Erin's Super Sexy Word Of The Day!

Starting a new thread... Every day I'll try to remember a really sweet sounding word with a meaning I'm not 100% sure of, and put it here, you know, for the greater good.

Then I'll claim it on my 2006 taxes as volunteer work.

OH and since this dumb board doesn't support special characters, I'll put the pronunciation in as specifically as I can.

Today's word:

A·poc·ry·pha Pronunciation Key (uh-PAH-kruh-fuh)

n. (used with a sing. or pl. verb)

1. The biblical books included in the Vulgate and accepted in the Roman Catholic and Orthodox canon but considered noncanonical by Protestants because they are not part of the Hebrew Scriptures. See table at Bible.

2. Various early Christian writings proposed as additions to the New Testament but rejected by the major canons.

3. apocrypha Writings or statements of questionable authorship or authenticity.

I'm also a fan of metaphorical usage, so I might use the word to refer to crappy essays I wrote in 8th grade and found at the bottom of my "file."

The dusty apocrypha crumbled under my fingers as I read why dogs are indeed better than cats.

Anyone else have usage suggestions?

tintinnabulation \tin-tih-nab-yuh-LAY-shuhn\, noun:

A tinkling sound, as of a bell or bells.

One found oneself immersed in the infinitely nuanced tintinnabulations of clapping cymbal rhythms passed from one player to the next, in the barely audible, rain-like patter of drums that suddenly grew into an overwhelming mechanical onslaught.
