Love Tori. Have every Cd she has put out including the original Under The Pink with the B sides cd and Boys For Pele with the normal version of Talula

Going to see Fiona Apple next week too, very excitedly hehe.

and I must agree with Phee that Tori's cover of Slayer (and Im a HUGE old skool Slyer fan) is excellent. to take a song that is under 3 minutes and make it last over six and do it so hauntingly well is amazing. Tori is one of my favorite song writers. her distrust of males should not be taken as deeply as you have thus far. She has no qualms with men enjoying her music or her message. Im sure she adores the fact that men listen to her and can take something from her music.

Cruel is probably my all time favorite track with Precious Things and Caught A Lite Sneeze close

And to take a lame ass sounding song from Eminem that makes me want to forget he even has a record deal and turn it into something so haunting (the cellos help) it scares the shit out of me, that is amazing too.

Wow, there are so many posts here that I want to respond to.

I love Tori too.

I think her music has gotten a little weaker, and less musically adventurous these past couple albums, but it's still good.

I think musically she had a narural progression that started simply and peaked with

From the Choirgirl Hotel

which blends rock/dance/pop/trip-hop.

It has the sexy song mentioned earlier She's Your Cocaine and Cruel, as well as Raspberry Swirl

"If you want inside her well, boy you better make her raspberry swirl"

She loves men. She loves sex. She sings about both a lot.

She just didn't like being raped, so she sang a song about it on her first album.

And she started RAINN

Rape Abuse Incest National Network is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.

She did it so women would feel empowered and be able to go back to loving men and sex, without having to fear or hate them.

Which is not to be confused with RAYNE who loves Ghost Dog Phee.

who also is not feared or hated---------

except by the small time mobsters who want to get rid of Ghost Dog Phee to cover up their involvement in the murder of a man who had been sleeping with the daughter of the mob boss.

Ghost Dog Phee lives in isolation with Rayne and his pigeons.

But that's for a different thread.

I absolutely, positively, can't stand her.

I can't believe I missed an opportunity to once again express how much I can't stand her.

And I get super, duper worked-up when people hear I like Kate Bush and can't stand Tori Amos, and they say to me, "I can't believe you like Kate Bush but can't stand Tori!!!"

Gads. They're so not the same.

Not that into Tori Amos' music but... I'm not the kind to say someone sucks just 'cos I personally don't care for their artistic output. I know she's greatly admired by Neil Gaiman who is purely godlike, & by many other artists whose work & opinions I respect. So my take on Tori is that she's a very talented artist, just not in a way I can really appreciate.

And we should all be way, way past the mindset where we assume that pro-woman = anti-male. Life isn't that simple and neither are most people.
