AntiHero
that's awesome and it sucks at the same time. Obviously for the military applications of such a thing. I don't remember who did it, but recently a science team overseas managed to actually teleport a few molecules. Teleport. Cloaking Devices, Teleporters. We are one step closer to the technology or Star Trek, and the horror of Doom when we get the teleporters on line.

If you start a new thread with a link to any proof of the successful physical teleportation of any TANGIBLE OBJECTS, I'll give you a really cheap medal I'll have made myself. Or a button from the dollar store that says "Numba 1 Superstar!" or something.
cptdeath
my phone ring is the star treck music. the concept was first admired by our own military after it was seen in the movie predator. witch is also responsable for their developmeant of thermal imiging and night vision wich has come a long way since it was first researched and is now and will continue to be a part of our military. i saw a ship on the local news that looked like the sky you couldv'e walked right up to it an bump into it without seeing it. it was fixed with those bunker bombs made from the barrels of retired battle ship guns. if you told me it didn't cloak i would'nt believe you. i think we have had cloaking for like five years now honestly. except it only works on vehichles. they had the stealth bomber for 11 years before it was public knowledge. i bet we got satelites that look like space junk but will fire a beam like independence day. Or a button from the dollar store that says "Numba 1 Superstar!" or something. i read an article about the same topic (and no, i don't have the link any more) - they did succeed in teleporting something on the scale of molecules or smaller. they've also made particles travel "backwards" in time, for that matter... i'll see if i can find a link somewhere... torn asunder
teleportation... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3811785.stm http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/te...ion_010926.html faster than light / time-travel http://www.livescience.com/technology/0605...t_backward.html "We sent a pulse through an optical fiber, and before its peak even entered the fiber, it was exiting the other end. Through experiments we were able to see that the pulse inside the fiber was actually moving backward, linking the input and output pulses." Troy Spiral (13)
Its more of a effect transfer than actual , what your layman would consider true teleportation. Not to get too crazy but generally this phenomenon is assumed to be addtional proof for multiple dimensions. The basic concept behind it has been observed for at least 60 years or so (probably longer) just to lazy to look it up at the moment. Even taken to its conclusion nothing is actually teleporting its just following a path via a dimension we cannot directly observe. If multiple dimentions dont exist, "teleportation" is impossible goes the current thinking. Similarly the speed of light is still considered a constant that cannot be exceeded "in reality" , but due to multi-dimentional effects it will be observed to seemingly break this speed limit. (thats what "warping" does, it "warps" the normal 4 dimentional universe so that "natural laws" can be broken) We have had "slow cloaking" since the dawn of time, that is being able to mask the presence of a given thing in one way or another... fast cloaking of one sort or another is an eventuality. I'd assume that anti-cloaking will develop to counteract it though. The book "The Physics of Star Trek" does a good job of covering the issues involved in a lot of these things. Its a bit old now (10 years?) but the basic science is the same now as it was when the book came out. It really reads more like a science book than anything to do with star trek, just as a cute jumping off point to discuss exotic physics ideas. Both subjects are very interesting and you can do PhD level research on either.

cptdeath
along with the book called the nocturnican i now must also aquire the physics of star trek.
BrassFusion
Weelll, light and atomic properties aren't so tangible. It looks like those experiments were only concerning superfast transfer of information, which IS groovy, but it's not putting molecules in one end of a tube and having them appear out the other side. Like Mike TeeVee across Wonkavision.
