getting slightly off the subject, I think alot of people say a man's body is not attractive but I think it's only because men are hairy.  A man's body that is completely shaved isn't that unattractive, is it?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i dont think this is off (the origional) subject at all. for me it all depends on whos had the shaving done. ive had bfs in the past who shaved everything and then looked 12 which was a bit odd to me actually. there are some places tho that i personally dont find attractive when completely shaved, but thats what trimming is for :innocent

edit: i loooove a mans body umm i mean *giggle* :blushing

yeah, i wasn't really thinking of genital areas. But a guy with a shaved/waxed chest and legs looks better than a hairy guy. And I am saying that as a straight guy who really has no idea what is more 'attractive' but it's just not as bad to look at for me. I'm including myself.

Any time you apply standards to men but not to women or apply standards to women but not men, you are treating people differently based on sex. WHICH WOULD MAKE YOU A SEXIST.

QUOTE(BrassFusion @ Jul 29 2006, 05:40 PM)

You're only sexist if you apply standards to men that you don't apply to women, or vice versa.

*

QUOTE(BrassFusion @ Jul 29 2006, 05:49 PM)

The sexism part comes in when you disrespect people for their sexual characteristics, whether they're genetic (sex) or acquired (hairy-ass stank pits). Sex doesn't have to have anything to do with it.

QUOTE(Gauge @ Jul 29 2006, 06:06 PM)

how have i openly disrespected anyone because they dont shave their pits?

QUOTE(BrassFusion @ Jul 29 2006, 06:10 PM)

YOU DIDN'T.

QUOTE(Gauge @ Jul 29 2006, 06:12 PM)

then by your standards its not sexist.

end of debate - it's not sexist, by your own admission...

Somewhere in there you missed the part where Gauge denied subscribing to the double standard that would have made her statement a sexist one. I accepted that, and after that point, the discussion became largely hypothetical.

My point wasn't solely about Gauge, it was about the sexism territory in general.

its not just the genital area its arms to. i had a friend who shaved his arms and to touch it was just creepy and made it very unattractive. waxed legs or chest isnt bad but honestly i find a little hair on a guy quite attractive.

i think attractiveness entirely depends on the individual - i've seen some guys who were hairy and quite sexy, and some who were totally hairless (at least to their shorts/underwear) and were pretty hot, too. to each their own...

whther or not she admitted/denied a double-standard has nothing to do with the fact that you contradicted yourself with your own words - her admission/denial would change that in no way, shape, or form...

Yeah that's probably true I guess, because I definately know girls who like hairy chest on men. I just don't think under any scenario I would like body hair on anyone, but that's just my preference I suppose.

I like when people are trimmed. No massive hedges. Just a good trimming. I think that the lack of hair in a guy's pubic region makes them look 12. Just trim the bush.  :wink

I didn't contradict myself. If all those quotes from a couple posts up are supposed to pinpoint it, they really don't. None of those show a direct contradiction of terms.

hence, her personal preference is not sexist - in your own words!!

how the hell you can deny this is beyond me, but you do what you need to to save face and make yourself feel better... icon2.gif

as a good friend of mine used to say, "the best part about banging your head against a brick wall is when you stop!"...

My argument that Gauge was a sexist ended when she denied applying the standard to both men and women...

Me:

Didn't accuse you of anything, but it's awesome that you don't hold a double standard.

It was more in response to Gauge...

"and women. well. . .gay/bi women anyway. armpit hair on a girls grose." <sic>

Implying that pit hair is okay on guys, but not on women... If a girl's gonna have sex with a guy and then a girl, why is pit hair okay on one but not the other? It doesn't make no damn sense. It's applying a different standard to men than to women and is therefore sexist.

And I haven't voted in the poll for lack of relevant options.

*

Gauge:

i may have implyed but you assumed. im not sexist because i dont want to be with a woman with hairy pits because its no different than not wanting to date someone shorter than you or prefering blonds to brunetts or green eyes to blue. its just my preference and you dont have to like it but by no means assume because of what i look for in another that im sexist. and while were on the subject of standards and preferences in men and women i also "prefer" not to date a woman with chest or back hair. i dont like dicks on my women or breasts on my men. . .does that also make me sexist because if so im fucking guilty. *rolls eyes*

Me:

If you're bi, yeah, I don't see why you wouldn't like women with penises.

And come on...

"i may have implyed but you assumed."

..What the fuck does this mean?

*

Gauge:

well call me crazy but part of the reason i like women is because of the fact that they dont have penises. while sex isnt the most important part of a relationship if im going to be getting intamate with a girl i would prefer that she was umm. . .a girl, same with a guy, i would rather not have a pair of tits in my face while im fooling around. and for future references just incase i didnt make myself clear i said i was bi, not into transexuals.

and to your last comment, what i mean is that (in your words) i implyed that it was ok for men to have pit hair and not women but you assumed that was what i meant because i said nothing about my preference in men.

At this point Gauge appeared to admit that she did, in fact, hold the double standard. The wording is very very ambiguous.

Me:

So I was correct in my assumption. I must be psychic or something.

And you still harbor a sexist double standard.

*

Gauge:

if the assumption is that its only women i like to not have hairy pits then no your wrong. i find it much more attractive for a guy to not have hair there as well.

i would like to know why you think i "harbor a sexist double standard" because from where im standing you have nothing to go on.

Here she clearly denied holding a double standard, so...

Me:

A guy that prefers redheads to blondes or brunettes is a hair-ist.

A person who prefers short people is a height-ist.

A person who prefers shorn pits on women but doesn't care if men have them (or vice versa) is a sex-ist.

A person who believes that women should not be firefighters and men should not be seamstresses (or vice versa!) is also a sex-ist.

Any time you apply standards to men but not to women or apply standards to women but not men, you are treating people differently based on sex. WHICH WOULD MAKE YOU A SEXIST.

How is this so difficult to understand?

And Gauge... Christ almighty. When you clearly imply something, then I assume the implication, then you ADMIT to the implication and don't deny it... WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO THINK? YOU BASICALLY TOLD ME I WAS CORRECT IN ASSUMING YOU HELD A DOUBLE STANDARD.

The first half of this post was to clear things up with you, TA, because you'd asked what body hair has to do with sexism.

The "you" is used as an alternative to "one" because saying "which would make one a sexist" is kind of antiquated and pretentious. The first half of that paragraph justifies the second half as being non-specific to a person.

A few posts down...

Edit: In response to TA's dictionary.com link

Which is exactly what I've been saying all along.

QUOTE

Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender.

The phrase

"armpit hair on a girls grose"<sic>, when taken to include the implication that armpit hair on boys isn't necessarily... well, gross, promotes the stereotype that "womanly" women have shaven underarms, but that for men, it's not necessary.

I've since found out that the implication was not intended, even though I stand behind my assumption as having been justified.

The emboldened part I must have paraphrased and repeated at least 8 times over the course of this thread. It's a goddamn shame, is what.

This is the most ridiculous thread ever.

What's up with these women (ot men for that matter) who don't take care of themselves?

Its a simple matter of hygiene.

I'll say one thing and only say it once...hygene or no, if you like someone going down on you, and I'm talking about going down, going down...I mean for like an hour or more...nobody likes a mouthfull of hair.

This reminds me of the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry has one of Scheryl's pubes stuck in his throat and keeps trying to hack it up the whole episode.

Back to buisness at hand though: I was talking with a friend about the existance of areas of the body thickly covered with pubes, like the armpit...and I think what we said (over too many drinks) is that pubes exist for a couple of reasons...to cushion against friction and (more importantly) to catch and hold scents for attracting the opposite sex. But I don't think we choose mates that way anymore, really...not since people lived in caves. I think not shaving sort of softens the curves of a woman...and so they're not as attractive visually...which is what I think it's more about in the days we live in...and I'm only speaking on a level of fucking...I'm not talking about how we choose a "soulmate" or something. But yeah, thier lines are not as crisp, with hair. But...for some women it probably doesn't matter if they shave or not...I mean the ones that don't really have curves anyway. However...it's just one more thing that could add to someone not finding you attractive if you're a plump woman also with hairy armpits because pubes do catch and hold scents, terrible scents, which is all the more dire if you're overweight and so sweat a lot...beyond that it's against the accepted norm, anyway, people think it's disgusting to look at by now. ....And I think it's more of a look women have come up with for themselves, shaving a I mean...fashion, particularly western fashion, is much more revealing than it used to be...we see women's armpits and legs all the time nowadays. In short, women shaving is not any "dumber" than any of the other notions people have invented through the years...everything we've developed is based on collective opinion or mass hysteria, all of our laws, everything. If you accept the basic idea that curvacious women are sexy...or that smelly women are gross...or that showing more skin is hot, well then shaving is just a matter of common sense, if falls right in line with everything else. I wouldn't throw away thousands of years of social progress to have us all live in caves or log cabins again and I wouldn't like a world with hairy women. I don't like a lot of things about our society...but in this case at least, I'm willing to play the game. And I'm sure that everyone has some facet of our customs that they agree with.

I'm not telling anyone that they should shave. On a personal note although, these hippy girls who think they're saving the world one hairy armpit at a time or something, I find them ridiculous.

I predict we will become close to hairless in our evolution.  We may even end up pale, with long skinny necks.....grey skin from working inside all day.....smaller....eyes will widen from lack of sun....OMG!  We are becoming aliens!!!!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There are no environmental factors to cause that. Civilization kind of dead-ends evolution, in theory. We're gonna look like we do for a long time.

And I don't shave my pubes normally for a few good reasons.

1. It makes me feel like a 10-year-old girl, and not in a good way.

2. It itches growing back.

3. Razor bumps are infinitely less attractive than the way I normally smell, which is

4. Not bad. Even a gynecologist noticed it once. That was creepy as all hell.

I like it when guys shave, though, so if they do it and they want me to, I will. A few days of consistent shaving and moisturizing gets rid of the itch/razor burn so it's livable.

And now y'all know way, way more than you ever wanted to.

here is my take on hair or no hair that is the question

I am strait.

I like my men natural.

I am strait.

I think women should shave them...it's just, not sexy to me.

If I were gay, And I was say, the "taker" I would still want my woman to shave.

If I were the giver, I'd shave, and still want my woman to shave.

there is just something very unnattractive to me about a woman who doesn't shave her pits.

Now as for the Muff....

Well, I shave mine. I feels less hot and sticky and sweaty.

Less odorous, and just feels better.

I do request my man to at a minimum keep it under an inch.

I don't like hair in my mouth...it WILL make me puke.

If I were going down a chick, I would not want to have a mouthfull of hair.

in some cultures, it is Unclean to have hair in the pubic area.

I can see where this comes from.

I think we should all be hairless from the neck down and that's all I'm going to say about it. Someone else may have already made this point, but I wouldn't know... I didn't feel like reading through the long arguement just to find that out.

    • Feeling happy to report that my neighbor and her cat are now back together.  I build her fur baby an indoor Cat Run and now the cat and her 3 kittens have been moved in.  I told my neighbor to make sure the little ones stay with their mother for at least 3 days in their new environment before she starts letting people handle and take the babies away.    I wish she would keep at least one of the 3 kittens, but apparently they are all already spoken for.

    • Well it happened, understandably but it still sucks.  I hated them both so I was going to be unhappy either way, but I do admit I hate Trump slightly more because of the narcissism, egomania, xenophobia, and misogyny.  On top of that that insufferable base of his who think that they are free to act the same way now that he's won.  The apologetics from them were horrible too where they handwaved away legitimate criticisms, and mocking those who brought them with "orange man bad!"   The one good thing to come out of this is punk music is going to absolutely rock for the next few years.  However I really just have one question... https://www.loudersound.com/features/andrew-eldritch-sisters-of-mercy-will-make-another-album-if-trump-is-elected IT'S HAPPENED TWICE NOW ANDY, WHERE'S OUR FUCKIN' ALBUM‽ Well, I guess at least I'll get to keep my guns.
