Songs That Make You Think of Someone

My great grandfather and I were very close. He died in 96 and I have missed him dearly. My cousin used to produce music videos in the 80s. He did work for Debbie Gibson and the like. Anyway, when my GG died he made a video of his life from pics taken in the early 1900s (he was born in 1900) up until he died and he played this song. Every time I hear it I cannot help but feel like my GG is hugging me. My mom says the same thing. I have decided to post the lyrics and share my memory. If anyone else has a memory I think it would be neat to see and read the lyrics. Here it goes:

What a wonderful world

I see trees of green, red roses too

I see them bloom from me and you

But I think to myself what a wonderful world (yeah)

I see skies of blue, clouds of white

bright blessed days, dark sacred nights

but i think to myself what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow so pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces of people passing by

I see friends shakin' hands saying "How do you do?"

They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow

They'll learn much more than I'll never know

But I think to myself what a wonderful world

I think to myself what a wonderful world

Hey, yeah, wonderful, wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow so pretty in the sky

Are also on the faces of people passing by

I see friends shakin' hands saying "How do you do?"

They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow

They'll learn much more than I'll never know

But I think to myself what a wonderful world

I think to myself what a wonderful world

Hey, yeah, wonderful, wonderful world

when my grandma died she wanted them to play john lennon's imagine at her funeral. and honestly i don't think they did. i can't remember cuz it was one of those things that was too unreal to really remember.

so i made it my wedding song when i got married years later. and when we were dancing to it i imagined she was there too at my wedding watching us.

john lennon - imagine

Imagine there's no heaven,

It's easy if you try,

No hell below us,

Above us only sky,

Imagine all the people

living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,

It isnt hard to do,

Nothing to kill or die for,

No religion too,

Imagine all the people

living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,

I wonder if you can,

No need for greed or hunger,

A brotherhood of man,

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,

but Im not the only one,

I hope some day you'll join us,

And the world will live as one.

this one just makes me think just about most anything in life. not really one certain person.

my dad also read it at my grandma's funeral. it was a reminder to me that everything that happens - has to happen. it helped me deal with some things better than i normally may have. not that i handle things like death all that well to begin with.

the byrds- turn, turn, turn

To everything, turn, turn, turn.

There is a season, turn, turn, turn.

And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to be born, a time to die.

A time to plant, a time to reap.

A time to kill, a time to heal.

A time to laugh, a time to weep.

To everything, turn, turn, turn.

There is a season, turn, turn, turn.

And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to build up, a time to break down.

A time to dance, a time to mourn.

A time to cast away stones.

A time to gather stones together.

To everything, turn, turn, turn.

There is a season, turn, turn, turn.

And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time of love, a time of hate.

A time of war, a time of peace.

A time you may embrace.

A time to refrain from embracing.

To everything, turn, turn, turn.

There is a season, turn, turn, turn.

And a time to every purpose under heaven.

A time to gain, a time to lose.

A time to rend, a time to sow.

A time for love, a time for hate.

A time for peace, I swear it's not too late.

Four years ago, when Wayne first found out he had cancer, we weren't together. We had broken up a month or so before. He called me to tell me that he had it, and the only song I could hear was Dido's "Here With Me".

He thinks of me every time he hears "Angel" by Sara McLachlan. I've sung it to him many times, including at our wedding.

This was mine and my baby's dad's song...cheesy and rap...but he is a thug...lol

Everytime I hear it my blood runs cold. They play it at work all of the time...

Artist: Fabolous

Album: Into You (Remix) 12"

Title: Into You (Remix)

feat. Tamia

[intro - Tamia]

I think you're truly something special (Ooooh)

Just what my dream are really made of (Dreams are really made of)

Let's stay together you and me boy (Ooo-ooo-ooh)

There's no one like you 'round, oh baby

Oh, I wanna love you, yeah yeah

[Fabolous] + (Tamia)

Uh, baby girl (Yeah, yeah)

Uh, uh, (Ooh)

Desert Storm, uh (Ooo-ooh)

Uh, uh huh, uh, uh huh, uh (Ooo-ooh)

Yeah, yeah, oh, uh

[Verse 1 - Fabolous]

I can't really explain it

I'm so into you now, I want to be more than a friend of you now

When they ask, I mention my baby girl in the interviews now

And I don't bring the problems from the 90's into 2 thou'

There's no reason to have a friend or two now

'Cause the kid's ready to tell you how he feel in a few vow's

Maybe, I'm speaking general now

But girl I'ma do whatever just to keep a grin on you now

Where I go, they wear bikini's in the winter too now

What you think about, tan lines on the skin of you now

Why wouldn't I wanna spend a few thou'

On 5th Ave. shopping spree's, and them dinners to Chao's

I ain't concerned what other men would do now

As long as when I slide up in you, you growl

And any dude with you, he better be a kin of you now

And I ain't jealous it's the principle now, I'm so into you

[Chorus x2 - Tamia]

I, really like

What you've, done to me

I can't really explain it

I'm, so into you

[Verse 2 - Fabolous]

Come on ma, it's more than a flashin'

I woulda traded it all, in orderly fashion

My villa in Florida we crashin'

Just off the shore, so you can hear when water be splashin'

The drop top three and a quarter we dashin'

The flawless diamonds, and the border we flashin'

The money, we oughta be stashin'

I make sure every quarter be cashed in, I can't really explain it

My friend be thinkin' I'm slippin', these girls be thinkin' I'm trippin'

What kinda weed he be smokin', what type of drinks he be sippin'

Sweet thing, just to think of you dippin'

Would have me with the blue's so hard, you would think I was crippin'

Now, you relaxin' in the Benz, credit cards with no limits

So you don't worry about maxin' when you spend

Ever since you've been askin' 'bout the friends

How'd you like it if, both our name's had Jackson on the ends, uh

[Chorus x2]

[Verse 3 - Fabolous]

I don't wanna trip, but truth is

Girl the way you cook a steak, remind me of those strips in Ruth Chris

You love my smile, no matter how chipped my tooth is

With you, it ain't because my whips is roofless

Or sit on chrome dipped dub deuces

And you ain't flattered by Canary envy es dipped Jesus'

Other ballers look dumb when they press you, five and sixes

You don't let them kinda numbers impress you

Even though I was somewhat successful

Bein' a player was becoming too stressful

But every since, the superwoman has come to my rescue

My winter's been wonderful, my summer's been special

Let's fly to St. Bart, while the villa be painted

Just so we can get really acquainted

The love is real, there's no way it could feel like it's tainted

But I can't really explain it, uh, yeah

[Chorus] x2

[Outro - Tamia]

I, really like (Ooo-ooo-ooh)

What I feel, when I'm with you (With you)

You're a dream come true (You're, oh yeah, yeah)

Don't you ever leave my side (Ever leave my side, oh no)

'Cause it feel so right (Oh baby, oh

genesis- throwing it all away

Need I say I love you

Need I say I care

Need I say that emotion's,

Something we don't share

I don't want to be sitting here

trying to deceive you

Cos you know I know baby

I don't wanna go.

We cannot live together

We cannot live apart

That's the situation

I've known it from the start

Every time that I look at you

I can see the future

Cos you know I know baby

I don't wanna go.

Throwing it all away

Throwing it all away

Is there nothing that I can say

To make you change your mind

I watch the world go round and round

And see mine turning upside down

You're throwing it all away.

Who'll light up the darkness

Who will hold your hand

Who will find you the answers

When you don't understand

Why should I have to be the one

Who has to convince you

Cos you know I know baby

That I don't wanna go.

Some day you'll be sorry

Someday when you're free

Memories will remind you

That our love was meant to be

Late at night when you call my name

The only sound you'll hear

Is the sound of your voice calling

Calling after me.

Just throwing it all away

Throwing it all away

There's nothing I can say

You're throwing it all away

That's All

genesis

Just as I thought it was going alright

I find out I'm wrong, when I thought I was right

s'always the same, it's just a shame, that's all

I could say day, you'd say night

tell it's black when I know that it's white

s'always the same, it's just a shame, that's all

I could leave but I won't go

though my heart might tell me so

I can't feel a thing from my head down to my toes

so why does it always seem to be

me looking at you, you looking at me

s'always the same, it's just a shame, that's all

Turning me on, turning me off

making me feel like I want too much

living with you's just putting me through it all of the time

running around, staying out all night

taking it all instead of taking one bite

living with you's just putting me through it all of the time

I could leave but I won't go

it'd be easier I know

I can't feel a thing from my head down to my toes

but why does it always seem to be

me looking at you, you looking at me

s'always the same, just a shame, that's all

Truth is I love you

more than I wanted to

there's no point in trying to pretend

there's been no-one who

makes me feel like you do

say we'll be together til the end

I could leave but I won't go

it'd be easier I know

I can't feel a thing from my head down to my toes

but why does it always seem to be

me looking at you, you looking at me

s'always the same, just a shame, that's all

Just as I thought it was going alright

I find out I'm wrong when I thought I was right

s'always the same, just a shame, that's all

I could say day, you'd say night

tell me it's black when I know that it's white

s'always the same, it's just a shame, that's all

That's all

"The Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen

Always reminds me of the first woman I ever feel in love with.

under the blue moon i saw you

as soon you'll take me

up in your arms too late to beg you

or cancel it through I know it must be

the killing time

unwillingly mine

(chorus)

fate

up against your will

through the thick and thin

he will wait until

you give yourself to him

in starlit nights i saw you

so cruelly you kissed me

your lips a magic world

your sky all hung with jewels

the killing moon

will come too soon.

(Chorus)

That actually reminded me of an ICP song that reminds me of someone...don't ask it's a long story...

"Under The Moon"

I'm still here under the moon [2x]

[Violent J]

I was just a child but you seemed like so much more

The way you would approach me and drift across the floor

I'd see you in the hall, and you'd kiss me with a smile

I never understood it, was I even worth your while?

The others kids at school, they would hate me and they'd spit

Cuz I was just a no one, to them I wasn't shit

But you would always help me and stand there by my side

We were only seventeen, we'd be together till we died

But then it all happened on the ever dreadful day

Somebody tried to rape you and now I'll make him pay

You pointed him out to me, my thoughts began to race

I took my daddy's forty-five and shot him in the fucking face!!!

I did it all for you, and though I'm facing years

I would do the time just to equal all your tears

The last thing that you told me when I left the courtroom

Is that we'd always be together, cuz we're both under the moon

[Chorus (1x)]

I'll forever love you, even if you're doomed

We'll always be together cuz we're both under the moon

[Violent J]

I sit here in my cell and the walls are made of stone

I justified your pain, but now I sit alone

I write another letter, I write one every day

I never got a letter back, I write em anyway

I try to call collect, your number has been changed

I'm staring at the lightbulb and I start to feel the rage

You never came to visit me, I sit facing the glass

No one's on the other side, now it's in the past

My head is always spinning, I'm pounding at the wall

I feel like I'm forgotten, no sign of you at all

You're probably getting married, you're probably getting fucked

I'll break out of this cage and try to cut that motherfucker up

I curl up in the corner, my body will corrode

My teeth are turning into dust, skin is growing mold

I'm staring at the window of my eternal doom

I know that you are out there, somewhere underneath the moon

[Chorus (1x)]

[Violent J]

Many, many years, many more to go

Does she still remember? God, he only know

I now become a savage, they chain me to a wall

I still can see your body, I still can hear your call

I'm nothing but a maggot, I'm locked away and lost

The world it doesn't want me, my dignity is tossed

And to the girl for whom I feel this doom

Look here, fuck you and the moon

Hey! Fuck you and the moon [5x]

[Chorus (8x)]

I'm still here under the moon

I'm still here under the moon (still under the moon)

Brian sang this in my ear the first time we ever danced together, as the house band butchered it, at the time i had long blonde hair and i was wearing a red dress it was just too perfect. Over the years other parts of the song have mirrored some of our own real life, Last night i was at work and i saw the commercial with eric clapton and the woman in the closet picking out her cloths and i instanly thought of brian.

Wonderful Tonight

by Eric Clapton

It's late in the evening; she's wondering what clothes to wear.

She puts on her make-up and brushes her long blonde hair.

And then she asks me, "Do I look all right?"

And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight."

We go to a party and everyone turns to see

This beautiful lady that's walking around with me.

And then she asks me, "Do you feel all right?"

And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight."

I feel wonderful because I see

The love light in your eyes.

And the wonder of it all

Is that you just don't realize how much I love you.

It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head,

So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed.

And then I tell her, as I turn out the light,

I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight.

Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."

This song came out while Brian and i were dating he had already asked me to marry him once and i declined, because of a long run of crappy men, he stayed, and well stepped up the swonning

I often say we fell in love to depeche mode or atleast i did any how

Depeche Mode › It’s No Good Lyrics

I’m going to take my time

I have all the time in the world

To make you mine

It is written in the stars above

The gods decree

You’ll be right here by my side

Right next to me

You can run but you cannot hide

Don’t say you want me

Don’t say you need me

Don’t say you love me

It’s understood

Don’t say you’re happy

Out there without me

I know you can’t be

’cause it’s no good

I’ll be fine

I’ll be waiting patiently

Till you see the signs

And come running to my open arms

When will you realize

Do we have to wait till our worlds collide

Open up your eyes

You can’t turn back the tide

Don’t say you want me

Don’t say you need me

Don’t say you love me

It’s understood

Don’t say you’re happy

Out there without me

I know you can’t be

’cause it’s no good

I’m going to take my time

I have all the time in the world

To make you mine

It is written in the stars above

Don’t say you want me

Don’t say you need me

Don’t say you love me

One night about 2 years ago, my friend Justin and I were driving back to my house, when we were nearly killed by a huge van that came tearing around a curve. We just happened to be listening to There Is a Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths:

take me out tonight

where there's music and there's people

and they're young and alive

driving in your car

i never never want to go home

because i haven't got one

anymore

take me out tonight

because i want to see people and i

want to see life

driving in your car

oh, please don't drop me home

because it's not my home

it's their home

and i'm welcome no more

and if a double-decker bus

crashes into us

to die by your side

is such a heavenly way to die

and if a ten-ton truck

kills the both of us

to die by your side

well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine

take me out tonight

take me anywhere, i don't care

i don't care, i don't care

and in the darkened underpass

i thought 'oh god, my chance has come at last'

but then a strange fear gripped me and i

just couldn't ask

take me out tonight

oh, take me anywhere, i don't care

i don't care, i don't care

driving in your car

i never never want to go home

because i haven't got one

oh, i haven't got one

and if a double-decker bus

crashes into us

to die by your side

is such a heavenly way to die

and if a ten-ton truck

kills the both of us

to die by your side

well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine

oh, there is a light and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

there is a life and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

there is a life and it never goes out

there is a light and it never goes out

when my husband and i were talking about getting married we were listening to my cars record at his house. and this song came on and now it makes me think of him. and i remind him it wasn't the ribbons in his hair. ;)

I don’t mind you comin’ here

And wastin’ all my time

’cause when you’re standin’ oh so near

I kinda lose my mind

It’s not the perfume that you wear

It’s not the ribbons in your hair

I don’t mind you comin’ here

And wastin’ all my time

I don’t mind you hangin’ out

And talkin’ in your sleep

It doesn’t matter where you’ve been

As long as it was deep, yeah

You always knew to wear it well and

You look so fancy I can tell

I don’t mind you hangin’ out

And talkin’ in your sleep

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to feed

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to bleed

I don’t mind you comin’ here

And wastin’ all my time time

’cause when you’re standin’ oh so near

I kinda lose my mind, yeah

It’s not the perfume that you wear

It’s not the ribbons in your hair

I don’t mind you comin’ here

And wastin’ all my time

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to feed

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to bleed

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to feed

I guess you’re just what I needed

(just what I needed)

I needed someone to bleed

Yeah, yeah, so bleed me

You’re just what I needed

You’re just what I needed

Yeah, you’re just what I needed

Yeah, yeah yeah

Oh, a couple more. When Jon first moved to Michigan, he was living in a little hotel. We had a bit of a spat, and I went home and sulked in bed, thinking about what a jerk he was being. Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" video came on, and I got to crying. Happy ending, though. :)

Also, long story, but while still living in that motel, Jon's motorcycle died, which set off a string of events that might have led to our separation due to him having to move back to Florida. While discussing this, OMD's "If You Leave" came on the radio and it was just too freakin' coincidental & appropriate, and I made him shut the damned radio off.

No way I can hear those songs and not remember those incidents now.

Okay, now I'm feeling all dramatic. The song Smokey by Red House Painters reminds me of someone, who, in the grand scheme of things, was not a very prominent person in my life, but they once included this song on a mix they made me, and I always got the feeling they were trying to tell me something. But of course they never did. People are lame. But anyway, it's my favorite Red House Painters song:

Smokey

I'm broken down

You caved my karma in

I'm staying up

Waiting for you like a fool

You made me forget

About all the dreams I kept

I keep your glass hand

By the bed we slept

I can't erase your smokey eyes

Your smothered face

Gripping on my waist

Leaving a ghost

Upon the Oregon Coast

And on the floors

Of a crashes porch

Who can pretend

That there's a beginning without an end?

It ain't contrived

All this magic in our lives

Comes down like a storm

Then drizzles then dies

Your soul is free

But you're the one I need

And you made your deal

But you're still my ideal

And so I wait

And so I choose this fate

And store your shed

In my electric bed

Who can pretend

That there's a beginning without an end?

It ain't contrived

All the magic in our lives

Comes down like a storm

Then drizzles then dies

my grandma always liked watching that show with dennis miller and it started off with tears for fears everybody wants to rule the world. that song makes me think of her all the time.

when my uncle died smashing pumpkins song drown was out. that makes me think of him.

No matter where you are

I can still hear you when you drown

You’ve traveled very far

Just to see you I’ll come around

When I’m down

All of those yesterdays

Coming around

No matter where you are

I can still hear you when you dream

You traveled very far

You traveled far, like a star

And you are

All of those yesterdays

Coming around

Is it something someone said?

Was it something someone said?

Yesterday the sky was you

And I still feel the same

Nothing left for me to do

And I still feel the same

I wish, I wish I could fly

I wish, I wish I could lie

I will, I will try

I will, I will

these are days makes me think of my girls.

i love to sing it to them.

10000 Maniacs - These Are The Days Lyrics

These are the days you'll remember.

Never before and never since,

I promise,

will the whole world be warm as this.

And as you feel it, you'll know it's true

that you are blessed and lucky.

It's true that you are touched by something

that will grow and bloom in you.

These are the days you'll remember.

When May is rushing over you

with desire to be part of the miracles

you see in every hour.

You'll know it's true

that you are blessed and lucky.

It's true that you are touched by something

that will grow and bloom in you.

These are days.

These are the days you might

fill with laughter until you break.

These days you might

feel a shaft of light make its way

across your face.

And when you do

you'll know how it was meant to be.

See the signs and know their meaning.

It's true, you'll know how it was meant to be.

Hear the signs and know

they're speaking to you, to you.
