Some of my personal favorites:

"I would rather stay at the hotel from "The Shining" with Redrum kid!!!!!

This had to of been the fastest checkout in human history. My wife and my parents along with my brother, who is in a wheelchair booked a room here, because it was the only one with vacancies in downtown Detroit. We know why it had vacancies. I would not let my dog Duke stay here!!! The elevator doors slammed my brothers wheelchair, nearly decapitating him upon going up to our rooms. As soon as we walked into the room I knew we had to get the hell out of here. We went down to my parents room to verify that it wasn't just our room that was filthy, outdated, and the resemblence of a bad porno movie set. My mom went to wash her hands and as soon as she turned on the hot water, the knob crumbled in her hands from all the rust and corrosion. There was no heat in their room, and it had only one bed which was supposed to have 2 double beds. I got on the phone immediately with Hotels and they refunded my credit card in full in record time. I was very surprised by this and happy. This isn't the end of this horror story. I was on my cell phone with Hotels, and was put on hold. Instead of taking the elevators down back to the lobby, I took the stairs fearing that I may lose my reception on the elevators. Upon entering the stairwell which was 11 stories of stairs I was in shock and utter fear of my life. It looked like something out of the movie "Escape from New York" meets "The Shining". There was grafitti on every wall going down the stairs along with urine stained floors, hanging wires, broken windows, and very dim lighting. I could not believe I was in a Ramada property. I beg of anyone reading this to tell friends, relatives, and even enemies to stay clear of this dump. This is a flop house with a Ramada sign hanging from it. I forgot to mention that the person working the desk told me to write a complaint and used the f-word while telling me to do so. I thought I was on one of those hidden camara shows, but to my dismay this was a real experience. Shame on Ramada for letting this dump use their name."

"The Leland: "the armpit of the universe"

On the last leg of our HONEYMOON we thought we'd taken a wrong turn and checked into PRISON!!! That is how inviting the he/she (not sure of gender) guard at the front desk was to us.

The room was freezing cold and the bedspread was covered in burn holes. The whole room stank of bleach which was not pleasant. To top it all we spent $80.00 in cab fare to get to this pile of crap for a 1 night stop over. There is no bus or train. This should be the first clue - do not go downtown Detroit. WE SHOULD HAVE SLEPT ON THE AIRPORT FLOOR. Even the bogs at the airport were more pleasant!!!!

We were told that we would be in an exciting shopping district by our lying tour operator. The first person we saw looked like an inbred on crack cocaine. The second lot were a husband and wife team who were looking for a tasty treat out of the rubbish bin. We decided to go the opposite way. The whole place looked like a derelict ghost town and we were too afraid to look anybody in the face. We didn;t feel safe and we checked out of the hotel and spent the day at the airport.

We are both experienced travellers who like to see culture and local life. We do not just want a cushy 5* hotel which we want to stay in all day. Having been to over 22 countries, hostels, backpacking and lowbudget and luxury holidays I can honestly say that my 1 day stay in Detroit was the worst!"

"Absolute Terror

My night stay at the Ramada Inn downtown Detroit was the worst and most terrifying experience of my life. My colleage and I checked in at 10:00 p.m. There were homeless peaple and "renters" wandering around the hotel. We were in the middle of the projects. At first glance it seemed very dangerous but we didn't know were else to go. The hotel was built in the 1920's and has not been updated. The rooms were disgustingly filthy,there was no heat, the lock was broken off our door, and there were no towels to shower with. There were others staying there with us and they found blood all over their room floor and phone. They changed rooms and found beer bottles all over the room. The renters that live there appear to have access to the whole building. Riding the elevator or walking in the halls was dangerous. We decided to lock ourselves in our room and wait for daylight to get out. At about 12:00 at night, we heard a woman in the room next to us screaming and yelling for her life. We assume she was being raped but we will never know. We were to frightened to call the police. We barcaded the door and got whatever items in the room we could find to use for weapons in case he was coming to our room next. Shortly after everything went silent until we heard a knock at our door. It was a man bringing towels to our room. At this point it was 12:37 at night. What kind of hotels deliver towels at 12:37 at night? Of course we did not answer the door and waited for morning. Needless to say we checked out and will never go back or forget this terrifying experience."

Yes.

I "stayed" there once, as in hung out with a renter in his room and got high.

All I hope is that I'm not supporting that shitty hotel when I go to City Club.

Yeah Mike is so cheap he won't fix a broken lightswitch,or anything,Yes I have been to parties in the hotel several times,and explored alot of other areas,and I think the dumpster is much cleaner IMO,lol.I guess you can't expect a slum lord like Mike to have any improvements,or renovations done to the hotel,damn shame.

i've stayed a couple times - i've actually found worse on my road trips in the past - aside from the ridiculous price for a room, they're not that bad. (and yeah, i kind of like the "rubble-strewn, war-zone" looking hallways, but you won't ever find me taking them! :fear

I should go add one. I stayed there for the first time recently. It was worse than people say. I was over charged.....the plaster was falling from the ceiling so bad I almost couldn't shower, it was like a sandbox in there.

No towels.

The couch smelled like stale sperm and beer and was actually a bit moist....no I did not sit on it.

I have stayed in most of the rooms, I spend the night alot, and when I was 18/19 I lived there for a while, the employee rooms are a bit scarry, but it's cheaper than driving home and going back there in 7 hours. I like it, but then again I sleep in a basement that makes that place look like a 5 star. I would live there again, I loved it. ( the fun not the smells)

Besides, it'll be good for the little nerd person. Most goths are nerds who got their ass kicked and then they turned goth. :grin :nut
