Two Companion 18-year Old Cats Need Home

Recommended Posts

Here's the copy of the two e-mails I got from this person. She's trying to rescue them from her deadbeat son-in-law.

I can't add to my brood, and at 18 years old, they'd probably be too traumatized by the experience anyway. But if you or someone you knows might want them, I am willing to act as a go-between for a day or two.

Thanks!

These cats have been together for all of their 18 years. Now the family is unwilling to continue shutting them up for long periods in a small bathroom while they work. We would like to see them live out their days in a home with someone around most of the time. They are lovable, soft, cuddly. Although they do well with the 2 small children in their home, they would probably be better with a mature, retired person or couple. They cannot be separated at this age.

They are altered males and declawed, fully litter trained and have never been outdoors except for transport. All of their equipment come with them. Their names are "Bottles" and "Patches". Bottles is a tabby-striped and Patches is white with black patches.

Originally bought by twin brothers who are now both married with families and on the go, so no one is around to give them the attention they deserve. One twin has had them for the last 7 years but now keeps them confined in a small bathroom all day. They are healthy and to put them to sleep would be a shame.

Her response to my inquiry:

I don't think either my daughter nor I could put them to sleep as long as they are healthy but we don't know what else to do. Their owner, my son-in-law would just as soon put them to sleep rather than deal with cat litter and such. My daughter and I got him to try putting them in the bathroom instead of to sleep, but now he just told us whatever we do he doesn't care. With two little ones my daughter can't deal with them and it isn't fair that they be shut up all day and all weekend while the family is at their lakehouse. This was my attempt to help relieve my daughter of some of what is causing her to have breakdowns, now that she is back to teaching. My 3 year old granddaughter would rather wet herself than use the downstairs bathroom when it smells of unattended cat litter. This is causing some more stress.

Anything you can do to help is appreciated. They are loving cats, but I go to Florida every winter so I can't take them. We are at our wits' end.
