Reasons Why I Hate Drunk People, Item #347 On My List.

Recommended Posts

Because they f*** with my van when I'm in between deliveries.

I just got off the phone with my next stop, check my rear-view mirror, and take notice of the bicycle in my middle seat. Not mine, not anyone else's I know. It was the broken down one that was sitting next to the dumpster about 15 feet away. They didn't even put the stuff that fell out when they opened the door back inside. I may have run over my R.E.M. vinyl album because I didn't notice it was on the ground.

Is there some reason the drunk people always mess with my vehicle and noone else's? I'm always the one who ends up having to remove a sandwich that somebody stuffed in between my side-view mirror and my window, or shelling out $150 to replace a delivery sign because somebody ripped it right off the cable that was securing it on the top of my van (scratched the paint on the roof because they didn't know WTF they were doing).

Anybody else have a job that forces you to deal with idiots like these?

Jon drives a big company van for Detroit Door & Hardware.

His "territory" ranges anywhere from Lansing to Port Huron to Bad Axe to Toledo, Ohio and everywhere in between.

He and the rest of the service techs had to install thise hockey-puck like locks on all their doors because they were being broken into while on the job so much, they were all losing tools like crazy.

Especially in Detroit. Before the hocky puck locks, they'd park at a location, go in to fix the door, and return to a destroyed door lock & thousands of dollars in missing tools & parts.

Jon's been lucky so far. But one of the guys just had his entire tool bag stolen. They have to provide their own tools, so the guy was really hurtin'.

yikes.

Is there enough time between deliveries to lock your van up so at least they would have to break in to get inside? Maybe it would slow them down or even stop them.

Not during the bar rush. I have to bust @$$ just so I don't get buried with more deliveries, and I'm one of our fastest drivers.

I've also had someone ask me to give them a ride home on a delivery, a mile out of our delivery range the wrong way. When I said no and proceded to back out, they opened the door to beg me, offering to pay me $20. Mind you, MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING when they opened the door.

I also get people that will order food and not answer the door because they passed out in the time it took me to get there. I could go on, and on, and on some more with all the stupid stuff I've had people pull on me.
