gothicmom
I"ve been ill on and off since Thanksgiving. I took some antibiotics and it still came back 3 days later. My sinuses are filled and my face hurts. My throat hurts and I have a very deep, bark-like cough. Does any one know of some type of herb that may help? I'm so desperate now. Since nothing over the counter is working and I've already took antibiotics.....maybe something natural will work. I've also been thinking of finding something with an immunity booster-whatever that means LOL I'm tired of feeling like this and I'll try just about anything. Nienna, do you know of any good herb shops in the area? Someplace knowlegable with good quality? Thanks all!
The_Dark
Have you had your teeth checked? An infection of the teeth or gums will cause sinus problems from hell. Even if you don't realize that your teeth are the problem. Also, have you a new pet? Perhaps your really haveing an alergic reaction. Radon? Have you had your house checked for Radon? I'd need more specific info to give you a better diagnosis of whats really going on and what herb to use to fix the problem.
torn asunder
i would highly recommend seeing a chiropractor - i used to have a lot of sinus issues, but they've pretty much disappeared since i started going last year. had an ear infection recently, took antibiotics three separate times, each prescr. stronger & it still wouldn't go away - told him about it, and he had it gone in less than a week. if you'd like, check out Boesky Chiropractic. the website is still being worked on, so it doesn't look the best, but he'd be happy to talk to you if you have any questions. i've already referred two friends, and my ma to him. he's a great guy! gothicmom
The Dark This is the first time in MANY years I have had dental insurance. We just got it at the first of the year. WE are still working out the bugs in it. Meaning that the ins.comp. keeps rejecting the claim. GRRR I will look into that when it's all settled. My eyes too! No new pets, but we do have pets. I've been working hard to get the dander and dust to a minimum. Thats hard for me. Radon? I don't know what that is, but I will pass on the info thanks Torn Asunder I had forgotten about sinus adjustments. I've had them before and they are wonderful. Again, waiting on the insurance crapola to clear up so there are no problems. I do have back problems-blah we need a new bed. ours is shite! Thanks
The_Dark
You have never heard of Radon? ACK!!!! Radon is the #2 cause of Lung cancer. 1 in 15 homes in the US has high levels of Radon gas.. what is it? Radioactive gas emitted from the ground and water sources. Yes, it's natural, but deadly. Even if it's not your problem... get your house checked for Radon. Home Depot should have self testing kits for under $10. http://www.epa.gov/radon/radonqa1.html#Sources%20of%20Radon

Also i believe if you call her and talk with her on the phone she will mail you your order. But you would have to call and double check. personal suggestions from befor Brian had the sinus surgery done: we used the following herbs Can - sol (yeast cure) B.C. - W ( Blood cleaner) Parsley Extract (bowel cleaner) Elecampane extract (lung Cleaner) Golden Seal and echincea combination ( antibic type effects) Alfalfa extract (bowl cleaner) the idea was to cleanse the entire body of every thing yucky, Brian said it helped him feel better not right though he also used sudafed maxium strength sinus headache this helped a little Now a womans pms midol helps with any pain he also was seeing an ENT at the time who had him on a ton of antibiotics ( for three months) untill they fnally said it was time for surgery. Nienna
Well.... Funny you should ask about herb shops here... NO! Not that it's suprising. My friend does own one in Ionia though... it's about 30 munites away. I've got the same thing you do. Nothing helps the cough that I've found, though Contact Cold and Flu has kept the sinus pain at bay. From my personal experience, Eucalyptus oil in a hot bath is great to clear the sinuses. Zinc and Vitamin C are great for the immune system. Hang in there... spring is coming!

Fierce Critter
My doctor used to prescribe steam inhalations with Vicks. My family benefits from these often. How we do it: boil a kettle of water. Either pour directly into a stoppered bathroom sink, or to protect the basin, put a large bowl in the sink and pour the water in there (years of "steaming" without the bowl caused wear & cracks in my dad's sink) Add about 1/4 teaspoon of Vicks Vapo Rub and swish around with a spoon 'til it melts (they also make a liquid meant specifically for steam inhalation). Bend over the basin and cover your head & the sink with a big towel so the steam won't escape. Inhale as strongly as you can through your NOSE - not your mouth. Exhale through your mouth. Repeat the inhaling/exhaling for 5 minutes. This is temporary relief - you'll only be clear for a little while afterwards. But it does help break stuff up way up there. This REALLY helps your sinuses clear out faster than if you didn't do anything.
Fierce Critter
Oh - and in the spirit of Dark's suggestion, try genuine horseradish. NOTHING gets my nose running faster than a spoonful, or spread on a sandwich.

gothicmom
Thanks all! My little buddy is home with me today! He lost his voice!! I think that scares him. He had a pretty high fever this morning. I don't know exactly what it was because the last thermometer we had broke when I cleaned it! The whole tip came off and pulled all the wires out with it! I gave him some pain and fever and it went down alot! Anyway Daniel/Bishop brought us some stuff today-including a new themometer. He also bought some stuff called Humibid. Compared to Robitussin DM it's quite potent. Robitussin has 100mg of the expectorant and this product has 400mg. Robitussin has 10mg. of the cough suppressant and this has 20mg. They come in pill form so I don't gag on it!! But it did start to fall apart the minute the water hit. It has helped, when I cough it's not so deep and barky sounding. gothicmom
The Dark. WE've been researching the radon idea. We've only lived in this house since June. I'm not sure if that is long enough to have that be the problem. Anyway we are going to pick up a tester today, just to see.
DisturbedMania
i have sinus/allergy issues and the things that have helped me are massage, chiropractic and nasacort spray. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ummm... I work with a medical massage therapist and he told me I couldn't get a massage while I had that freaky sinus cold thing because he didn't want the sinus issues to spread. Don't know the specifics, but I'm gonna go with the you prolly shouldn't get a massage.
JaneDead
really? my massage therapist would massage my face, neck, throat, etc and within a day or two my sinus issues would clear up. every time.
torn asunder
sinus problems/infections can be alleviated by loosening up the surrounding muscles and/or corrrecting spinal alignments... chiro manipulations worked for me, on an ear infection i couldn't get rid of for a month...
