my views on censorship boil down to children. i feel adults obviously don't need to be censored from anything as it is their choice to be exposed to whatever the hell they want. but children - they don't know any better yet. and the information they see/hear/receive may be more damaging than good at certain ages. you just never know how they are going to process it.

i totally agree but at the same time i dont think thats any reason for the gov. to censor stuff. i feel that its the parents obligation to let their children hear/see/receive what they feel is apropriate. that way the parents that are more lenient (sp?) have the same ability to expose their children to things that they feel are appropriate as the parents who feel that maybe swearing or nudity or violence is something that should be restricted. things like v-chips and family radio stations i think help a tremendous amount with this. imo =)

See I could never stand that. When someone told me "no you can't watch" or "no you can't hear this" it just made me want to find out more about whatever it was. I was always extremely stubborn when it came to things like that and eventually I'd always get my way, one way or another, conciquenses be damned. I like to think I turned out to be a decent human being regardless of what effect any of that had on me.

Kids will find out eventually, and I know a few that act like adults and have the mental capacity for knowledge (sometimes more so than a few adults I know). I'm sure they can handle whatever it is.

It's when you shelter them they become prudes and things shock them.

i don't shelter my kids but i was exposed to too much growing up and i will keep my kids away from all that at least. to me that is censoring but in a very good way :wink

and i am meaning this beyond what you see on tv or hear on the radio. there are other ways to "censor" and in the cases i mean it is necessary. i guess that is not necessarily "censoring" then it is something else? protecting? i guess.
