It's that wonderful time of year again. Have you filed yet? Are you an April 15th procrastinator?

I try to file ours as soon as Jon brings home a W-2. We don't do anything that would entitle us to deductions, so we always go with the EZ form. I filed ours by phone about 2 weeks ago, and our refund was direct deposited on the 11th. Just in time to pay the freakin' NC vehicle taxes (yes, they have vehicle taxes down here... grrr...).

We don't get much of a refund, 'cause we have our deductions set up so that Jon gets more in his paycheck weekly. Got just enough to pay those vehicle taxes and catch-up one other bill, and that's it. Haven't filed our state taxes yet, but we'll be lucky to be getting as much as $20 back.

Expecting a big refund? Whatcha gonna do? Pay bills, go on vacation, spending spree?

we file ours right away. got ours on the 11th and the state i believe it was showed up before that (direct deposit- used turbo tax)

we used the first amount to replace 2 broken windows- that had been broken since we moved here! that was a year and a half ago. yes we are ghetto fabulous. and we also replaced one of our outside doors. (all 3 of them need to be replaced. we have the front door, super drafty. side door, not so bad. and the back door- which is in our room- it was warped and drafty. that was the one we replaced now.)

with the second amount of money we are going to buy a mini van.

i have needed one for about 2 years now. each year that we were going to get it, it didnt happen. i am so anxious about it i can't wait til we find one and it is finally over. ;) too bad i have to "upgrade" to a mini van and can't just drive a car anymore. i guess 3 kids will do that to you.

We also got ours on the 11th. We used the Turbo Tax and had it direct deposited. We received a large sum because we were able to deduct our moving expenses.

We need to have our van fixed.

We bought a few things for the house. Large wicker blinds, air cleaner, bathroom cabinet with a mirror. Pay up some bills, mostly the electric and gas bill!

The kids bought a few things, aymee bought a bunch of new clothes.

I keep trying to spend some but stupid Lane Bryant doesn't have my size in the skirt I want.

I may just buy my Kitchen Aid mixer I've been coveting for years now.

What an interesting range of things on which people are using that refund.

New bed? Sounds glorious. New car? Sweet. No more worrying over student loan debt or necessary home repairs? Worth the peace of mind.

In the past, I would use that money for a late-spring camping trip near Traverse City. But in recent years, it always seems to go to bills, or some other need.

Sometimes I think we should change the way Jon's payroll taxes are done so we can expect a windfall. Does anyone know how much of a percentage difference does that make in your take-home pay?

(Bav - VERY VERY smart idea going to an accountant. But heed this warning: Get someone with a proven reputation. I've heard so many horror stories of accountants screwing things up for people, I'd hate to see that happen to you. Wanna know an unusual place to ask for a reference? Funeral homes. A reputable one can tell you where to go.)

I have a couple of tiny businesses on the side, so although I have a day job and pay extra taxes, I also end up owing money from my profits at the end of the year. I really need to start paying taxes quarterly. I hate that.

it is just hard cuz i have 2 car seats and those take up a bunch of room. luckily my son is super skinny and fits right between them in the back of my lumina. but i got my van so thank god that is over! :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

omg i remeber those car seat days..... mine ended short for my oldest as there was just not enough room for three of those bulky things..... I have had my car since i was 19 yrs old, so i totally understand the relief of somethng bigger

what i find funny is when i was in my teens ( i had a diffrent escort then) we piled like 15 kids in just to get to a concert, kids would be laying all over the place i could barley shift gears, and i dont know how many times i got kicked in the back of the head..... that was OHHHHHH so much Fun, but you get three car seats and three kids to go in the same car and isnt bigg enough....

I always claim 0 on my taxes because while it might be giving the government an interest free loan, ya know? I'm okay with that if it keeps them from breathing down my back at the end of the year saying "You owe us."

I think a portion of it will go to get me glasses this year and the rest will probably go towards a car.
