No, not the specific unit. I do know that he was in Patton's 3rd army from North Africa to the end of the war also. He had an above average IQ and so they had him be a medic, which he explained, most likely saved his life due to not being on the front lines (many of his buddies, well MOST of his buddies he left with did not come back). I have yet to read his memoirs, he died when I was in high school but it would still be painful for me to read. His name was James Smith. I will have to ask my grammy more about it.
Wouldn't that just be nuts if you're grampa and mine were in the same unit at the same time? Clearly they are both badasses, I can tell you that. But the fact that he smuggled a grenade back with him, which to this day is in my gramma's attic should say enough about the guy .
