kellygrrrrrl
Well, Mr. Doctor gave me Chantix. It is a quitting smoking aid. Basically it keeps the Nictonie receptors in the brain from recieving the nicotine. It disables the "pleasure / reward" center in the brain that keeps one addicted for life. So Hell, I thought...why not? Basically you start taking the pills 7 days prior to the quit date. I continue to smoke for one more week.... If you smoke during the program...you body will not accept the nicotine...basically the nicotine is not received in the brain receptors! (rolling eyes at myself) You have to build it up in the system, and by the time day 8 comes, and you stop cold, you shouldn't have the typical withdrawal symptoms.....which was MY biggest problem....For me, I couldn't handle the roller coaster anxiety attacks I was getting even 4 5 6 weeks into quitting....and I'd cave. I'd get stressed, have the crazy anxiety feeling in the pit of my stomach....and cave. This is a 2 month program. I paid $60 bucks for it....my coverage covered $90 of it, so I guess I got off easy??? Heh...yah. So...after paying $60 bucks for this....it better damn well work! I am destined to be a non-smoker damnit. I WILL DO THIS! I just REALLY REALLY hope it helps with the anxiety thing. Thats all...if it were not for that, I would've stayed quit.... You ever get butterflies int he stomach? Try quitting smoking...you will have that day and nite. for weeks.... So here goes nothing! Down the hatch! kellygrrrrrl
Alright, so, I'm on day 5 of taking the med. I am up now taking two a day...then Friday,....I quit. They say you are suppose to lose interest in smoking. I am starting to feel that!! Miraculously! It's not pleasant though. I smoke, and feel nauseated.....and I feel somewhat already satisfied. Hard to explain. As far as side effects, I do feel the nausea. Its not too bad though...I expected worse. They say you will have weird dreams, haven't expirienced that yet?? Although I usually don't remember my dreams. I do have a weird taste in my mouth...they say that some people will have that.. Can't say I've ever said my spit has a flavor! But it does now!
