Gaf The Horse With Tears
I think the Republicans are going to keep control of the Senate and loose control of the House but only by a narrow margin. Which translates into the Democrats still not getting all the power they want to get. What do you think?

Which means things will still get worse the way we are used to for the next two years... as opposed to the all new crap that the Democrats may or may not bring as far as promblems... BrassFusion
I predict that Granholm will retain control over Michigan and more people will search out of state for employment. The only way employment would be any better under devos would be from higher economic confidence as a result of a temporary placebo effect. but i agree... he won't win. I am curious to see what happens in the state house and senate though, since those have been under Republican control for the last 20 years. I can't really predict what will happen there. Fierce Critter
I'm going to predict that it's not in my power to predict anything about this. With the possible exception... I'm going to predict that no matter who gets voted into any and all positions, people are going to be unhappy with the outcome and what transpires over the next few years. I'm going to predict that no matter who gets voted into any and all positions, people are going to be unhappy with the outcome and what transpires over the next few years. Most people are going to be unhappy with some of the outcomes, but overall, the majority of people are going to be content with a majority of the outcomes. And don't be so pessimistic! For good things to happen, first, you need to BELIEVE they can happen!
HipsterDufus
I think everyone got oversaturated with election BS this year. It was pretty intense. Just remember folks, it's all over tomorrow. You can take a deep breath, sit down in your comfy chair, and sip on some nice whisky; the political advertisements will be over. BrassFusion
Take the Driver's Responsibility Act for a PRIME example. Granholm pushed it through as a law without a popular vote. The law was written to specifically state that it cannot be contested in ANY court. So now, anyone that cannot afford a good lawyer MUST pay the state ADDITIONAL money on TOP of the fines they have to pay for the ticket itself. Where is the money SUPPOSED to be going? Education. Where is the money really going? Who knows! She signed it into law after a series of reviews and votes from our reps in Lansing. That's the way the system works. That hardly seems like "pushing." The school systems are getting worse and this "No child left behind crap" is making kids dumber. If a child that does not speak Arabic, but lives in Dearborn wants to go to school they must seek private schooling as the public schooling is going to teach in Arabic before they teach classes in English. WTF?! Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure. That sounds like grade-A truth right there. You even included a link to an informational website that supports your claim. Oh wait. BrassFusion
1) Lobying reviews and votes in Lansing does not reflect the population's view. It's a lot easier to get the votes of a group of people in Lansing than it is to get the entire state behind something. 2) I don't need to link to an informational website. I work with 3 guys who live in Dearborn. 1. She didn't author the law. It sucks, and it costs people too much money, but really, has it affected her take-home pay? Does it irrevocably put her on the side of evil the likes of Republicans? Short answer- NO. 2. That's SO super convincing. I bet they're not xenophobic at all. Hellion
I predict that Granholm will retain control over Michigan and more people will search out of state for employment. good point, mayby the entire population will move out of this crappy state. BrassFusion
I'm sure it did increase her take-home pay. Most people don't read the letter of the law to an extent to find out though. Secondly, why do the Republicans have to be "on the side of evil". Please keep your derogatory remarks out of it. While I find the comment funny, other Republicans like myself may not.Oddly enough, they're not. But they do have friends and relatives in the school system, they are products of the school system. I've heard it straight from their mouths "Don't move to Dearborn if you're planning on having kids. Unless you plan on sending them to private school or have them learn Arabic in Elementary School." I didn't even know you consider yourself to be on the dark side. Regardless. I'm sure one of the reasons I'm as proficient as I am in English is because we had starter courses in other languages EARLY. Second grade. We learned some German, some Chinese, and some Spanish. Learning how to build sentences in other languages reinforces the rules you use in your own. And with Dearborn's Arabic-heavy population, it seems like a logical choice for a second language class for students who are immersed in English through all their relationships, their families, and the media. Edit: And it's an awesome way to curb discrimination. We need shit like that about now.

AntiHero
"I know a little later this year you're going to have one of those swell presidential elections that you like so much. You'll enjoy yourselves I'm sure that it'll be a lot of fun, I'm sure as soon as the election is over your country will improve immediately. As for me I'll be at home on that day, doing essentially the same thing as you, the only difference is when I get finished masturbating; I'm going to have a little something to show for it." creatureofthenyte
I would like to vote for a canidate that doesnt rely on stupid attack ads. They are so fuckin juvenile. "he said this! and he did this and this and this! waa waa waa!" "She said that and that and that and did that and that and that!" Just like two little kids fightin over a toy. I dunno what the tv is like out there right now, but over here in CT, there are about 648960596845 ads on every other second.
BrassFusion
Whoah there killer. You're not understanding what is happening in those schools. They're not teaching English as a PRIMARY language. They are teaching it as a SECONDARY language. That's not true, and nothing that was in that link supported the idea that they're changing the class formats to Arabic. You're just paranoid, believe me. That said, done with it in this thread, Ben. Not gonna start a new one about why American schools AREN'T investing in Arabic texts for all their classes because it's just. not. true.
