I have issues with the current incarnation of legos.

They make everything WAY too simple for kids nowadays!

They give you these kits to build the little Harry Potter Mansions or whatever, but instead of having you build brick by brick like in the old days, they give you premade walls and shit!

That is so wrong! You were never supposed to -actually- end up with the thing looking like it did on the box. You were supposed to start building it according to the instructions, and then get fed up a third of the way through and just start building your own random thing. Not to mention the new story that went along with the new path of architecture you were taking with you legos.

Yeah. But most kids just need a slight prod - or none at all, and they start doing things their own way. Mine do.

You can still get kits that have just bricks, I believe. otherwise you just have to get enough to make a critical mass of parts....

I bought my own first-ever set about 15 years ago. I loved finally having my own to play with, never did as a kid.

Then, last year, when I was alone to pack up an entire house into an 8x10 trailer...

I had a huge collection of Lego sets to sell on eBay. I had to leave those behind, but didn't realize my personal set was in with them - I was leeching replacement parts out of my set to complete the others for sale.

So I left those, too.

Only a year later did it dawn on me that I could have taken ALL those legos and just poured them into the boxes I was packing with other stuff. They would have filled all the little nooks & crannies and I'd have them all.

My head just wasn't working right at the time.

Sigh.
