And like I just said, of course they don't have direct influence on the laws, but they DO have influence on the voters.

thats how i saw it.

steven i think your missing the point, this isnt about wether or not he divorced wife number one before he got with angie or the kids or families or anything this is simply about now and him not wanting to go official for a cause. while i think its shitty that he didnt wait or try to heal things with her before going onto number 2 i dont see how it has any relavance to this.

How does that make them "childish?" A lot of people CHOOSE to never get married. They're just making a statement relevant to it.

It is childish in the way that there are more important things to protest about.

Let me begin -

Terrorists

Poverty

Global warming

That is just three things that are far more important than whether or not everyone has a right to get married.

If celebrities want to make a difference I say pick an issue like oh I dunno - saving the innocent lives that these suicide bombers are killing.

But what do I know about important issues?

I just shot mountain dew through my nose. No, seriously.

You can't protest terrorism. You CAN influence the administration of a first world country that is SUPPOSEDLY a beacon of freedom to the world to live up to its bill of rights. You know. Theoretically.

And enforcing civil rights or protecting them in the form of amendments... how much would that really take in the way of resources? I don't know about you, but I'm kinda glad about several of our constitutional amendments that maybe weren't as important as other goings on at the time.

so, people in here are upset because they didn't choose the "right"issue to be vocal about!? to me, that seems a bit childish. (not specifically you, der nister) someone who's in the public eye has a far easier time promoting an issue they find important than a regular joe does, and why not gay marriage rights? i haven't seena quote, but i'm guessing his statement was in response to the question of when they'll be getting married. (see the similarites!? their marriage, *everyone's* marriage!?)i can't even think of a question they could have been asked that would seguay into "suicide bombers"... besides, people have a right to support whatever they wish, so who are we to condemn their choices in that!?

i think, even *if* it was a copout on his part, it's a nice gesture, and a good way to bring the topic back to the forefront. to me, gay marriage shouldn't even be an issue, it should be a given - you're in love, you can get married...

Hey thanks.

Although you did not understand me I will say it plainly - there are more important things to worry about in this world at this time than whom can or can't get married. Steven made a great point when he said that if Brad gave up his millions it would be a better gesture than this.

This is just another way for a celebrity to get their face and name in the publics eye. It's a total joke is how I see it. Kinda reminds me of all the celebs that either come out or say they were abused or junkies in order to get attention -- after their careers go down the toilet. Pure rubbish.

First, refer to Torn's post. He's smarter than me, he thought of something more relevant.

Secondly.. Should I just start assuming that all your posts are just you looking for attention, and that you don't really care about influencing anyone's opinion or making life better for anyone else?

It would suck to be painted with that broad a brush- but that's what you're saying about Mr. Pitt.

I know this is what you mean. I do get it.

I just dont want Brangelina being the voice for the appropriate dfinition and living out of the marital covenent. Cant really say it any plainer than that.

actually I feel as if Mr Pitt is the one making the broad brushtrokes....remember he has "the right brush"...and old farts like me who actually have been successful in this regard apparentlyave the worng brush.

this is what I hate about Pop culture Brass. the lack of depth that we are so easily influenced by.

What if a gay man marries a lesbian woman? Is that cool with republican Jesus?

why does this always have to happen? all this does is incite a conflict by inserting a scenario that does not exist (there is no republican Jesus) - this is more than a jack - it's the beginning of a flame thread.

About 18 years ago, my gay friend, Jim, married a lesbian woman. She married him because he was/is an awesome stylist. He married her for the cheap flights and frequent flyer miles. They married each other for insurance purposes. Now, you can get insurance if you're a gay couple. You could NOT back then. However, they were always friends. To them, it just made perfect sense.
