The_Dark
I got home from work last night right before the storm hit. I was rolling up windows in my wife's car when the wind picked up and it got dark. I stood outside trying to gauge how bad it was going to get... then I noticed the sound... like a train coming out of the deep woods... I screamed into the house for Kim to grab the boys and get into the bathtub. I heard the first tree snap in half about then... then I watched a 20 foot section of said tree fly over my head. Then shit hit the fan. I watched a 45foot maple in my yard pull out of the ground and land on my propane tank... thank god it held up... I never saw a funnel cloud... but I watched a path form itself in the woods.. trees snapping in half or being uprooted... all only about 100 feet away. I'm not really sure how I stood up or didn;t fly away. I could feel the wind tearing at me but I was rooted to the spot... watching at Mother Nature tore through my trees with a wrath. it was.... Wonderfull. After it passed I calmed the kids down and then went to check on the olds folks that live around me. No major damage to any homes and no body hurt... but there is a 50foot wide path cutting through the woods now.. no tree in it is still whole or rooted.... What power... Msterbeau
Crazy. Glad nobody was hurt Mark. I've read about a weather phenomenon that might be what you experienced. It's a very strong and concentrated wind that does damage like a tornado.
Onyx
Wow. You are insane for standing there watching that, but I can't say anything because I probably would have watched it too. I was out driving in it but didn't intend to get caught in the storm, was just coming home from Meijer - lightning, hail, strong winds (but I have to say I loved every minute of it). I always feel drawn to storms. Hey - you should take some photos when you get a chance. 50 feet wide - wow.

Gothmama25
I lost power last night for a few hours. The weird part was that it was only my block that lost the power. Across the street still had power.
