Kryptonite is not his only weakness.  Magic works against Superman as well.  Also, Doomsday actually KILLED superman.    Most of his enemies are also super-powered aliens - like General Zod in Superman 2 (also in Smallville in the current storyline) or Bizarro, Braniac, Lobo, etc

Superman isn't even in the top 5 most powerful DC characters, the Spectre could feasibly destroy Superman, Superman needed the entire DC Universe to defeat the Anti-Monitor, Same with the Sun Eater - only a psychotic Hal Jordan cum parralax could defeat him,  you could argue that the Green Lantern or possibly the Flash could take Superman as well.

GEEK ALERT!!!

SUPERMEN WAS NEVER KILLED BY DOOMSDAY!!!

In the last knock out punch where be he sent Doomsday into space he went below his functional energy level making him appear to be dead.

Because earth mightiest hero appeared to be dead The entombed him, preventing his solar batteries from recharging.

Its a good thing that the Kryptonian Machine snatched his body to siphon off the energy and pose as Superman because it made a critical error allowing Superman to much light and letting him regain conciseness.

Besides Kryptonite and Magic superman also needs to breath regularly and keep his body temp within a certain range either of these will cause him to go into suspended animation.

Kryptonite can also be synthesized, not cheaply but it renders its scarcity moot.

Actually, Bryan Singer is openly gay and the gay community has really embraced this new movie, in the Advocate they are calling Superman "Queer-El" as his Kryptonian name is Kal-El.      Some of the hardcore fans on the DC boards don't like it though.

I guess that means Lois is out of the picture and her twin brother Lewis is in.

Yes, sort of, I didn't want to complicate things. His heart did stop though.

Yes he was not truly dead. He was entombed by Luthor.

While entombed his body was stolen by cadmus labs. In the months while Superman was gone, 4 other supermans took his place. One was a robot. One was Supermans friend "Steel" who merely donned an "S" as a tribute to Kal-El, one was...I forget what he was, but he had long hair......and one was an evil villain pretending to be Superman.

Then the real superman, brought back to life by the the robots he created in the Fortress of Solitude, came back and estroyed tha Villain Superman.

This was also a major part of Hal Jordan's history (The Earth's first major Green lantern) and the evil Superman destroyed his home town and millions of people living in it.

Hal Jordan was devestated so he went to the Planet OA and asked the Guardians of the Universe to reverse time and save Coast City. The Guardians declined saying they do not interfere with human events. Hal Jordan went crazy and killed several other Green lanterns and stole their power rings. Hal then even killed all but one of the Guardians, as Hal was now all Powerful, and it was then discovered he was being posessed by the demon "Paralax". As Paralax he was so powerful he decimated the entire Green lantern corps. The rest of the story is for another time.

The new Batman is alot cooler than Bruce Wayne- I am talking about "The Question" from the new series "52".

Batman has been gone for a year and you have to get "Batman: 1 year later" to know what he's up to now, er, in the future.

The Question RULES.

Not familiar with those.... what is it like?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

After the last major story from DC "Infinite Crisis" many of the earth's hero's ended up missing. They were gone for one year. In their void, other hero's stepped up and there is a series called "52" explaining the events in that year, it comes out each week for 52 weeks.

The Question goes to Gotham City and assumes the role as Batman. He also pays a ex-cop to become Batgirl, who is a lesbian as well.

The Batman comic is now called "Batman: 1 year later". Instead of taking a hit on sales for a whole year, they just place the current Superman, batman and Green lantern 1 year in the future.

By the way, to understand all of this, you have to go back to the 1940's because this story has been brewing, twisting and gaining steam since then. It has ties to the Multiverse, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis and Identity Crisis.

The DC "universe" is quite complex. In 1985 the entire DC universe was needed to defeat the anti-monitor, even Neil Gaiman's Sandman had to help out.

Currently Marvel has a major storyline going too, a civil war amongst it's characters where sides are taken and lines are drawn.

Thank you, Vater. Your "Geek Alert" post was just geeky enough.. scratch that. Was SO INCREDIBLY GEEKY, it elicited an actual voiced laugh from me.

Ahh, I love you fanatics. I miss my X-Men comics. Wish I hadn't had to sell them off. ALL of them. Snif.

By the way, I did see "Usual suspects" on his resume, Ted. Just didn't include it in my commentary. And I still maintain that's a short resume with which to base your hopes on, actually. Yes, X2 and TUS were great films. And some of the other stuff there is quality, too. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
