Burning down the house

Recommended Posts

So on friday my wife called me at work. She said the garage was on fire and that I needed to come home. I thought she was joking. Nope. My two youngest, 3 and 8, had gotten into the garage, climded a shelving unit and got hold of my hand torch. They were trying to make "green fire" like Daddy does at campfires. In other words.. burnign copper wires I had in the garage. When they got bored with that.. they set fire to my garage door and an old couch next to the garage.

All this in a space of the shower my wife was taking....

What really put the fear into me was that the side of the garage where the fire was is also where I store the really dangourse stuff.. like 5 gallons of gas, a gallon of gas/oil mix for the chainsaw... and a 2 pound tin of black powder....

I have never been so afraid in my life as I was on that drive home.. I kept waiting for the mushroom cloud....

I had the Talking Heads song playing in my mind before the thread even opened. :-)

Glad everyone's (More or less) in one piece. I'm just waiting for my girls first major faux pas.....

Did you have your flammibles in a metal cabinet? Might be a good thing to do if you don't.

Marc, yeah.. all the really bad chemicals and such are in a metal cabinet... now with a lock that only I have a key too, but... it only takes a heat to make black power go off and if the gas had started to boil from the heat.. the fumes would have done the rest.

No, I don't have to rebuild.. just replace the siding and the garage door. I am actually thinking of leaving it as is for a while.. so the boys can see it.. a reminder.

and phee.. yes, I spank for something like this. I do beleive in corperal punishment for serious things.

Oh dear Mark ... :erm

That must have been so very scary. Just thank god no one was hurt (well by the fire anyway :laughing ) .

Im glad there wasn't much damage done. I must admit I laughed when I read the line "because they wanted to make green fire like daddy does" it was just so cute I had to .. even though I know its no laughing matter that they lit your hideout on fire .. :doh

Wow. Thankfully everyone is okay.

I cannot take a shower while my kids are with me and awake because I'm always scared something like that could happen. I have to wait until they are in bed (and asleep) or someone is watching them for me.

I can't leave my kids in a car while I pay for gas.

I can't leave my youngest long enough to run downstairs and switch laundry (I carry him with me when I do).

... I am paranoid.

Two of my four are about the same age as your two youngest.

I set the back yard on fire when I was 10. I have no idea why I did that other than thinking it would be fun to watch it burn! If my dad hadn't seen the smoke and ran around the corner with the hose it would likely have burned down the house.

Glad it didn't burn down your whole house and that nobody was burned or seriously injured.
