The Over All Messages That You Get From Movies...

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about some beloved movies that have come out over the years... and I started compiling a list of what the message of these movies seemed to be... feel free to add.

Titanic - You don't need acting or originallity to make the highest grossing movie ever.

Powder - No matter how you look, or how special you are... if you are a good person, you will get to run out into a field and explode.

Forest Gump - If your stupid but good, you can be rich.

Donny Darko - Some people are too young and stupid to appreciate David Lynch.

Pretty Woman - If you are a whore... a really pretty whore, with a good heart, a rich guy will take care of you.

The Matrix Trilogy - We are sooooooo coooool!

Virtually The Entire American Horror Movie Industry Lately - Please don't see "The Descent" or "Audition" or any other non American produced horror movie, because it will make our PG-13/WB watered down, sucky ass shit seem even more pathetic then it already is.

Dungeons and Dragons - You suck!!! You actually watched this movie.

Robin Hood (Kevin Costner) - Sherwood Forest is in California Damnit!

Ahh... that's better

Every Animated Disney Movie Ever Made: Don't judge a book by its cover, because not everything is what it seems on the outside and true beauty lies within.

But if the hideously disfigured, mutated, ugly, or poor lead character doesn't transform into a rich attractive human with his or her correct compliment of limbs by the end of the movie, you should probably marry one of the ancillary characters instead.

I have always told my kids.....I hate disney movies. They make it look like all a girl should want is to find some guy (like that is the answer to all her problems) fall in love, and get married.

But it is a christain organization which pushes christian values that promote breeding that is thought to help the economy.

Why not a movie about a girl finding her dreams in a carreer? About being successful and satisified with travel and being on her own or something?

That would be a refreshing change.

And have you noticed that in a more general sense in movies... nearly 100% of the time... if an "ugly" person does end up with a "pretty" person, it is an "ugly" man and a "pretty" girl? (Shrek, Beauty and the Beast, Mask, all come to mind)

I have only once seen an "ugly" woman hook up with a "pretty" man... and Shallow Hal doesn't count either... sorry... she was Paltrow most of the movie.

This perpetuates a lot of cultural stereotypes for the ladies in a really bad way...

Granted the stereotype does seem to reflect how my life turned out... but that is besides the point!

Drugs are cool, Promiscuos Sex is cool, if you don't get laid by the time you are out of highschool you are doomed to an eternity of no sex, fighting is cool, guns are cool, if you are the nerd - you will be found cool, Women and shit but hoes and trix, the world is ending, and you must wear brand name clothes to be cool...to name a few....

The Crow: You don't need a plot or dramatic tension if depressed teen angst kids will watch your movie...

LOL oh cmon phee, it had a plot, but it would of been better if the main character didn't die and could finish the movie..... lol

I don't think I've ever seen an entire Disney movie, except Snow White which gave me horrible nightmares for years. When I was a cub my mom wouldn't take us to Disney films 'cos she said they were racist. Then by the time I was grown they had settled into the lame self-contradictory formula mentioned above... and even more into taking great stories and watering them down beyond recognition. If I were a descendant of Andersen or Hugo I'd dedicate my life to calling in bomb threats to mouse corporate HQ on a daily basis. The sad thing is, altho I've never sat thru any of them, they are so culturally ubiquitous that I know all the storylines & key scenes anyway.

And HH I agree 100%... if there's anything that annoys me more than the way Disney fucks up good stories it's their virulent anti-feminism... the whole "Disney Princess" thing sickens me. Not one of those characters is a role model I'd want for any girl... it's really sad when you do nothing in your own damn movie but sit around being pretty & loveable & waiting for someone to rescue you.
