A small Combichrist rant

So, I wrote a review for Combchrst's "Get Your Body Beat" a while back and, while the EP wasnt that bad, I've come to the conclusion that it's not one I would spend 10 bucks to own for myself. Even my manager agrees with me that Andy LaPlagua's work should get a hold of what it sounded like back in the day of "The Joy of Gunz" or "Everybody Hates You", because if it doesnt, and an album is released with the overall sound of GYBB.......

..... Many fans may be very disappointed.

On the other hand, Panzer AG's latest release, "Your World Is Burning" is fantastic!! I've been digging on this album for a long while. I made the remark to Lori (( manager )) that if LaPlegua releases a disappointing album under Combichrist, he should either go back to Icon of Coil or pay more attention to Panzer AG.

She whole-heartedly agreed with me.

So, to those of you who listen to either Icon of Coil, Combichrist or Panzer AG, or all three...... I want to hear your thoughts on where the tunes have gone, because I'm pretty discourage. ;_;

Andy's music is wholly lacking in sophistication in any way.  And I don't mean to come across as snobby, so please don't take it as such.  I, for one, enjoy Rammstein regardless that the same could be said for them.

Essentially what one looks for is no the lyrics of VNV, the superior beats of Wumpscut or the superior synth of Covenant- because Icon and its respective side-projects just don't measure up.  When I find myself enjoying a Combichrist song (and I do!) it is some of the very exceptional tracks... like "This is my Rifle".  I don't feel that I am listening to substantial music, but there is something very free and gratifying about letting go and not caring.  Which is why, perhaps when it comes to dancability alone, Andy can hold his own against the aforementioned VNV, Wump and Covenant.

But what I'm getting at is that Andy's latest EP...... isnt so up to par with the goodies that he provided from Everybody Hates You and the Joy of Gunz. "Get Your Body Beat" is practically the best track. 5 different bands remix this one song, and then there's "Product", "What the Fcuk" and a hidden track called "DNA 4am".

And the only one that's as catchy as GYBB is What the Fcuk.

As I said, it's going downhill. Everybody Hates You provides several good tracks that can get people riled up and moving, but when a lengthy EP provides only 2? I just hope that doesnt clinch the fate of a possible future album being based on the almost nill success of 2 tracks that, after a brief listen...... multiple listens to just those two tracks will create the yawning reflex.

Dont get me wrong, they're not bad tracks. But if they become the next floor hit....... I'm going to miss the days of Wumpscut's "Christfuck" and VNV's "Saviour (vox)" Because that stuff is good.

GYBB is overall mediocre at best.

Wow you folks are picky. I like most of Combichrist's stuff I've heard so far.

I don't really notice all the subtle differences in music enough to tell what category this or that belongs in though. I just like whatever I like.

The new Combichrist is the musical equivalent of masturbation. I don't like it at all.

And to think, Icon of Coil was getting really fucking good at what they did, and now hardly a peep out of them at all, under that name anyway.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that the new Panzer AG is terrible, too.

Yeah, Dead Enough For Life is still a big hit, but Former Self beats that out. I dunno which of their album is newest, but I remember IoC being great through and through.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that the new Panzer AG is terrible, too.

This I dont agree with, although maybe it's because some of the songs sound a bit repetitive in beat and tune? But I think that "Your World Is Burning" is good. oO

definately noisy. I don't dislike noisy. it's the kind of music that can be good at a club, but i don't forsee myself ever getting intimate with their sound.
