Good gothy fashion....

Recommended Posts

$70 is really a pittance for a stylish coat that you'll wear for years... you gotta learn to think of that kind of thing as an investment. Little trendy throwaway pieces are one thing... wardrobe basics & centerpieces are something else altogether. That said, I've been trying to catch that skirt on sale for about 5 years now w/out success... I'm kind'a hard on clothes so something that delicate-looking isn't a very good investment for me.

I'm kind of leery of Newport News... I've got some nice things from them, but a few have been really poor quality. Returns are pretty hassle-free tho so I usually don't mind taking a chance. Only thing I really don't like is their jeans... almost all have at least a 12" rise which just doesn't work for my curvy short-waisted figure.

That's the thing... i've gotten some clothes that I thought were staples, but then I'd have to sew buttons back on or fix the collar or stupid crap. I think I just want to start making my own clothes. I figure if i practice enough, i'll get slightly better at machine sewing... =)

that's the way to go... I've always regretted never learning to sew. I have all these ideas for remaking clothes I have lying around, but totally lack the skills to actually bring them to fruition.

sewing is a usefull skill.

even us manly men ocassionaly have to sew something.  only the other week i had to resew a pouch on my comkit vest as the stitching broke

this will sound helly stupid... but I only recently discovered there are people who don't know how to do basic mending i.e. fixing a hem, sewing on a button, or stitching up a split seam. I always thought that was just instinctive knowledge... duh!

sme people i work with dont know how to cook an egg. and one woman wont buy fish from the sea as it had guts etc. but canned fish is OK.

not all people have my backing, my mother was a seamstress and my father a mechanic. so i had a fair bit of instruction from both

Quality has gotten so bad that now when I get something new I reinforce the bottons right away.

I bought some nice 30 dollar dress pants at Sears.

Within one week the hems had come out.

So I take them to Jabbar the Tailor here on Gratiot.

They fix them for free.

The hems come out again within a week.

So I pay to have them fixed right (15 bucks)

So now I have paid 45 for the pair of pants.

It sux

  • 1 month later...

I just bought this Lip Service jacket. Should be here monday. They're return policy is great, so, like pomba said above, it's worth taking a chance.

Really, I just want to be that girl, in that outfit, but this works for now.

ooh that's really sharp... it would look dreadful on me tho, I just can't wear tailored stuff at all *snif* hence the ragamuffin gypsy queen look...
