Get an indoor bike or treadmill, or a boyfriend. Sex burns a shit load of calleries (not that you should just for that bennifit).

If you do go with a gym, stay away from Golds. Not sure if it was with all of them but there was a steroid problem at the one up here (I don't work out, heard from a friend who went).

Thats bs. Any gym you go into your gonna run into ppl on roids, it comes with the territory.

Go to a Curves or lifestyles for women. I hear from alot of women they prefer that to a same sex gym so they don't get oogled at. But I suggest you go to a few different gyms, try it for a day and then make your decision. Once you see what they have to offer, then you can make your choice.

If coed gyms aren't your thing, go to the places that Al pointed out. If you don't mind working out around men, Gold's is fine. Stay away from any Bally's clubs (if you have them out there). They're such vultures. I know, because I worked for them. Don't wear makeup or restrictive workout gear to the gym. It looks cheesy, gets you unwanted attention, and makes it genuinely uncomfortable to work out. Steroids are EVERYWHERE. It's almost unavoidable, despite the sheer stupidity of taking them for muscular gain. I'm sure that there's more, but the cophee needs to kick in.

I JUST joined fitness USA last week.

You can opt to have a trainer or not.

I chose to have one, but I might opt out cause she kisked my AZZ Friday...just now starting to feel like I can walk again!....

but, you have access to all of the equipment, and hot tubs and stuff....

they have Guys/Gals nites...and then I think they have both on the inbetween days....

They have a health bar too...

So far I like it....

I can bring a free buddy 3 times if you would like to join me!! But you have to come to the one in Royal Oak - they have limited the free buddy thing to that location....

But,...the membership is not limited to one location, so I think that is cool.

My best friend just started at Fitness USA last week, too! The one in Royal Oak, no less. :D But she loves it so far, especially because of the girls only nights, since it makes her feel more comfortable. I think she's taking advantage of the personal trainer for now, but eventually she says she wants to go it alone. I'm thinking of joining there myself.

I go to Lifetime fitness - not cheap, bu if you have little ones it is SO SO worth it. I spend less money entertaining him at things like chuckEcheese and paying babysitters. And he goes to the gym with me, learning a more healthy lifestyle (he begs to go there these days).

Others:

There is a new gym opening in canton that is offering $15.95/month memberships.

Powerhouse Gyms are inexpensive these days. Coed is not as uncomfortable for me as I had expected. You go there with a goal of getting fit and healthy and dress for that purpose and you should have no problem.

I have heard that alot of the hype behind curves is dying down. I understand that it is appointment based and the times are restrictive. That wouldn't work for me. Maybe you, but not me.

I love coed gyms. Heh. I'm just as uncomfortable working out with other women as I am working out with men, and there are some super hotties at my gym.

I went to a curves-clone a few times, and it wasn't too expensive and it wasn't appointment based, but you didn't have the flexibility you do with a "real" gym. Some days I want to destroy myself, like hit my core really hard, and then take 3 days off and just work the legs and arms, or whatever, but in Curves it's a full-body circuit or nothing. I'm glad I didn't end up joining...

I have a membership to Fitness USA. It's a nice place. 3 days a week is for women only, 3 days for men. Different sites rotate the days so between say Taylor and Lincoln Park, you could go 6 days in a row. They do have a small coed setup in the front now but it doesn't have windows towards the main gym so there is still privacy. Powerhouse in Lincoln Park usually has a monthly rate that is inexpensive. I am going to start going back, just need to replace my damaged membership card. But am also checking into going to powerhouse. Let me know if you choose them, if I decide to go there we can share a ride if you would be interested. I wish I had the room, I have 2 nice weight benches. I want to set one up and start weight training again.
