Fierce Critter
(Chose to put this here as I thought it might get more looks than in the classifieds forum) I got a $20 Hot Topic gift card for Christmas. I've searched their website, as well as the Torrid one (you can use it there, too), as well as been to the local HT store - twice. I'm just not finding anything I want there anymore. Anyone shop there regularly and want to help me out by buying it off me for face value? I can take PayPal payment, or well-hidden cash by mail, and will send it to you in an envelope and pay the postage to send it to you. I'd rather spend the money on Ebay or even the Salvation Army at this point. I bought a lot from there last year when the same sister got me a gift card. Just can't seem to find anything I want/need this time around.
Ginevra
If you're looking for something in specific, perhaps one of the HT's up this way might have a better selection? Let me know; we can talk
Lilith
hi dear i am only posting to make a suggestion so plzz dont take this any other way then that. the HT stores have other htings besides cloths, i know it might not be what you want but if you are unable to find a buyer or something you want ,perhaps go for the things you need that you might compromise on, like panties, or stockings, or perhaps a winter hat.... I have befor gotten gift certs to places i never shop and well i just went in with the thought if i can spend on things i will need any how at least it is not a waste. Also i am sure if you wait a while you might find something that apeals to you, maybe save it for a rainy day or someting. I dont know just some thought i had. Happy shopping harmony
Hermine
That's a great idea. Hosiery or home accents might be an option. Band t-shirts? They're a lot better in terms of staples than any of their clothes. I had the same problem the last time I had a gift certificate there, and that's what I did with it. Hair dye if you can have an unnatural color? (though they charge nearly twice as much as goodgoth for Special Effects, if it's an otherwise useless gift certificate, it's still an option). For example, where I am, HT is, unfortunately, the only place that has my crocheted tights. When someone gets me a gift certificate there (which happens from time to time) that's what it goes for. But yeah, HT has really started sucking. (lengthy tangent moved to inspired by thread)
Fierce Critter
Ginny - Thanks for the offer. I might take you up on that. : Thanks for the suggestion, L&L. I actually already thought of that. I did look at both HT & Torrid's websites, as well as the local HT store, to see if there were things I could buy beyond dresses/skirts/etc (you can use a HT card on Torrid's website). I am finding things I like - but out of my range pricewise. I don't have the $$ to add much, if anything, to the $20 card. Another problem is size. Both stores have a tendency to run on the "small side" of their given label sizes. Their 2x is more like a 1x or even closer to a size 18, etc. I have made the acquaintance of a Torrid buyer named Kim, and she confirmed that size anomoly for me. She's even gone so far as to offer to take measurements off any item I'm interested in buying so I can be assured it'll actually fit when I get it. I'm kinda tired of having to take that gamble or make that fuss. So when it comes to clothes, I'm not very apt to buy from them, unless I think I'm picking up something that I'd be willing to alter if necessary. Same thing goes for tights, underwear, etc. They sell their panties in sizes like 2/3 and 3/4 - and don't have an explanation of what that means as far as measurements on their size guide. Not that I need any anyway - I just picked up 12 pairs from Fashion Bug recently. So I'm pretty stocked-up. Same thing with tights, socks, etc. I just don't need what I see they have. While I don't mind picking up an item or two from HT here and there, I'm just not crazy about their quality these days. I'm picky about things like jewelry, stockings, etc. and frankly, they just don't measure up. The kinds of things I've picked up there are a purse, some patches, a cats ear headband, etc. Oh, and a pair or two of TUK shoes. The biggest hesitation I'm facing is that I'm hard pressed to pay more than yard sale prices for things, since my "job" actually involves just about "professional" yard sale shopping. My husband and I are so used to being able to say, "will you take $5.00 for that - you're asking $10" that shopping in retail places is almost foreign to us now. The things I see on HT & Torrid's websites are so incredibly overpriced, that even though I can potentially just buy a bunch of small accessories or something with the giftcard and not be "blowing" actual cash, I'm hard-pressed to give in to that kind of obvious overpricing. They have a pair of shoes on the Torrid website that I'd really like, and I've got an e-mail out to Kim to see if she can scrape up a pair in my size. They've only got them left in a 7, and in that pair (I already own them in a different color) I need their 9 (no half sizes, so their 8 is too small). She's been able to do that for me in the past. Unfortunately, she's out until Wednesday, so who knows if she'll be able to help. I will end up just holding on to the card if I don't find someone who'd like to buy it from me, or if Kim can't find me those shoes in my size. Just thought I'd check to see if anyone out there and I could mutually benefit from this situation.
