Christian Bashing... A Question

Recommended Posts

I don't understand why anytime anyone who is not Christian talks about their beliefs, on this website, we always have people who want to argue with them. And I'm not sure why people who claim to have faith in Christ can't participate in these philosophical arguements, which they typically start from regular discussions anyway, without using the persecution card. And If someone is offended by something that wasn't meant to offend anyone, that's their fault. Who can care? What do we want Phee to say--"I'm sorry for my beliefs"? Does he need permission from a member of the church to question his society? It seems to me like we're treating everyone who isn't Christian like they're savages and stereotyping them all. Well, speaking only for myself, you're not going to teach me how to have faith by constantly referencing 'some book' called the Bible. I've read it, and I thought it was a shite read. If that torments anyone, I am not sorry. Instead, If you are offended by me, I recommend that you invent a way to enjoy being offended, because it's as much as I'll ever donate to your cause and more than I intended to give you.

1) nobody's using the persecution card. Somebody asked a question on their own, and it was answered honestly. I dont recall seeing anyone claiming to be persecuted during these discussions.

2) Nobody wants Phee to be sorry for anything, and my repsonses to Phee were clearly not intended for just him. Why are you inserting questions that have no root in this topic?

3) Nobody needs permission to speak their mind, nobody has insinuated that that should be the case. I personally have simply brought to light the "tone" of some of these discussions being worthy of a 2nd look, and - I included myself in that category.

4) you cant teach someone how to have faith. Nor are you on my "time to teach someone how to have faith" hitlist. I doubt seriously that your on anyone's list Bro.

5) nobody is tormented over your reading of the shite bible. But this is a wonderful example of what I mean by the TONE of the points being made. There is often exactly this type of rancor that becomes the framework of the point being made. Do you find yrouself being addressed in turn with the same tone? honest wurstion.

6) Nobody wants anything from you, nobody needs anything from you, no one is offended, and i've yet to see that dynamic taking place in here. Now - Question to you: wasent the point of this whole thread about what takes place IN HERE?????

this is what I mean by the subject matter at hand taking dominance over the participants. we moved from an honest question about how we interact with Christians on DGN to the Bible is Shite, I'm not giving you my $$$, I am a learned person who has read the bible, go find another way to get offended, etc. etc. etc. This was really a perfect vehicle to support what I have tried to shed some light on, how we take a perfectly reasonable topic of discussion, and bleed our personal angst all over it and wonder why tempers rise.

You may or may not care. IN fact I'll take a wid guess and say....probably not.

Steve's that way too - with the whole "Never Apologize for anything" stance.

But Phee might (care)...or, maybe even some others.

I care. And I've failed in this department as well.

1. No one should ever "feel sorry" for the way they feel. That's a christian dogma. I feel compassion for you for not being able to understand that.

2. I had nothing to do with this "conversation". You really can't just drop it and move on?

Whatever happened to "turn the other cheek"? :laughing

So is that a yes you do Phee, or a no not really but others could take it that way?

I actually am not sure. Im out of the loop on any "anti-christian" posts by you recently. And all im really up on is the very recent past. Somehow i think its great that you would ask such a question though.

Was just sort of giving an few thoughts on why you might think your not "bashing" something when , viewed from a different perspective it could be seen that way.

your reading wayyyyyyyy too much into this.

My suggestion of having any remorse (if ever) on this particular subject matter, which is interaction with Christians whilst on DGN threads, was meant to communicate something:

that for some reason - the question was asked, therefore to someone within DGN - it matters - and I for one - am glad that it does - and my repsonses therefore are intended to be placed within that format. I am of the beleif that it should matter, and I am of the understanding that to some of you, it just wont. That's really it, pretty simple.

I used you for a reference point yes, but not everything is about YOU dude. There's nothing to drop.

If you use me as reference point, I hate to break it to you...it is about me.

Most everyone is trying to do a good job of being clam and even handed. Is everyone going to be perfect at it? No.

You know how to play nice. Do it. Change your own behavior. Its up to you to get irritated and then post, no one "makes" you do it. Having said that its a collective responsiblity not any single persons. We dont want to see these back and forth personal arguments over and over again.

If you have a point to make, make it, calmly with a minimum of abrasive language (hopefully none, but thats impossible unfortunately)

If theres no flame to the fire the argument doesnt continue. Relax already.

Christians also have commandments against murder and theft. Since we're going to be so anti-Christian, because Christians are clearly wrong about EVERYTHING, let's get into a knife fight. The loser dies and the winner steals his wallet.

I think you'll survive. its not meant to jack you, and I've used many people in here (including hey - ME) as reference points. Man if we all took issue what an ugly world this could be.....

Its cool, man. I was trying to be nice...and try to avoid anything that would start something between us, but I see that's not going to work.

I'm going to continue to bash dogmas. Period.

If you're offended by this, I think you'll survive (though I hope the dogmas do not).

Dunno. From the sidelines, it appears that Steven is taking this a LOT less personally than you are.

And I was kidding about the knife fight. Although, bare hands, that would be cool. And I wouldn't hurt you too badly- I promise, you'd be walking again within a week.

....I'm actually becoming amazed at the NUMEROUS assumptions and threadjacking attempts flying about the room, but your right on the mark Brass, I'm not bent at all.
