Disney and Nick in particular known for this. The entertainment industry is so competitive its fairly easy for them to turn people down that aren't quite 'perfect'. Interesting in Gaz's case, for some reason i assumed that Gaz/Zim/Gir were all done by the same person. Probably stemming from my comic-reading "writer/artist/creator" thinking. Zim now does Billy and Billy's dad on The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I also had no idea that Jhonen Vasquez did the voice for the house computer.
