BrassFusion
This scares the heck out of me. If Bush re-elects himself somehow in '08, someone needs to stage a coup. How scary and ironic that it's unsafe to get into specifics about that. I'm a little surprised there haven't been any high-profile assassinations thus far. Shade Everdark
Quite honestly, I have little hope left. If the elections don't change SOMETHING this November, it's going to be all gone. Edited to add: I won't ever forgive Stabenow for voting for that rough beast, that appears to have already slouched to Bethlehem.
phee
Quite honestly, I have little hope left. If the elections don't change SOMETHING this November, it's going to be all gone. Usually.... the politicians in office seem to have little to no effect on me personally... but now, it has to change!!!
Der Nister
Since Congress recently handed Bush the power to identify American citizens as "unlawful enemy combatants" and detain them indefinitely without charge, it's worth examining the administration's record of prisoner abuse as well as the building of stateside detention centers. Bush = Joseph Stalin.
Vampyro
I know things look fairly gloom but there Is hope. Nothing lasts forever, and rest assured for what each and everyone of you feel (NOT wanting bush anymore) , almost everyone else feels the same way. I have a feeling this will be one of the outcomes for the elections.... Given the votes aren't rigged, Democrats will win by a land slide, I feel the democratic party for executive office will win by around 80%. And it won't stop there, the house and senate will finally balance out and the republicans in already will be voted out as well. Given the votes ARE rigged (like the last two elections) bush will try another war, this time with iran. I have sneaking suspicions that this war on iran could be as early as the end of this october. Although the american public will raise the bullshit flag on republicans taking office, AND the war, they'll try anyway. But there's a small detail few forget, Iran and China are good business buddies. And the country we america owes the most dept to for our meaningless crusade is china... We mess with iran, it is very likely china will call us on our dept. This country's future is very uncertain, but if republicans getting re-elected doesn't start a rebelion, a draft (wich WILL happen sometime because our military is stretched thin all over the world, they need more troops) then it will have dramatic effect on everyone's life, no matter who you are, and that will get the american public to finally do something about it. The sad truth is, most of american society is just too damn lazy to make the government stop this silly shit.

Troy Spiral (13)
It wont be possible for any government to get away with things that they were able to in the past. Lincoln did some things that basically would have been an automatic impeachment for any modern president. Same can be said for many of our very well-respected founding father types. No doubt elections can be "unfairly influenced" but blatantly "rigging" them is not possible by any historical measure. And we survived. Try not to overblow the impact of events. Many things are concerning, but they aren't doomsday type issues. We in the US have it gooooooooood, even when its really bad. Being a U.S. citizen during the depression with the terribly bad civil rights that existed at the time and no money, was better than living in the congo even at its highest point in economic development. People are literally killing or dying to get into the U.S. try to view things with this perspective.
