were to commense, expect it sometime in late May to early June. It would need to be extensively planned and all people involved would need time to work on material. It also has to do with other events I am either planning or heavily involved with and in the spring we generally tend to have more money because tax returns rule :. As our event roster looks like it may be going (or what would be ideal, imo) Laser Quest: Late Feb - Early March DGN Night (if Raev wants to host at our place, need to call him back, called me yesterday and haven't had time. If you are Raev and reading this, I get off work at 5): Mid March - Early April DGN Roast: Late May - Early June MANFAST: July 8th-10th WHEW...I should be an event planner!

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Destroit replied to Destroit's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
Didn't even realize that I forgot to put my career shit in here. I always wanted to be an actor, writer, musician (lead singer) or a combination of the three. I actually am working on my writing goals and have been penning three novels for a few years. I have been more productive in meeting my goals and have ideas for maybe 2-3 more books as of right now. I also think, and this may be a shot in the dark but what the hell, that if they are intriguing enough they may be made into movies in which I would get to act in them. I used to think I was perfect for playing a particular character from the series I'm writing but think I may be too old now to pull it off (she is 18). With Hollywood magic, though, who knows. There is another character, however, that I would be able to play perfectly and is almost 30 in the first book. Music is something I still plan to do when I have more time (out of college in two semesters) and have much in mind for it. I don't ever really plan to get "famous" from the music I make, but if I can get the gears in people's heads turning and get across what I'd like to say, then that will probably be enough for me. As of right now, our more realistic career choices are bond retrieval and private security. We were originally going to be police but figured that this choice was not as suited for us as we are the types who work well together (usually couples cannot work in the same dept.), are not privy to uniforms, work better without authority, and are self-starters. I also would feel bad having to arrest people for trivial shit, such as marijuana. As a cop too, so many people dislike you, the pay is also VERY low compared to being a bond retrieval agent or personnel in the private security sector (both make usually 2-3 times what officers make, have much less liability, and do not have to have guns that are regulated to the point where they are ineffective against the weapons most criminals carry). Also, we would be almost impervious to being sued. As a disclaimer, if one person asks "Like Dog the Bounty Hunter?" I will virtual-slap you . He has no right being the in field as an ex-felon, his show caused the field to be FLOODED with people who can't hack it or don't know what they're doing, and he's pretty much made a circus out of the whole thing. Actually respected bond retrieval agents DON'T generally look up to the guy for good reason and we tend to believe his show does more harm than good for the field. -

Isn't Dir. of Photography (sorry, I can't type out "DP" without incessantly giggling) something that requires maybe some credentials like a degree in photography perhaps? Just trying to figure out why you wouldn't be able to at this time. -
FUCK MY HOUSE, LET'S DO IT! This time people can't get pissed off at me for eating all the food on the table in a matter of a few hours. We might have issues with partying, dancing, listening to loud music and drinking though .
-
Soooo...all votes for Chernobyl's house. If we were to do it like that, we would probably have a $5 donation. This would go to cover the cost of the party (mainly the alcohol) and any of the money left over would be donated directly to DGN's coffer. Would have to talk this over with the boyfriend however. So it would be a party that would be cheaper for people than CC (even though CC DGN Nights gave discounted cover, there were no discounts on drinks). I like how with CC you can be Joe-Schmoe-Preppy-Ass, walk in there saying it's your b-day, and get you and an assload of your friends in for FREE and discounted drinks...but on DGN night all we got was a reduced admission and no drink price reductions...? So CC took our money, didn't give us any discounts, didn't give BACK to the community (sorry, making mods babysit the stage so other people couldn't get up to an area that is usually fully accessible is NOT really "giving back") and they "appreciate" us? You know I <3 almost all you like you were my childrens, have been a dedicated and active member of the mod staff, and would most likely be giving money BACK to DGN directly in the form of cash for this party. It would be like Devil's Night also where people could BYOB, and if you brought anything in the form of cans/bottles, I would take them back to Meijer and give the return money to DGN also. The donation part would be contingent on attendance though. Like I said, would take only what money is necessary to break even on the party, anything over that I would most likely give back to the board. I only wish I knew how much money CC pays Marvin each weekend. I could imagine it now: "Hey Marvin, you know how CC pays you ________ every weekend? I will double that if you bartend our party..."

ROFL. We're actually entertaining the idea now that people are actually voting for it .
-
Also, if we are doing this at some place that is NOT CC, we have to make sure it has actually has a sizable amount of DGNers that go there regularly. I can't believe CC has hoed us so bad...I almost want to reinstate my boycott on the place. It's fucking ridiculous. I'm still wondering why anyone goes there, but that's aside from the point. Basically, CC has indirectly told us through their inaction that they DON'T appreciate us or our business. I will probably take my clubbing elsewhere, if anywhere, or just attend events. Maybe Necto? I've never been there and there is a certain person that helps to run the place that I, and many others, cannot stand. Honestly, it's the only place I can even think of that would qualify. Or MAYBE the "Appreciation" part of the title could insinuate members that appreciate DGN and not necessarily a specific club appreciating us?
-
My house: better sound system, more space, more goth, and I appreciate every DGNer far more than CC ever has. I'm kidding, I'm sure it has to be at an actual establishment .

UNofficial DGN Thanksgiving 2010
Destroit replied to the eternal's topic in Nightlife, Events & Concerts
Pestilence hinted that he is going to make a meal and it will be the best thing anyone has ever eaten that mainly only involves one food group. Be fucking afraid. -
That's cool, I will keep that in mind. I'll probably hit up the machines for a few months (with free-weights intertwined) and then ween myself off of them. I like how at Bally's if you need a spotter you can ask any PT and they'll do it for free.
-
That's a BIT different than being just a dietitian or PT .

A question about the appreciation nights and events
Destroit replied to Raev's topic in Quizzes And Polls
Can't say I'm surprised in the least. Exactly the type of loyalty I've come to expect from CC. If R.I.P. did not start up, my boycott would still be in effect. I HATE having to go there, but if it's to support R.I.P. I will (and actually have fun because that crowd tends to be more mature/old-school, like a Deadline crowd almost). -
But, if it's in my PM box then it's not outing No, I've just been trying to rack my brain and figure out who it is because between what you and The Gimp have stated, there is no one meeting the given description who is on this board, hence why it's bothering me . Pretty + Funny + Older + Smart + Bootfetish = Does Not Compute With My Mental Directory

Now I'm curious, do tell who this is, even if you must PM me with it .

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Destroit replied to Destroit's topic in Relationships, Pets & Domestic Homelife
You don't even have to pay anyone, just live in Warren. -
Did not know this. I knew the part about the ROM, but thought that if you did both free-weights AND machines that it would take care of this problem. So...after awhile of being back into the swing, sub out machines for just free-weights?

Dieticians and personal trainers are not highly qualified individuals. I can actually get certified as a PT in under 6 months. Dieticians, while a little more qualified, are not as educated as doctors usually and have courses that are usually more nutrition oriented and not A&P/Microbiology, and do not cover the range that they do. I believe that even RNs are required to be further educated than dieticians, and that's a 2 year program (at least this was true the last I checked into it, I was originally going to be a nurse but decided against it). I was surprised though that they did not know this because I learned that high protein is bad for your kidneys in Anatomy & Physiology AND Nutrition, they showed us the study on it and shit to do with nephron physiology, maybe I can dig up some of my old stuff or ask one of the professors? The gist of it though (and even written out it makes sense): Amino acids broken down are turned into building blocks (and other usable stuff) and the waste of it is literally ammonia and small amounts of other by-products. Your body can only handle a certain amount of protein at one time, more protein than it needs and the protein is then stored as fat OR dumped out into your bloodstream as urea (which includes the Windex ). This is then pushed through your nephrons and over-time, it kills them. It also does damage to your liver, but usually kidneys are the hardest hit. This is the reason most of the athletes from back in the day that somehow DIDN'T die are on dialysis for the rest of their lives. But this weekend I will try to find legitimate direct sources that you can view yourself. I was shown the studies awhile ago and saw them with my own eyes, but I can understand the skepticism on your behalf. Since so many people either exaggerate the truth or make shit up now-a-days I understand the "papers or it isn't true" rhetoric.

We end up knowing so much about our fellow DGN folk, but I can honestly say I have no idea what most of you do for a living (or are aspiring to be). You don't have to get personal and say where exactly it is you work, how about just what it is you do? Also, if you don't plan on having your current job for the rest of your working days, what is it you are wanting to go into? When you were a little kid (just for shits and giggles) what did you see yourself doing for a career as a grown-up? Just thought it would be a fun topic, not sure if it has been done before (or at least recently). You can learn (sometimes, not always) a lot about a person's personality by what profession they choose, so it's almost another get-to-know-you kinda thread. Who knows? You might find other people on here either already established in your desired field of work or maybe up-and-coming so that you are able to network. Could be beneficial in the long run.

First paragraph hits in right on. My golden rule is to get at LEAST 30 minutes of cardio in at LEAST five days a week. I'm just now getting back into getting serious about weight loss and tone, especially because the profession that I'm going into absolutely requires me to be A) He-Man and B) Intimidating. One hour isn't hard to do if you're doing your whole body at one time, which I used to. Pestilence still does this. I DON'T for several reasons, usually time and I end up losing motivation after a minute. Also, I don't like for my WHOLE body to be jacked up the next day. This is how I do it: The goal, imo, of effective weight training should combine variety, such as free weights vs machines and High Reps / Low Weight (goes good with tone, chiseling, stamina, etc) and Low Reps / High Weight. Also trying to NOT kill myself while getting an effective workout is key. Day 1: Arms (when I say "arms", I don't mean JUST arms, but any muscle groups associated with arm movements like pec-dec, deltoids, trapezius, etc) ~ Machines ~ Low Reps, High Weight Load Day 2: Core (Lower back, upper ass, mid back, ab/back obliques, abs, etc) ~ Machines (SOME free weights no matter what because my gym doesn't have a machine for ALL these groups, so I make due) ~ Low Reps, High Weight Load Day 3: Legs (Quads, hamstring, soleus, gastrocnemius (rofl, sp?), calves, lower ass) ~ Machines ~ Low Reps, High Weight Load Days 4, 5, 6: Same as above except on free weights instead of machines Days 7, 8, 9: Same order of groups and on machines except now doing high reps with a low weight load. Days 10, 11, 12: Same order of groups, but doing free weights with high rep counts and a low weight load. Repeat. I find it the best for my goals, time, and motivation. I try atm to do as much intense cardio as I can because I'm trying to drop all my weight. THIS time, however, I'm smart enough to do WT all along and get big into it so I don't look like a saggy baggy sullen sunken in elephant when my lbs are gone. This regimen allows for both free weights/machines and HR,LW/LR,HW, so basically chiseledness/tone/"long"-looking-yoga-type-muscles (free weights and HR,LW) and machines/LR,HW are what gives them strength and bulk. Doing a different core group everyday makes it so I'm not walking around 100% pissed off in soreness the following day, but rather 33.33% pissed off. It also keeps it "fresh" for me and makes it easier to stay motivated and actually follow through with my fitness goals. I've had two fitness classes at the college, based from what I've learned, this seems like a sound enough regimen. If anyone has input, questions, or wants to add any tips though, I'm open. I know a decent amount about weight training, but know much more in nutrition and took much more rigorous upper-level biology courses regarding nutrition and how the entire human body works on a molecular level.
