Doctor Who

Recommended Posts

I'll admit that I had some fascination with Doc Who. But isn't it sort of offensive, because he always has a female sidekick who has to have everything explained to her, and usually, it's some hot chick, with you know, like I meant to say, little cognizant skills of her own? And it's really through the doctor's directing these 'hopeless' women that the audience gains the arguments for the intricacies of the plots of each of the episodes--so in a way, those who watch the show are talked to as if they are, you know, 'dumb blondes'. In other words, Women are objects and so are the audience.

Look, if I didn't care about Doctor Who, I would have never spent so much time thinking about all this. But I can't help thinking that the way the show has been set up is wrong.

The next Doctor Who should be a woman. And her sidekick should be a really dumb and tall, muscular man.

(Although, I think it's important that even a female Doctor Who have really nice tits and a magnificent ass. -I won't have a woman parading across my television screen with any other type of body.)

I do happen to agree with you on many accounts, Paul. I've thought about it a lot. the Doctor has had male sidekicks who have been ditzes too... although not nearly as often.

The big part that I find acceptable about it is that usually his sidekicks are human, or at least humanoids who aren't time lords. I think the fact that they haven't been exposed to the "time lord mentality or lifestyle" excuses the fact that they need to have everything explained.

I do think that when Romana was on the show, she was disrespected. Her first incarnation (during the key to time series) was just foolish. Her second was smart as a whip though, and made up for it. And she was hot, too.

Also, I feel the whole situation with your feelings regarding the audience attitude is justified in part for the same reasons. They want the audience to feel as included as possible. They want them to think they understand. That's what keeps the common person interested in a series in the long run - personal feelings that make them like the show/characters. Involvement, even in a purely spectator related role. Doctor Who isn't meant to be a high science show, it's more about adventure and excitement.

Furthermore.... the Doctor is endlessly patient with his sidekicks... at least, as the show developed, he was.

The first doctor was kind of an ass, but it was part of his ancient charm.

Reminds me of you, actually, you chauvinist pig oxymoron. :whistling

And Chris... thank you for giving me some hope.

Patsy (Joanna Lumley) made a great doctor in "The Curse of Fatal Death" so there was a female doctor once, even if she doesn't really count.

However "All the actors playing the Doctor in the special had been previously rumoured to have been up for the regular role at some point or another, including Lumley. Atkinson was one of many actors considered for the role of the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 Doctor Who television movie." Though it says "actors" which kind of leaves her out being an "actress".

But I saw previews on Sci-Fi chan for the new season and OMG CYBERMEN! My second favorite Doctor Who villian next to the Daleks.

Also the new doctor is a bit of a tool. But in 10 years the 18th doctor will probably be that kid who played Harry Potter so I shouldn't complain.

I was (sort of) joking when I made the comments about perfect breasts and things, but I do think it's long over due that we have a female Doctor Who. As if it really means anything in the grand scheme of things, as if in the end, humanity will be able to claim at least that, that we did after all finally have a female as Doctor Who and so it's not really all been a waste of time...this existance we have where we watch television shows about people who travel through time in a police call box and fight hatefull little robots who shoot lasers. Oh, and let's not forget the Cybermen. But why not have a female Doctor Who? It's only being fair.

Because the Dr. is male. The different Dr.s are just incarnations of the same (sorta) entity that is The Dr.

Indeed... they explained that whenever the Dr. becomes too damaged, he can rebirth himself so to speak... while he has the same memories and knowledge, but a slightly altered personallity.

All of his fellow "Time Lords" are said to have this ability... (but according to the ninth Doctor, they are all dead due to a war with the Daleks "The Last Great Time War"

I'm sorry man, I was disappointed by that showdown.

It did not go at all the way I expected it, to my chagrin.

And Chris Eccleston may be an arrogant prick, but he brought a lot of depth to the Doctor's character, with the new direction they've decided to go. And that kicks ass; the Doctor really needed it, for the launch.

But I think David Tennant is just more fun.

Gaahhhhh... too much information all at once!

Yes... there were female time lords, so in essence there were female Doctors... but you don't get to experience them in tv land. Then they all died. boo-hoo.

Yes, there were male sidekicks. I knew I was right, I just couldn't think of who any of them were, because I'm just now being able to really dig back into my doctor who psyche bin.

Tits are great.

Daleks are almost as great as tits, but cooler than cybermen.

I'm sure there's a math equation to cover all that information, but I'm not geeky enough to know it.

Did I miss anything?

Rapid Burst of Pertwee

ROFLMAO

aaaaaahhhhhhhh.....

Well, I'm a bad who fanatic. I missed the show friday. I set my tv to it earlier in the evening, but didn't have it on when the crucial time came, twice.

Dammit... now it'll be months before I get the chance to see it.

Guess I'll just have to start next week.

Why don't we have a smiley who bangs his head against the wall?
