Being raised by a mom.
Kid comes home from school. Drops backpack on floor and sighs heavily.
Mom: "What's wrong? Did you have a bad day at school?"
They sit down and talk about it over milk and cookies. They reach a solution and the child feels better.
Being raised by aunt.
Kid comes home from school. Drops backpack on the floor and sighs heavily.
Aunt (stretched out on the sofa, wearing an oversized t-shirt hanging off one shoulder, bare feet kicked up on a stack of throw pillows while staring at the TV): "S'up?"
She then proceeds to pretend to listen to you while suppressing the urge to turn up the volume. Nodding every now and then at what appears to be appropriate breaks in the conversation. Kid is so self involved in their recitation they fail to notice and eventually walks away feeling vindicated. Aunt notices kid is missing and continues watching TV.

Just a little silliness. I do look up.
